He actually was as well.
Come on people let's be honest. I don't see how Scotland can be happy with this game. In the first half they created NOTHING. It was the worst performance i have ever seen by a football team. God knows how they didn't concede a goal and stay with eleven men on the team. In the second half they improved slightly, but were still inferior to us. They scord with one of their three chances that night.
I am still very pissed off. I just hope we thrash you five-nil again at the SdF.

Re: Scotland vs France
@FF... come on be realistic... france have vastly superior players to scotland... the only way scotland can beat them is the way they did... through a fantastic team rearguard and a hell of a lot of luck...
scotland as a nation have been depreived of a good football team for so long and they are a football nation... all the fans want to see is 100 percent effort and commitment and this is what they got... of course they are going to be happy
but they have very little chance of getting a result in paris

Hmm...how could they be happy?
Maybe they are feeling the same elation Wales felt when they beat Italy in the Euro2004 qualifiers (October 2002 it was I think, except I will concede Wales actually played better than Scotland did)
Perhaps Scotland know that they have half the talent of France and their only prayer is to keep their shape and strike when possible?
Even allowing for sour grapes, don't you think this question has a touch of the absurd?

I was actually at that game and the elation from the people around me wasn't purely because of the result. It was because they'd out played the Italian's rather comprehensively I felt, and certainly deserved their win. Italy's goal was fortunate aswell.
Though trying to explain after the game to OTT Welsh fans that Zauri, Tomassi and Ambrosini are hardly World Beaters themselves, didn't gain teh best reception. How overboard some people went with that result...

Re: Scotland vs France
Scotland tactically played brilliantly. We frustrated France in the first half knowing that if we didn't concede they would get frustrated and give us some gaps to run in to. If Paul Hartley could control a ball with his left foot he should have made it 2-0 when he was played in.
It wasn't pretty but there aren't many teams in the world that are going to beat France by playing attacking football.
If you had a central defence consisting of Steven Pressley and David Weir (surely two of the slowest players in world football) up against the likes of Henry and Ribery then obviously you're going to tell them to sit in.
Surely no-one was surprised that Scotland played like this. The only thing that surprised me was that it was so effective. France had only one clear cut chance(less than Scotland).
Because we played like the away team today and won, I wouldn't be surprised if we got a result in Paris or Rome. I'm more concerned about playing the likes of Lithuania and Georgia at home when we are going to have to attack them.
Scotland deserved to win, it wasn't pretty but what do you expect?

how on earth can you say this.... especially in trezeguets case.... he was clearly offside from the pass... i couldn't care less about the subsequent ricochets..he was 100 % offside...rai Mihawk wrote:France should have won .. no way Vieira or Trezeguet were offside, but that's football for you ..
vieira was a marginal decision. there was no 'daylight'... but from where the linesman was you can easily understand why he gave it..
scotland were lucky.. in pure footballing teams they did not deserve to win and france were vastly superior to them... but as FF says everyone said bolton deserved to beat us a week ago whenever they didnt play any football and had two shots in the whole game so it depends which viewpoint you take

Trezeguet was caught offside twice in the game, the second time he was onside .. but that's in the past now.
your right Scotland were lucky, but you need 'luck' in international football no matter how good you are ..

One Chance? Henry Free kick on the bar, Malouda shot just saved by Gordon, Malouda shot just wide of the top corner, Vieira "offside" goal, Trez "offside" goal, Henry header right at the end, Wiltord cross at the death....

Re: Scotland vs France
hardly johnny... they got lucky... were hammered in the first half almost embaressingly.. not even andorra would have parked the bus as badly ... they then took the only way they were going to score with a set piece.. sometimes games like this just happen and are unexplainable... smith got his tactics right but more importantly he got incredibly lucky. this combination is the only realistic way scotland can beat france and it just happened on this day... france were not outplayed tactically... it was just one of those days for themJohnny_thunde_R wrote:theflyingfrenchman wrote:You deserved to win? Re: Scotland vs France
To be quite honest I was at the pub and I can't really remember the game that well. I only remember being scared twice. Henry's freekick (which I don't classify as a clearcut chance that you'd expect to score) and Henry's late header. The rest were speculative and unlikely to beat a good keeper like Gordon, or illegal and not going to count.
Fair enough McFadden should have been sent off, he's a complete idiot.

You could say that about all of Soctland's chances.
Do you not remember tha Malouda rocket from inside the area which flew just wide of the top corner.

On Talk Sport today they were talking as if Scotland had emerged as a footballing world power. Amazing how a single result can change the view of some people. There is a lot of luck in football. Over the years some teams have had more than their fair share when it mattered, others have had very little. A bit of luck in a single game doesn't make you a world power.
