I was not really excited when his name was initially being linked with replacing Jose. I wanted a fresh face like Laudrup but I think all things considered even though I maybe would have slightly preferred Jupp, I don't have a problem with Carlo and am hopeful that he will give us the same stability that we had during Jose's tenure without all of the bullshit.

I'm hopeful that if Paulinho comes it would be to replace Khedira and the midfield would look like:

A 3 man midfield with Alonso being primarily defensive and distributing and Paulinho being defensive with a penchant for going forward and Modric who is also a responsible distributor of the ball. Absolutely fine with me. But it raises the prospects of Isco and/or Di Maria plus Ozil fighting for the right wing spot. Even if Di Maria is sold that means one of Ozil and Isco will be on the bench because Ronaldo won't be rotated although perhaps Isco can play partime in midfield as the link(Modric's position) to attack.

I'm guesing our fullbacks will have a much more active role under Ancelotti however so perhaps the balance will still be tipped in favour of offensive football.

    4-2-2-2

-------modirc-khedira (but i really hope that you get a player who will bench him, maybe the new coach will transform him into the new gattuso Very Happy)
    -----özil------isco
    ---ronaldo---benzema

with marcelo and carvajal bombing forward

paulinho!!where is all this hype coming from, brazil can`t even dominate there opponents, there central midfield looks fairly average

So I would imagine a 4-3-1-2 that might look something like this:

    -------------------------Casillas

    Arbeloa/Carvajal-----Varane-----S. Ramos-----Marcelo

    ---------Paulinho--------Alonso-------Modric

    ------------------------Isco/Ozil

    ------------Ronaldo--------------Benzema/New Forward?

Now another variation is a more traditional 4-3-3 with Ozil or Isco or Jese on the wings:

    -------------------------Casillas

    Arbeloa/Carvajal-----Varane-----S. Ramos-----Marcelo

    ---------Paulinho--------Alonso-------Modric

    Ozil/Ronaldo/Jese-------Benzema------Ronaldo/Isco/Jese

Isco can and has played deeper for Malaga as well so he could even interchange with Modric at times.

Especially in the 4-3-1-2 variant, we would need the fullbacks to push up to give the team width which would probably give the nod to Carvajal in a lot of sitautions.

    Absolutely

My friends were always saying I was being a contrarian for prefering Cavani to Falcao but this game today illustratres my preference perfectly. Paulinho looks like the type of box to box player I hoped Khedira would be when he first arrived.
