terry is the best choice even if he didnt reproduce his best form at the world cup.
Until gerrard and lampard learn to play together or lampard is dropped i dont think gerrard should get as the responsibilties could be too much.

Re: New England Captain
Gary Neville. He's experienced and consistent
Neither Gerrard (inconsistent) or Terry (just plain shite) have played well enough for England to show they can lead the team. As is well known, I fully recommend that Terry be omitted from the 1st XI.
If it's based on who's actually the best English player, then surely Rio Ferdinand should be captain?

Re: New England Captain
I agree that rio is probably one of the best technically gifted english players and played quite well at the world cup (compared to some people). But gary neville shouldnt be because he is getting on a bit and i think that they should be trying to phase him out of the team to find a younger right back which would be impossible to do if he was captain.

No - It's based on "Do the quality of one's performances and general professionalism set a good example for the rest of the team"
I've had it up to here with "Terry must be captain as he's a talker". If I want to watch someone get stitches in their head, I'll watch UFC, thank you. It means jack all if his performances are shite, which they have been.

Surely a coach should only really be given 2 years?Keano Is God wrote:I agree that rio is probably one of the best technically gifted english players and played quite well at the world cup (compared to some people). Neville at 33-34 (Euro 2008), will still be one of the top 10 in his position in the world. Mr Reliable - that's what a true captain should be. Not someone who's made major Errors in 5 of their last 6 Internationals. If we were talking about Cygan, Traore, Metersacker, Boumsong etc. this debate wouldn't even be happening.

I wouldnt say Terry isnt professional, he has his shit moments...but that happens.
I do know you have a vendetta against all things Terry though, so no point arguing about it.

Re: New England Captain
terry, maybe his performances will improve being captain
He is best choice as captain not talking about performances, but as captain yes. sven used to hand it to beckham owen, so he didnt go for best captain duno what he went for.

Re: New England Captain
If we want to see Terry Really playing well for England - we have to replicate the Chelsea system.
England don't have the players for it. I'd rather see us playing high up the pitch pressing the opposition, with mobile, ball-playing defenders who can use an offside trap efficiently. This is the exact opposite of Terry's game. He's not comfortable playing offside, he's comfortable sitting deep and heading things away - Is it any coincidence that he looked at his most confident in the Portugal QF when we sat on the edge of our box for a good hour?
How many International sides just toss a long ball up to a targetman and engage a centre back in one on one aerial combat? If this was the case, I'd be all for Terry's inclusion. This isn't a vendetta - I've seen over the past 3 years that he's not comfortable playing in any other system other that his low-line 2 DM protected system at Chelsea. True story

Until gerrard and lampard learn to play together or lampard is dropped i dont think gerrard should get as the responsibilties could be too much.
Do you think with terry as captain that lampard will ever be dropped?
And with Neville as captain the same goes for beckham.
So if england want any kind of change they have to go with Gerrard or it will be more years of the same, and a waste of englands potential "golden generation".

Re: New England Captain
Terry. TS and I, we have similar opinions. But on Terry, no.
He is the ideal England Captain. The fact that he already Captains the current EPL champs, and has done for 2 years, and the fact that from the back he is capable of seeing the game spread out infront of him, factor in his imposing presence- give it to JT.

Is this the mudslinging etc that you accuse me of? I don't know what your problem is?
What actually is wrong with what I said? "Keane is god" said he would like terry as captain and lampard to possibly be dropped and I asked if both things could happen.
Most think that both lampard and beckham need to be dropped, and I point out that with either terry or neville as captain change is much less likely.
I see that neville is a favourite as well as scholes and ferguson. Please can you give me a list of players and managers that get you are in love with as it will be much easier.

Terry.
IMO he is miles better than Gerrard at talking to and encouraging players and he has more 'up there' than Gerrard to boot.

Are you sure? He reminds of the typical english centre back from the 80's. Have you seen the film Mike Bassett England Manager, where after giving a speech about keeping it tight and calm etc he asks the captain and central defender for any last words and he shouts "Let's f*cking kill'em" and punches a hole in the wall when leaving the dressing room
Wasn't he also arrested from some kind of violence in a nightclub? Which kind of fits the notion above.
Also for me King is a much better player than Terry, and england would end up in the same situation as with Beckham, being undroppable because he is captain.

I'd rather stick with Beckham!

Sorry, I missed the part where the opposing captains play chess if it's drawn at full-time.
Honestly, I'm fed up now. If you don't like Gerrard for England, we'll just keep him for Liverpool. At least he won't get injured so much

Re: New England Captain
But Terry rolls his socks up over his knees like Thierry Henry. That just shows the mans character. No slouch.
An 80's central defender would never wear his socks that high for fear of looking like a girl in suspenders.
And if you dont think the way a player wears his socks is important, then realise this- Ramsay told his players in the 1966 WC they would win going into extra time. The reason? Because his players had their socks rolled up and the Germans didnt, literally. And he was right...
Thus, to summarise, the sock issue is the deal breaker for me.
