Sterling was poor but who has great end product at 21 ?

    Kane was shit as well.

RS is the only player in the squad who has the dribbling skills to commit opponents.

Bale for pace and technique but RS for skill - you can develop technique with practice at 21 but not the skill and pace - did some lovely work before rose first half cross and we beat Portugal with a great cross from him - maybe take him out of the firing line though and use him late on against tiring opponents.

Wales may sit back and get numbers behind the ball so a good dribbler who can pull people out of position could be vital.

Roy may be concerned that Vardy can't play LW too well and doesn't want to sacrifice a midfielder/width for 2 up top.

Don't say I didn't warn you that Welbeck absence would be a huge problem though  Smile

Too much stick for Roy IMO we haven't got any better defenders so will always concede when the pressure is on like that but surprised how many blame him for instructing kane to take set-pieces when we are not sure that is the case.

I think its more that Kane is the most likely of this crop to go full golden generation and he has been very Lampard in the last couple of games.

Rooney was good but the 9/10 from the Times is a piss take.

I'm concerned that we may have just played the worst team in the group though - have them 16/5 to finish bottom (and Hungary to be pointless at 5/1) so gutted with the equaliser in more ways than one.

I meant more the shots/crosses from FK but if the corner kick involves a clear routine then the taker will be decided in training but if you are doing just put a decent delivery in and everyone fight for it type corner then he may have ?

If a player is having a mare at corners he will often come off them and someone else have a go so not always manager decision.

Would have thought Lallana and Rooney would have been more suitable.

Whatever the situation it was ludicrous that he kept taking them. As you say surely Rooney or Lallana.

Kane's game was not good either his form has dropped leading up to this finals. I don't get this skills thing with Sterling still need to make the right decisions natuarlly 95% of the time this is lacking. Agree on Wellbeck
Now there's a skilled player and goal by Modric

    Bit boring tournament so far

Scholl thinks it's because of the new format. Teams playing more conservative because 3rd place can also make it to KO rounds.

They keep plummeting to new depths.

So far thought has been quite progressive and Italy as I like it. There isn't much quality but a good gameplan from Conte. Belgium doesn't have much coming from the flanks beside Hazard and they have Cb's at fullback so Italy is smart to play with 5 at the back swarming Hazard, De Brunye and Lukaku. Some of Italy's forward play has even been neat at times.

Belgium and Wilmots couldn't be more of a contrast. Unbelievable how clueless Wilmots is. Teams that do well at international competitions tend to have dynamic fullback pairings yet he persists for the second tournament in a row with Cb's across the board. The big problem from the last WC was their slow midfield play due to their solid but functional midfielders. This time he has added another one to the line up and moved De Bruyne to the flank. Unlike last WC they actually have a player now who can distribute the ball with pace in Dembele and he is on the bench. Doh
It would be incredible if Wilmots gets to waste this generation right when it is in its prime.

Great performance by Italy. Very mature and measured by them. Belgium did better towards the end after the subs but Wilmots has to learn and adjust quickly.

Italy have such a solid foundation with their Juve backline who've played together a billion times, while in attacking areas they don't have any outstanding talent but working hard and tactically/technically sound. Manage to take the odd chance and that's a recipe for 1-0 wins (well in this case they put icing on the cake with a 2nd but it was a classic 1 nil kind of performance)

Belgium hmm. They certainly need one of their strikers to find some form if they are going to get anywhere 'cause there were 2 or 3 bad misses and it was quite an England-type performance in its lack of plan B when plan A wasn't working. They could and should have equalised, but they didn't find a way to get Hazard and De Bruyne in dangerous positions enough.

Thats the end of Wilmost. Great finish from HHH. He is already hated in Belgium. Very old and conservative lineup. And it seems the dressing room is divided on the Dutch section and the French section.
