Agree with you there Kimbo, it would be extremely harsh to compare Carrick with Parker as they do play substantially different roles for their respective clubs.

Parker i feel is a very good player however is playing for a struggling club, he has yet to prove he can cut it at the very highest level as he found getting a chance at Chelsea very difficult, and has yet to outshine similar midfielder Hargreaves in an England shirt.

He does a good job for the Geordies and if they had 10 other players who contributed what he does for Newcastle week in week out they most certainly would not be in the position they find themselves in at the moment.

tongue Don't get me wrong. Im with you on the n'zogbia and parker issues but I think dyer will save the day.. (for a few matches of course Wink ).. emre finally looked like he had someone of similar ability to get involved with.

kimbo has had his punishment for his early season naughtyness.. As FG says having to watch that team should be the most he has to put himself through Wink

Man U are top of the league and Carrick is part of the team. This cannot happen without the first 11 players pulling there weight. Right now he is doing enough,if they were losing it would be another matter. Good thing about united is they do not build teams around there star players........Wink

I'm a big Carrick fan and was praying him to be a success.

I sat on the fence a bit in the summer, not because I questioned his quality but because the fee was pretty extortionate - you have to equate the value of a player though. If you but someone for a large amount but don't do better in competitions then the investment wasn't worthwhile. Man Utd sit top of the league at present and look as though they will qualify for the knokouts of the CL - for Carricks transfer to be worthwhile though he has to make SIGNIFICANT differences in the Champs league.

Sure if Man Utd come 2nd or 1st in the league then his transfer will have been justified, its early days though.

He was principally bought for the CL where each game has an incredible cost riding on it - Man UTd IMO need to at least get to the Quarters this year, esp after the lack of progess the past two years. the CL is the bigget football tournament on the world and the creme de la creme of trophies and IMO the style of footall is also suited to Carrick. IMO this is what SAF bought him for and I HOPE that he is able to make difference to uniteds chances at the business end of the competition ok

But in terms of league form he has been great - not so much the ground he covers, he'll never be a Roy Keane, but his passing has been fantastic, some of it goes unnoticed by some on here I feel but his ability to make inciseive passes allows united to strike the opposition quicker, and speed of attack is often the best method for hurting the opponent, so Ale to Carrick

It's early days for Carrick yet anyhow. I'm pleased with how he's gone so far but I remember Beckhams's 1st season with Madrid how when he went into midfield with Quieroz he was brilliant for the about 3/4th of the campaign and they looked on course for the treble, 12 points clear in the league, storming the CL and in the final of the Copa Del Ray.

Then it all came crashing down. Yes I know there are many different forces at work in both situations: midfield is not Beckham's right position, their squad was very small, Madrid were doing a Newcastle as far as their defense was concerned etc...

My main point being is that all the praise for Carrick will amount to nought if nothing comes of it come May.
