For all "he is past it" talk - Iniesta was phenomenal today.
Real had a perfect manager for this kind of club in Ancelotti... and decided to get rid of him when first bump happened. Not raally surprised with Perez, but still a terrible, terrible decision.

Inieata motm.
Bravo made so great saves as well
Neymar is on fire.
Without messi and iniesta for parts of the season, with basically no bench until January. We are six points cleat of Madrid
Who would have guessed it

I think EVERYONE guessed it the moment Real Madrid sacked Ancelotti and hired Rafa.
I hope Real stick with Rafa for a while... there are some interesting surplus players at Madrid. Then when they sack fat Rafa, we can buy Kovacic back for 10m. Love doing business with Madrid.

An odd choice at this point. Surprised he would take this and start off his career in Spain. Risky of him to do but exciting to see if he can translate that great analytical brain of his to practical application. He has brother already there which will give him a helping hand and at this point he is only 5 points from a Cl place and this point he won't get any blame if he misses out on progression in the Cl group.

It's really a bizarre choice, but there is a close connection between 92' class and Peter Lim.
Unlike Moyes Neville's mind seems to have really open football mind though, so he should do better outside UK. But there's always a question about inexperience hindering him.

Re: La Liga 2015/16 Season Thread
Current Villarreal team has to be the most boring and "progressive" ever in El Madrigal history. It proves also how defensive modern 4-4-2 is these days. I am actually surprised to not see Super Progress becoming Villarreal #1 fan
Has to be said Marcelino clearly succeed in making Yellow Submarine a deluxe version of Racing Santander from his years there. I am quite shocked to see us at Champions League spot, especially when we include transfers not working well so far (Soldado as expected is an expensive flop, same goes for Samu Castillejo and Samu Garcia, but they still have time on their side).
At least Bakambu seems to be doing alright and his pace really bothers Primera Centre Backs.

Villarreal week - 0:0 at Calderon, winning draw at Napoli and 3:0 vs Levante with majority of 1st teamers getting rest
Only 2 points behind Real and (hopefully) 11 points ahead of Sevilla and Celta after today.

Re: La Liga 2015/16 Season Thread
When he got hired my thinking was that it was a bad choice and even if things didn't go smoothly, as was likely to happen at a crisis ridden Valencia, he wouldn't make it worse so his reputation wouldn't get tarnished...and boy was I wrong. I still think he deserves a good second chance in England because it was never likely to do that well in that situation.

Apparently he turned down clubs in England before going to Valencia, including 2 premier league clubs, so maybe his ego is telling him he should only take big jobs. Shearer had this issue, he was flirting with the idea of going into management but wouldn't take any lowly jobs, now he seems to have given up on it.

Well deserved win for Real, Bale's goal should not be disallowed as well.
Zidane proved even more how ridiculous was line-up put by Benitez at previous Clasico.

Re: La Liga 2015/16 Season Thread
Not a great game not that I care. We just needed the confidence boost although the silly away draws of the Zidane reign will really burn now because the title is out of the question unless Barca drop points immediately after this and even then it is hard.

Everybody knows this and Benitez will be the first to tell you. Zidane has been brave to bench players(with the exception of Ronaldo of course) and rotate as he sees fit. Aside from this game he hasn't been able to get the team really organised even with Casemiro in there. Marcelo, Casemiro and Bale did really well. Ramos proved yet again that experience does not equate with wisdom. He committed 2 fouls before the red and you can get away with one of those when you're on your first yellow but not two and yet alone 3. Great to see Bale more proactive and I finally believe he has become a real part of this team and not merely an appendage, a productive(goals+assists) appendage mind you. A shame that he couldn't have gotten the goal instead of Ronaldo. To be fair Ronaldo also stepped in the last 15 mins when it was needed and it was great goal. Hopefully this will inspire the team to come together and work for each other. So far the biggest weakness has been the laziness of some of the players. Partly it also seems that Zidane hasn't been able to set up the players in a way they understand so we end up leaving gaping holes.

You're right although my impression is that Gary Neville only took this job because of his connection to the president. Otherwise it would be a strange move to start a career with even if you wanted a big club. Now for most coaches it is better to start with more humble settings but some coaches aren't fit for that and need better and smarter players to execute your ideas. That was always my problem with Michael Laudrup. He was very talented and admitted he needed much better players but still chose small clubs and passed over bigger jobs. I don't know if that is the case with Gary Neville or Shearer but for some it is a better road to take.Kimbo wrote:Super Progress wrote:When he got hired my thinking was that it was a bad choice and even if things didn't go smoothly, as was likely to happen at a crisis ridden Valencia, he wouldn't make it worse so his reputation wouldn't get tarnished...and boy was I wrong. Have to admit - Barcelona current collapse is quite spectacular.
Still, they have the easiest run (Real has the toughest one), can they drop more points during next 5 matches?
