You were boring and predictable against one of the worst teams in England for most of the season. Madrid will batter you if you play like that.

they had a very good record in this cl season, especially at home, they won every game at home

it`s always hard to play against teams who are for everyone clear underdogs; they still have plenty of experience at this level

To be fair decisions have not always gone Atletico's way this season. In fact there was a time I thought the refs didn't want them to win the league, they got penalties against them in consecutive games whilst blatant (penalty) decisions in their favour were not given. I remember Laporte taking out Diego Costa few weeks ago, one of the most blatant penalty decisions ever, yet the ref just waived play on.

I'm desperate for Atletico to win the league, sorry Jaime and Super  Wink

I think overall it would be good for the image of the league, people would stop comparing it to the SPL. I hardly comment on this thread, but I probably watch more La Liga games these days than I do the premiership.

By the way, what is the consensus on here on Iturraspe? I absolutely love him. Seen him in previous seasons, but he has only really caught my eye this season.

I'm probably not objective here that's why I'm asking, because sometimes u see 1 or 2 qualities u really appreciate in a player, get emotionally attached to him over time and fail to see him any weaknesses in his game. Is he really all that or is Blibao his level?

Ball playing DMs who are very good readers of the game (good at intercepting the ball) are my thing, and Ituuraspe is just that. He's also very good in the air. I see him play a lot of 1st time passes which helps speed up play in the middle of the park and he's very comfortable under pressure (premium quality for a midfielder to have). I think he's good enough to play for a CL team (Arsenal for example) but he's 25 and still uncapped for Spain and doesn't get linked to big clubs. Therefore I sometimes think I overrate him, but then I watch him play and I mostly like what I see. I is confused  Laughing

Bilbao are one of the best footballing teams in Europe, very good to watch. Velverde is doing a remarkable job, maybe Barca should have a look at him.

He was really doing poor job when he followed Pellegrini a few years ago at Villarreal and I still have my doubts about him. For me a lot of progress is made by Bilbao because of Bielsa transformation and Valverde being significantly less rigid comparing to him. Valverde was always known for preferring high tempo football (at last for spanish standards), so I guess Athletic was a natural fit for him and it was one of the reasons that he didn't fit at El Madrigal.

Just like Messiah has said I have no problems losing the league to Atletico. They are so wonderfully progressive I'm almost being a traitor not cheering for them considering last summers Spanish counter revolution that put Ancelotti at the helm. It would be good for the league.

I have to concur with Stinger on Valverde. I'm not surprised when he does well nor when he fails. Not sure what to make of him but at least he is continuing Bilbao's tradition of playing a more high tempo in your face style. He was a more natural and prudent successor to Bielsa's anarchy. Like Heynckes to Van Gaal at Bayern.

Barca 0-1 down..they could lose 4 games in a row. Now that they are out of the title, the Barca-Atleti game becomes really interesting, surely Barca will lose that on purpose even!

You are quite right Fey. We need Barcelona to be within 3 points of Atletico on the last day so that they can win the title. So as much as I enjoy Barcelona losing I have to hope they keep in there. They have two tough away games after the Cl games so they are likely to drop points at least once. That will be all we need for the last day.

Even then when we meet Espanyol we need to not score more than 2 goals so that Barcelona don't capitulate during the Atletico game when they realize it is over for them and that is especially true if the game they are chasing the game at that point.

I guess both of you have a point, I wasn't really aware of his time at Villarreal. I was very impressed with his Olympiakos side though when we played them few years ago.

Great game last night, I thought Herrera and Laporte were very good for Bilbao. Herrera has been good in the 2nd half of the season.

Why is Valverde playing De Marcos ahead of Iraola in the big games? De Marcos is predominantly a midfielder isn't he. He also went for him against Madrid, I thought maybe he was trying to fight fire with fire by playing a more attacking player against Madrid's dangerous left hand side. It worked well in the 1st half as De Marcos troubled Madrid  but was substituted early in the 2nd half. He didn't look great against Barca last night though.

De Marcos can play basically anywhere on the right flank. Going for a Jordi Alba effect, I think. In fact, sometimes he has used Iraola (who also started off as a winger) in front of De Marcos. But Iraola has still been predominantly the first choice at right back. Iraola started the match against Atletico a few weeks before which was a big game. He was on the bench against Barcelona so I don't really know why Valverde picked De Marcos but Valverde hasn't gotten much wrong this season.

Also, anyone is free to wish Atletico the best. If we can't win it, I don't mind them winning. Better them than those polish contes. I think it is good for la liga, overall, but I still think we might nick it before it's all said and done. Biggrin

    Thank you Barcelona

We deeply need them to continue winning as fun as it would be to see them crash and burn. Was disappointed when I saw them behind 2-0 because I thought they would be more motivated after Tito passed away so it was a nice tribute that they could turn it around.
