That's just nonsense and I don't think that any Madrid fan will agree with you even.

He has a role to fill in Mourinho's system, and he does that very well. But that doesn't mean that he is limited to that role, far from it. See his performances for Germany.

NOAH is on an WINDUP, its not every day that i give him such an opportunity

normally i never talk bad about germans, though i meant in not negative, because khedira has many other strengths, not only running during a whole game Wink

I'm not on a wind up. I'm calling it as I see it. I also accept that my perception of a player may be proven wrong over time.

Put simply, if Bale is truly a one trick Facking ranner as you have said in the past, then I'm still waiting to see khedira's trick. Does what he needs to I ll give him that. But it ain't pretty

khedira is complete package of an central midfielder, he really can do everything

-attacking runs(he includes himself very good into the attack, you see it clearly when mourinho allows him to attack or not, its a big difference in his game)
    -tackle
    -defend
    -pass
-close down spaces threw intelligent runs

simply a modern version of makelele Wink

while bale, just look at his game, facking running down the line, compare his game to messi, müller, robben, its extreme one dimensional, sure he can make step overs to get past players, but other players make intelligent runs without the ball, or make a pass opponents wouldnt expect

Take off the (relatively ineffective) Villa, bring in a true #9 targetman who isn't totally inept as far as keeping the ball and passing is concerned (e.g. a Drogba type), try more long balls against the tired Real defence, be more direct in general, don't solely rely on Messi to provide the change of pace with his runs and create 'surprise' moments in your game.

I'm not saying that Barca should change their style or anything (why change a working formula after all), just have alternatives for certain situations, to have the ability to do something the opponent doesn't expect.

Not a great match but a great win! Love the effort put for by the players. Di Maria was immense. Ok yes he made some mistakes but to do all of that defensive work, run himself into the ground, and still have enough to put in that cross in the 102nd minute. Brilliant!

Of course the irony is that the goal came from a nice bit of build up play. Of course we won the ball high up the pitch but a nice combination between Di Maria and Marcelo, cross, header, goal! I wish we would do it more instead of all the hoofing! Oh well.

I didn't think we would win with the mentality we had on Saturday. But we didn't see anything like the first half or the extra time on Saturday. I know people will think I am overly dogmatic in my opposition to the trivote. Of course I don't like it but it's more about the mentality, the approach. Even Del Bosque won a CL using a five man back line but Saturday was so feeble. It was just like we were bending over asking for Barcelona to stick it up our ass. Today was different. The second half we were hanging on the ropes but I am quite happy with the first half and the extra time.

There may be hope for the CL! Biggrin

Also fair play to Ronaldo. I am as critical of him as anyone but he finally delivered when it matters. Not a great game from him mind you but that it was an excellent finish. This is what you expect from someone who cost 90m euro. Big goals in big games.

From Barcelona's standpoint, it's probably not the worst thing to be really challenged again. From the neutral standpoint, it's definitely a whole lot more interesting than having one team dominating every competition at least.

However, it needs to be said that the gap to the other La Liga teams is increasing, if anything. Spain could become a rich man's Scotland in the long run indeed. Hopefully that won't happen and other big clubs like Valencia or Atletico somehow manage to become title contenders again, but I don't think that's very likely.

Pierre Littbarski wrote:Assuming Barca are going to play the reserves at the weekend, the key thing in CL 1st leg could be that they have had 7 days rest instead of 4.

People will say its the same for both but I think Barca need more energy to play their game and will benefit more.

Barca will always find it difficult v Mourinho if his team scores 1st - as will any team - with more energy they can impose thir quick passing & pressing game and make sure that that is never the case.

Apart from the rest, the key factor in the CL first leg will be the absence of Carvalho.

Really annoyed yesterday but today I am alright. Madrid much better in the first half whereas I thought that we could have won it in the second half. After the last two games I think that we will continue to be favourites for the leagues but that knock out tournaments will depend heavily on the refs. Yesterday Madrid was allowed to break the rythm of the game by constant fouling in the first half so gaining the upper hand as we cant play these overly interrupted games. I dont know who will be the ref for the CL but if it is a scotsman then Madriz will win whereas an Italian will help us.

Iker mom and despite Cronaldos goal I still think Messi was much better. Worst was definitely Villa..

That's what disappointed me more than the ref's decisions...that our players got sucked into the physical stop-start game. They should have been calmer. They talked about moving the ball faster, but didn't do it.

In fact, I think the ref did well because he ignored all the diving and moaning from both sides (by also not giving too many soft yellows, which would just reinforce that behaviour) and you could see in the 2nd half the players stopped that nonsense because they were not getting anything out of it.

After the first match I thought it was clear that Mou was looking at the greater circumstance and yesterday proved that. We understood his tactics and formation better than the Saturday and Mou was also able to adjust the tactics, play Pepe in more of a floating wall role, etc.

The most important thing though was that at the start of Saturday's match, I think our players were still intimidated by Barca. In the CDR match, you could tell that we were no longer which is why the draw accomplished Mou's purpose for that match.

I must say, it was probably the best and most high quality game I have seen this year. A real classico. As a neutral, I really enjoyed watching this one.

Now I am really looking forward to the cl semi between these two... they are going to be a classic!!

His typical movement being his ability to burn past defences and still be able to pass, cross or shoot with accuracy? What an EINS trick pony!

Long term, he'll end up being a left back anyway - that is his natural position.

You were accussing Messi of being a one trick pony not so long ago. The major decisive factor appears to be whether they are German or not. You even admitted Khedira was a facking ranner until you realised he wasn't Tunisian (easy mistake to make), and now he has a complete all round game Laugh

The major difference was starting Özil, keeping the ball on the ground and committing more players to the attack once you won the ball and switched to attacking. This was even more obvious in the second half, once Real started to run out of steam, Özil was taken off and you went back to the same hoofball approach of the first match. As a consequence, Barcelona dominated the second half and could have easily won.

Mourinho got it right this time (first half), but it remains to be seen if Real Madrid can keep that very demanding style up over 90 and more minutes. Tactically, the first half was exactly how you have to play against Barcelona to beat them, not just neutralise them.

yeah. that's what the aesthetes don't get.

Nothing to do with aesthetics (never expect that from Mourinho teams anyway), but more about effectiveness, at least for me. If hoofball worked, I wouldn't have said anything. This is football, there are a lot of different styles, and all of them are valid as long as they work and you win.

I really enjoyed the game and we did very well in first half. We created chances and broke up their game. Pepe/Khedira in a more offensive role was smart and it worked well. A real shame that Pepe's header didn't go in because it was a great finish. Thought Barca came back strong in the second half but I don't understand why we sat back so much and didn't periodically press more just to break up things in midfield. There were few bad performers. Thought Ozil/Ronaldo did very well in the first half but fell out in the second. Otherwise everybody played a good game. Di Maria did a lot for the team and it was a superb cross for Ronaldo's great header. Clearly our MOTM.

Mourinho got the line up correct and we were drilled perfectly. Although I think the Adebayor sub was a mistake and he just played a poor game. Thought it was a mistake to take Ozil out and not put in Granero so we had somebody who had a creative spark because after that we were forced back too easily and we didn't take advantage on the counter attack so it didn't help us. Was surprised to see that we didn't sub any of the central midfielders in the second half because they looked tired and we were losing the midfield as a result. It was understandable that this would happen since they worked their asses of for the entire second half in the last game so I expected us to be without energy but Mourinho didn't react. I'm guessing that if we had Lassana on the bench that he would have been introduced. Thought Alonso was the right man to take out since he regressed as the game went on. I was surprised how well we did after the goal and we didn't panic or anything and we didn't have to suffer any exciting last minutes.

    Di Maria Ale

    Mourinho Ale

    Ronaldo cheers

Now I am really looking forward to the cl semi between these two... they are going to be a classic!!
I agree although the game lost some of its intensity the last part of the second half.
