Nope, wasn't his fault - watch it again, instead of putting the ball into the stands or taking the ball into the corner, Benny Assoue Ekotto kicks the ball back upfield straight to a City player (not sure which now), who threads the ball almost immediately back to Balotelli with the backline and King pushed up and thus caught out of position.

IMO that was Benny's fault and something he's done on a few occasions where silly decision making has put the defence under unnecessary pressure.

I don't say this because I refuse to acknowledge King's faults - as he did give away the penalty (which I feel he had little choice doing though), but put simply if it had been Ledley on the ball, he would not have done what Benny did and we wouldn't have lost that game.

Besides, Bale and Defoe were more at fault for us losing that game when they were two on one and should have been 3-2, if you ask me.

If Assou Ekotto has done this on a few occasions, King should have anticipated it and thus not pushed up and get caught out of position Wink

I don't blame Defoe for the miss actually. Think he did all he could to get there, Bale just didn't quite time the pass right.

Since it's a bit quiet on here should we discuss team of the season, or is it too early?

    Mine:
    ----------------Cech----------------
    Coleman----Terry----Merte------Baines
    ----------------Gerrard------------
    -Hazard-------Yaya-------Lallana
    --------Suarez------Sturridge

manager: Moyes (had the biggest impact Wink)

wouldn't argue with most of that, certainly the front 6 is spot on.

I'd probably go with Shaw over Baines & Cahill over Terry 'cause he's less loathsome. not sure what other CBs have stood out. perhaps Lovren, but then it'd getting a bit too Southampton-friendly

GK perhaps Marshall or De Gea, though Cech's had good season too.

as there's a pretty big points division, how about team of the bottom half (well 10th downward)

    Marshall
    Bacuna-C.Davies-Tomkins-B.Davies
    Huddlestone-Jedinak-Delph
    A.Johnson-Bony-Snodgrass

real lack of attacking options - you can see why all these teams down there! could've gone with Benteke or Crouch over Bony, think all three have blown hot & cold.

Pretty easy this year really. Everyone's midfield and attack should be the same unless you're trying to be some hipster bellend.

    Defence I'd have

    De Gea

    Coleman
    Kos
    Terry

Also good options, but I think terry has to be in there based on his performances on the pitch (regardless what he might have done or be like off it Wink). I am not excluding players based on personal dislike as it makes you look stupid, like kimbo Wink.

Question  I included Suarez. I do think being a good defender in a team that's up against it is more impressive than being a good defender in a team that dominates games though.

Debuchy has been great, I'm quite sure that you wouldn't know about that though. Coleman has been good and has scored some goals, but that's not what I judge fullbacks on. I think there are a few even contenders in that position, I wouldn't be offended by someone picking Coleman or Ivanovic. Defensive players are the toughest ones to pick though as it is about consistency and their performances rarely make highlights shows. You only know how good they are by watching them week in week out, and none of us do that with teams that aren't our own, which means all of our teams are most likely wrong. So stop waving your circumcised pecker around as if you're an authority.  <Ale>

As for Barry I understand he has been integral for Everton who have had a very good season, and again this isn't a role you can judge by goals and assists.

I don't mind debuchy, although whether he has been better than coleman (or zabaleta) is debatable. I was talking about your personal dislike for another player, and in looking for any alternative you crowbarred oscar into a position he has not played in this season. Stinger shows you could have come up with a reasonable alternative, even if I don't agree with putting a player that has had half a good season.

Personally I don't understand anyone who puts oscar in.Yes he tracks back and gets stuck in, and mourinho prefers him to mata, but he's not a defensive midfielder or deep-lying maker and as a number 10 (the position he has been playing) he had a good start to the season, but he has been off-form for quite a while now. Ozil and silva have been better in my opinion.

Just because Oscar is next to Barry it doesn't mean I would play him as a DM, him and Toure are both pretty much box to box midfielders.

Mutch has had a great March  Very Happy , might even be a contender for player of the month. Pardew won manager of the month in nov 2013, might as well give him manager of the season for having one good month  <Ale>

It's your team, put whoever you want in it. Pretending your impartial when it comes to gerrard, that's the joke. One of Barry (steady), oscar (good first half of season), and now mutch (good march) in midfield before him is a joke, two of them is just being stupid Very Happy

I am not a fan of mertesacker, but credit where it is due, he has done well this season, except in a few games where the whole arsenal team was shite and they conceded 5-6 goals.

Mutch has been consistent, his stats prove it, I recall him having a great game against us earlier in the season aswell. Gerard has had a good season, I'm sure most midfielders would love to be playing behind Suarez, Sturridge, Coutinho etc, they make his job a lot easier, most players would love the luxury of being immune to red cards like Stevie G aswell. You might call that bias but I've always held the same thing against Vidic and Carragher.
