Nahh it's just one game, they've both got an awful lot to prove and Lovren was poor against City. Moreno looks like he might be very useful though - I hope he plays like that every week!

I do feel silly about saying we were forcing Agger out. Turns out that the move was actually his decision and he felt he wasn't up to playing in the EPL anymore. Still think he's a class act though & you're too quick to suggest the new guys are better.

Moreno was fairly poor vs City too - the first goal he swiped at thin air to allow Jovetic to score. Moreno will be a very good buy and he was quality today but I find it odd how you are so anti-Lovren because he apparently isn't worth 20 million and isn't as good as Agger scratch

I've never disputed Agger being a great defender when fit and confident - me and Obispo actually shared an Agger-fetish in the early years of Euroboard. But the time comes when you have to move on and progress; We're in 4 competitions this season and drawing Real Madrid shows the quality we are up against. You need 3 good quality centre backs IMO and one alright 4th choice to play league cup games and occasionally step in when injuries hit the squad. Agger's consistent injuries meant it wasn't worthwhile to keep him just like it wasn't worthwhile to keep Martin Kelly even though he was more than good enough to play right back for us. Skrtel has always been hit and miss, Sakho was brought in to replace him IMO but he's hit good form since we signed Sakho so rightfully he's kept his place. Rodgers knew that Agger was likely to go so had to go out and sign another top class centre back. Who would have been better than Lovren? Can head the ball as well as any defender I've seen, proven in this league, clearly dominant at the back. Yes, some of the things he does might worry me, he can be overly rash and his positional play isn't quite what it should be just yet but they are negated by the many positive qualities he does bring. I actually see him as a future captain I'm that impressed by him.

The only areas of the team I'm concerned about is:

right fullback because I think Rodgers has a strange Johnson obsession and I'm not wholly convinced about Manquillo but if Flanagan hurries he can still grab that spot

Centre midfield - clearly Gerrard is running out if time. He still does wonderful things and works his anus off at the back but he's not conducive to the way we play anymore and there are several more agile players waiting in the wings.

All other areas look very pleasing.

I'm not anti lovren, I've said he's not as good as Agger and hadn't done enough at Southampton to justify his £20million price tag. You've claimed he's our best defender and you've been jizzing all over him before he's played 3 games for us. You're the one jumping to conclusions!

Saying 'Moreno might be very useful for us - I hope he plays like that every week' isn't quite the same. You've made up that I'm anti-lovren, I just don't think he's the Messiah.

Agreed on the Johnson & Gerard points though. Still not convinced by Allen either, but hopefully Lallana takes his place in the team when he's fit.

Gerrard is finished. Not having any sort of replacement lined up for him is criminal. Ironically, this role might have given Agger a new lease of life.

So you bought an attacking midfielder and a defensive midfielder, but no Gerrard replacement?

Can is 20 years old. His time will come ok

But you understand Glenda's point no ?

This is what I was saying about Moreno before he signed. But he's super talented if he can learn to mark he'll be awesome if not he will be Marcelo in about 8 years time. Also Manquillo is pretty ordinary which he had to be otherwise Simeone would have kept him. Flanagan us better. If only his name was Flanaganés!
