It's been frozen for next season because there will be no European football, not even Europa League probably.

As i have come to understand it: Half English, half Argentine, lives in Australia. Hates Scott Parker and Harry Redknapp. Likes indie films and high brow art. A thinker. Fancies my sister. Sympathises with Puro (South American connection). Enjoys teasing Otto. Is Luis' age.

Jesus. Bernd has been compiling a dossier.

For the record, gents, I don't fancy Bernd's sister. She's just an easy way for me to get onside with the 'working man' who likes 'football' by engaging in a bit of misogynistic banter.

I won't go as far as pretending to like Scott 'headless chicken' Parker for making full-blooded slide tackles to appeal to the plebs though.

And Bernd, the same thing was said about finishing below Arsenal last season. Yes, we have replaced Redknapp with AVB which improves our chances, and yes, they lost van Persie, but we lost VDV and Modric and their replacements (Holtby and Dembélé) are still finding their feet in this side and are out of form respectively.

Plus we are without the beast that is Sandro (his loss cannot be overstated) leaving us with that donkey Parker in midfield. Furthermore Adebayor is woefully out of form and Defoe is Defoe - an inconsistent striker who scores in patches.

I also feel that Bale's magnificent form is presently papering over a number of cracks.

Despite our current advantage I still think it will be very, very difficult for us to retain a place in the top four. The match against Arsenal will show us how we have progressed. Last year it was the chance to CRUSH THEM (German style), but instead under Redknapp we go to the Emirates playing a 4-4-2 and absolutely capitulate.

Hopefully this loss for Arsenal will spell the beginning of a bad patch for them.

Can't believe I'm agreeing with Rosicky.

There's a serious lack of winning mentally at the club, no pressure to win trophies, the problem is so deeply rooted now that simply spending more money won't still take us anywhere. We need to change the whole structure, from the board down to the manager, to the club's philosophy etc Bring in new people with fresh ideas, our team should be built on primarily having a solid defence to go with a very functional midfield and an efficient attack. Juventus - a club that doesn't have the resources of the likes of Chelsea and City but is every bit as good as them - should be the blueprint. Fuck tiki taka/attacking football. <Ale>

Well that should be pretty straightforward Evil or Very Mad I have to say I'm more pessimistic than I have ever been, not just in the short term (sod this season) but medium to long term for the future of the club. At worst, the economic risks and resulting constraint have been used by both AW and the club as a smokescreen for years of underpeformance, as Rafel Hoeningstein's recent artcile asserts. Or, possibly, AW got his eonomics wrong, as the Simon Kuper article in the FT below suggests

    http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/d363b054-6548-11e2-8b03-00144feab49a.html#axzz2J4V0Gu00

Whichever is the case, the fact is that neither the Club nor AW have any interest or inclination to change (AW #s mission in life is to protect his legacy -not just the footbaling one, but also the business/economic one. That, and a £9.3mil year pay packet - only £100k below Ferg's - is something for him to fight for.

Fair enough, some good points well made. They are still the Falklands though and you can't have them back. My sister is open to negotiation.

I do agree Parker hasn't been in Sandros league. However I do believe calling him a donkey is harsh. He was superb for long parts of last season, he should have been rested during the Euros as he had that ongoing ankle injury and I actually think he hasn't fully recovered. I still think we have a team capable of finishing above Arsenal - if you look at the form of their players individually it's pretty woeful, far more concerning than ours.

We'll see. We are Spurs, and we do broken dreams better rhan anyone, however consistently pessimistic miserable Spurs fans are a pain in the arse given the state of the club now is as exciting as it's been in the last 25 years.

Usually I am hugely pessimistic before a game, increasingly so until about 36 hours before the game at which point I am become incredibly optimistic, and in the 12 hours before kick-off I am sure we will destroy our opponent 5-0 and finish 2nd or 3rd this season.

It's odd that you should say this when it's Barca/Bayern/Dortmund/Spain that are dominant right now but Wenger's best success came when Arsenal were a counter-attacking team - solid back 5 + 2 strong CMs and plenty of speed (Henry, Ljungberg)upfront revolving around Bergkamp's vision.

He tried to mould the team into a possession outfit upon moving to the larger pitch at the Emirates but he's been an utter fail at getting the Cryuff version of the 4-3-3 to succeed and and the lines of the team to work as one. Unlike LVG & Guardiola he was never quite good enough to get the team working from the front. Add to that he's never been able to successfully build his own defensive unit since the one he inherited and there you go.

Results based system is the way to go: solid defence, counter attacks and set pieces should be our forte.

It only makes sense to play the sort of football we want to play if u have got top class players at your disposal. We chose to go through the route of buying young players with potential and tried to develop them into top class footballers and we have all seen what a massive fail that has turned out to be - they all left the moment they started producing the goods on a consistent basis. The other option is to go out and buy ready made top class footballers Laugh No way would our unambitious board do that.

Therefore, there's only one option left IMO - play a result based game. All underdogs who have gone on to win major trophies in the game played a result based system. Do u think Greece would have won the Euros playing tiki taka/attacking footballing? Do u think Chelsea would have won the CL last season playing the sort of attacking football(with a ridiculous highline *JT weeps*) they were trying to play at the start of the season? No way.

Playing a result based game is the easiest way to win trophies at the highest level IMO.
