The debate that i have been widely ridiculed for for the past few years. I want to know what people think now.

    Their stats this season.

    N'Zogbia - 9 goals, 7 assists
    Lennon - 3 goals, 3 assists

Is it still laughable to suggest that N'Zogbia is the better player? Bam

Lennon will be decent until he loses a step, but N'Zogbia will be around for a lot longer, he's a terrific footballer. The Zog is very clever in his approach to the game.

I think ol' Jinky has better stats than Lennon(less games too) but not as good as The Zog. Though he did have the bad injury..and he doesnt seem to get that many starts.

You'll notice noone has ever come up with a nice nickname for Lennon. He's obviously an awful person.

N'Zogbia takes more shots than Lennon and the Tottenham strikers couldn't finish. That's all I see.

N'Zogbia vs Lennon Empty Re: N'Zogbia vs Lennon

Post by Isco Benny Wed May 18, 2011 3:42 pm

Kimbo, you want an HONEST assessment?

Firstly, basing it purely on goals/assists, then Zog has been "better".

But then Lampard has scored and assisted more goals than Xavi this season (http://www.goal.com/en/news/2939/castrol-football-zone/2011/04/18/2446849/revealed-why-frank-lampard-is-ahead-of-xavi-in-the-castrol), and I don't see anyone trying to claim Frank is the better player.

So, putting into context: I have seen Lennon's contributions this season first hand, and I can tell you right now that his goal/assists stats show 2 things that have become clear:

    - his shooting isn't great. No one is arguing it is. But then he is a line-hugging wideman as opposed to the faux Winger/Centreforward the likes of Ronaldo and N'Zogbia have become

    - his crossing and general awareness in the last third has been first rate: he's set up countless "assists" which weren't finished. Just the other day against Man City for Modric who should have put us 1-0 up and forced City to play toe-to-toe with us (infact he was absolutely brilliant in that game and ripped Zabaletta a new arsehole), I can also think of at least 3 clear cut chances in just one game - away to Blackpool - where Pav should have scored, including a header from about 3 yards out which he somehow contrived to miss. Only showing how shite our strikers have been this season

Is he World Class? No, but he's a player I would not swap with anyone in the league, and I mean that. He is a proper team player - tracks back, tackles, and is excellent for us in taking the ball from defence into attack using his pace and agility.

As for N'Zogbi: I will admit he has done far better than I thought he would since moving from Newcastle. He looks a better "forward" than Lennon, his shooting is cleaner, he runs more lines down the centre of the pitch - something Lennon should do more of - and looks like a player far too good for Wigan.

But would I take him over Lennon at Spurs? Nope. Lennon is exciting, entertaining, even frustrating at times, but a player who will become a Spurs legend if he stays. And rightly so

Think Adam Johnson might be better than either though. Wonder where people place Walcott these days Whistle

    @Allez,

overrated? Really? How many England squads / teams has Lennon made in comparison to SWP and Walcott?

Walcott, who was taken to a World Cup in 2006, having played no senior games, and all because he was signed by Wenger / Arsenal.

Lennon is rated by Spurs fans because he's, well, erm, how do we say this - a very good player?

Your use of the term overrated here makes no sense. So stop talking arrant bullshit and put some ARBEIT into your posts, instead of resorting to lazy attempts like the above.

And yes, Johnson may well turn out to be better than both. We won't know until Mancini starts playing him regularly and see how he deals with suffering multiple injuries like Lennon has in his career

And yes, if you're going to cast aspersions on Spurs players then I have every right to argue them innit. Especially when I don't agree. Lennon is class in a Spurs shirt. I don't see you lying down and taking a satisfying bumming when people criticise Arsenal and German players. So you see, your no better than me, d'you hear me Rouges?! Are you hearing me?

I don't see how the legend that is the SVEN taking the living PISS by taking the 12-year-old Theo on a pleasant summer TRIP to the Vaterland is a very good argument for the latter's in fact being the overrated one. Walcott is a much better finisher than the gangsta. But I've spoken to a lot of Arsenal fans and most seem unconvinced of him as a winger. And rightly so from what I've seen. Personally, I don't think he's a bad player - have never been in the TS/Pierre/Saints camp on that one. But is or has he been overrated? Massively. One of the worst cases. If we're on the subject of Walcott, he could do worse than be played as a centreforward in the Chicharito role, just off the last defender's shoulder. Seems to me a better prospect than Bendtner as a future Arsenal striker.

So what do you say to that Rouges?! You Schweinhund!

Post by Allez les rouges Wed May 18, 2011 5:24 pm

Nope, he blows hot and cold (and like most has been utter shite in recent games). I don't see where else he fits in in a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 though; the left side à la Henry is not a realistic option and nor really is 4-4-2. But "winger" is the wrong terminology in my view anyway (I don't "like" them, to sum up my preferences with an absurd generalization) – he isn't the best option as sole striker in the vP role (Chamakh and Bendtner also have this problem) so fitting in as best he can is probably the best option at the moment, and it's maybe fair to see this season as having been a step in the right direction. I mean the German national system too has Müller/Podolski as different types on opposing sides (with Müller in a more flexible/freer role), which can work, despite the plentiful other options.

I think these questions/problems pose themselves for most teams that play a comparable kind of flexible 4-2-3-1.

I don't want to get into the whole "overrated" debate even if his potential as a "weapon" was always clear – it doesn't seem to me that he ever did enough to be hyped à la Rooney, but as you see fit. Seemed ultimately more a case of built up, then knocked down so far that he actually became underrated.

fair point, I truly don't have a preference and Liverpool are continually linked with N'Zogbia but unlike Lennon he's never played for a big club, he hasn't played in the Champions League and his only cap was 45 minutes in a friendly defeat to Norway. I wouldn't mind him if he's a cheap utility signing as cover on the wings and full back, but I haven't seen anything in him that suggests he could be a first team regular for a top side. I have similar views on our being linked with Ashley Young and that Jarvis chappy. Also he has a history of being disruptive. And he's black, and French.
