Mate, I think this "after 3 games the hype is crazy" with respect to the Germans is rather missing the point – it's more that what was already an incredible party had the hysteria of "oh my fucking Christ we could actually do this" added to it, thus making a fantastic atmosphere, with the fans of all countries that were actually there all partying together, even more awesome.
Sorry to sound sentimental but I do think it's wrong to lump this in the category of "oh the Germans were overhyping themselves too". You should have been there.

To address something raised in the original post, borderline arrogance is essential for top sports professionals. England really piss me off though, spoiled wankers. There seems to be a culture of back slapping in the England camp.
