The goal of the Truth Comission is to ascertain facts, not to take militaries to jail. They are after the brazilian fa president because he supported the dictatorship and publicly praised torturers at the time. Probably they will try to remove him from his post.

Brazil have an amnesty law that retroactively exempts militaries and "left wing people" from criminal liability for crimes committed.

Also in Brazil the statute of limitations for murder is 20 years.

Sheva have you heard of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights? In 2010 it struck down Brasil's 1979 Amnesty law. These gun-point Amnesty laws aren't holding water even in South America any more. There is new evidence relating to the disappeared and that puta Moura. It is similar to what I told Todo about how it could be done. A very similar thing is happening in Colombia and the methods used there apply here. The forensic science is ready to let the disappeared tell their stories. If anyone cares, I can explain how this is done and that it has already succeeded there. I know the people doing it and they are friends of mine. For once the US deserves a lot of credit!

The situation of the military crimes here reminds me of my favourite quote from a Southern US politician: "The search for justice has no statute of limitations. When confronted with the possible miscarriage of justice, even from the distant past, our values compel us to take a second look." : Governor Parris Glendening of Maryland regarding the case of John Snowden, wrongly hanged over 80 years earlier.

Crimes against humanity have no statute of limitations. The ICJ or others can try it if necessary, especially as other Amnesty laws in South America have been cast aside - Chile and Argentina for example. The question here, is whether there is the will to deliver justice for the disappeared. Dictators and their functionaries of any political hue must understand that once they are toppled they will have to answer for crimes against humanity however long it takes. That is the most powerful deterrent to them mounting coups and torturing and killing people. Brasil was not the worst - Gastarrazu Medici excepted - but so what? The crimes of the past shape the future. If they get away with this any future despot knows that all he or she has to do is kill to its so-called heart's content and then amnesty his regime. As far as I'm concerned, that's outrageous. And as for you FA President, kick the bastard out! Ironic that the anti-corruption kick doesn't mention his predecessor Ricardo Texeira and former FIFA President Joao Havelange. What about their proven corruption?

I didn't know that, but in 2010 brazilian Supreme Court decided that the amnesty law is valid. There's no hierarchy between the Supreme Court and the Inter American-Court of Human Rights. Supreme Court members are honest and intelligent men, they are not right wing corrupts.

Sheva, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights is part of the Organisation of American States. Brasil is part of that organisation. It can't just be ignored. For example, before the Confederations Cup its Commission came to Brasil to demand progress on the investigation into the murder of Vladimir Herzog. That could well bite the puta Marin hard!

Oh aye. Spain are still the best but this has been quite nice to watch tonight. Brazil need someone better than Hulk starting for them when it comes time for the proper stuff.
