Nah, it'll be Newcastle before them Razz

To be honest it depends on the draw though - if you end out drawing someone like Benfica then you're fucked

So incredibly lucky, wait til someone does a Sevilla on you.

    Marca:
El equipo de Glenn Roedor recurrió al pelotazo como recurso para sorprender a su rival.
Glen Roeder's team resorted to the long-ball to surprise their opponents.

    Kind of say's it all.

Milner spent the whole of the second half raping the Celta Vigo fullback, so not sure how that fits into Marca's summarisation.

He was the best player on the pitch by a considerable distance ok

Thats the least I've seen Newcastle use the long ball all season.

Lazy journalism exists outside of the UK too, its just we never hear much about it- I'm betting the writer in Marca spent little time actually watching the game and then decided to fall upon the old cliche that all english sides "play it long".

No doubt Newcastle did play it longer than Celta, but thats because the Spanish side seemed to spend an awful lot of time passing it around there midfield and defence then losing it...!!

Nah, Newcastle were worth their win.

    Kimbo, in first instance, congratulations.

In second instance, this is exactly what I told you at the beginning of the season. The UEFA cup is hardly worth the trouble. The fans don't seem to be interested in the initial stages. And frankly, you will get few bigger teams than Celta in the UEFA cup at this point. It costs a lot of effort (and some luck) to get far and it goes at the cost of the league, where you SHOULD be concentrating on.

Sevilla are still my favourites, bitterly dissappointed they didn't make the CL last season as they are far too good for this competition.

Palermo is fighting with Celta and Frankfurt for that 3rd spot. If they win their last game against Celta, Celta are out. Frankfurt must then win their last two games to knock Palermo out (they play against Newcastle and Fenerbahce still).

still much can happen in that group.

And who would he take that place away from? The dutch league is not a small one either. You had three CL places until this year, no? It looks like Romania is going to pass you though. Perhaps also Portugal and Germany.

I'd be really interested to hear how Platini wants to manage changing the ranking/CL spot allocation. He can't afford to piss off the big three. Enlighten me, please. How's he going to do it? So far he sounds very much like a presidential candidate promising tax cuts during the campaign. And we all know how much that means.

It's the later stages that are exciting. I still remember the game against Sporting Sad etc and they were GREAT nights. Nothing's going to happen for us in the league this season(i think we'll finish 10th-15th) so this is the only thing(along with the FA Cup) that will excite the fans. In the latter stages we WILL see the stadium fill up, assuming we get there.

Drenthe was good indeed. He's a very bright prospect. Don't know why we didn't play him last season (like I wanted). Imo as left fullback Royston > Urby.

When it comes to youth players things changed since 5-10 years ago (academy improved). Our new youth players are better. Lots of brihgt prospects in U18s and especially U16s. But it always hard to say who make it, goes for every club. Sometimes mentality, and things like that are more important than football skills. Also some youngsters development stalls and some improve every year.

By the way looks like we'll finsh 3rd in the group & Spurs willl win theirs: collission course!! (thinking of buying a riot gun)

BTW2: saw the match on video this morning, should have been a penalty for that OOijer foul on Huysegems (despite the majority of English newspapers saying otherwise, strangely on Blackburn messageboards, they all say they're very lucky)

    UEFA probe plastic cup attack

UEFA will investigate the incident in Blackburn's UEFA Cup tie at Feyenoord where a plastic cup was thrown at Morten Gamst Pedersen.

Rovers' Norwegian star Pedersen has revealed he had a plastic beer cup thrown at him in Rotterdam on Thursday night.

The incident happened in the 13th minute at the De Kuip Stadium when he shaped to take a throw-in.

A UEFA spokesman said: "The matter was mentioned by the UEFA match delegate and a case has been opened.

"It will be investigated and is likely to be dealt with by the control and disciplinary panel on December 7."

Pedersen said: "I got beer in my face and had sticky eyes afterwards. It could have been worse but it should not happen.

"Of course you think what might have happened if it was something else, like a hard thing, but it was just plastic."

Pedersen added: "It is up to them if they follow it up or not.

"But I am okay. There are no marks on me, just a bit of beer in my eyes."

Blackburn secured their passage into the knockout stages after picking up a hard-earned point from a 0-0 draw.

    Professionalism on Pedersen's behalf ok

However, if the liquid was more than 'beer' and harmful (i.e. acid), UEFA can do nothing but investigate ..

Thats the least I've seen Newcastle use the long ball all season.

Exactly how many guilt edge chances did Vigo create? sqat.

And Newcastle had SO many first team regs out it was a joke!

I remember at least three ocassions when the ball was hoofed down the middle for Sibierski to chase (?). A draw would have ben a fair result given that both teams didn't create any real chances.

Bullshit. We sell beer in the stadium, acid isn't sold in the stadium.
