He's 25...so that's atleast 7, probably 8 more years of mediocrity.

If he turns into Tony Adams his hero, I won't be to unhappy.
Crying shame that Shearer was given the captaincy over Adams. It would be the same if Gerrard got it over Terry.

Re: Terry named England Captain
I really don't think the captaincy's that important. It's not cricket for christ's sake. All the captain has to do is spout platitudes in interviews and complain to the ref.

@ obispo
terry is a great player and leader and even if i hate him i still think hes a better choice than gerrard as captain for england. The fact he is captain will not lead to mediocrity.

Would have preferred Neville as imho he should be less droppable at the mo, but imho better than gerrard cos i like defenders as captains

I just don't see the point of giving the captaincy of the national team, to a player who's not shown any sign of adapting to international football. The only way Terry's going to be a good captain is England set up like Chelsea do, and do they really have the personnel to do that?
It doesn't overly concern me that Gerrard isn't captain, I'm a liverpool fan not an England fan, I just think he was the best long term choice and has proven that he can turn things around in the big games. What's Terry going to do when England go behind? Scream at players and win headers on the edge of his box... Inspiring.

After being in a defence that conceded 2 at the other end, yes. He scored from a set piece. Gerrard scored 2 and set one up in open play in the FA cup final and scored one and got the penalty in istanbul. ... Terry's scored from a set piece and won a penalty that was even more dubious than Gerrard's in istanbul.
Good luck to him, I just don't think he's the best choice.

Re: Terry named England Captain
obispo - Adams was a great captain its not just about what you do on the pitch in terms of performance, although that was becks style fair enough but its about encouraging, patting players on the back when they´ve made a mistake and these days a good PR man for the press, terry is not ideal for this but imho better than gerrard who just comes across as a thick scouser, and has been taught the rafa interview to a tee,. yawn yawn

Re: Terry named England Captain
Bother, it tok me till this morning to decide i wanted Gerrard and then they choose Terry.
Im still hoping for that King Ferdinand partnership although it looks pretty far off.
Maybe Terry will manage if we play the relatively defensive midfield of Haargreaves and Carrick.

Re: Terry named England Captain
what a pack of fucking cunts the general public are.
someone just emailed SSN saying "great, now we have the wrong captain and wrong manager here's to 4 more years without winning anything, at least the manager knows what thats like"
yeah, never won anything at United did he?...well apart from the Treble...nothing with us...apart from our first ever trophy...
and I suppose with a different captain, we'd have won the fucking World Cup.
Idiots.

OK - Once I stopped crying about the appointment of Terry as Captain and trying to understand/lambasting the mentality of the dinosaurs that run football in this country, does anyone have an idea of how we'll actually play to make life more comfortable for Terry? Given that he's been turd in a national shirt?
