Just how good is Wayne Rooney

Alot of you seem to be slating him at the moment and I can see why (he's been shocking lately) but some of it has also been completely over the top (he's useless and should be dropped..etc).

So just how good is he?

Try and ignore bias......yeah right.

FYI I voted for very good.

He is quite overrated in this country (most English footballers are) but I think he offers the team alot and that this period of form wont last forever.

I voted One of the best in the Premiership.. I think he has tonnes of talent, and is just suffering a bit of bad form.

Poor season and he's still joint 4 top scorer and one of the highest assisters as well.

You've pretty much summed it up there to be honest. On his day he is one of the best in the league, but he needs to be alot more consistent to be considered one of the best.

Does a lot without really doing anything. finishing abysmal, final ball often is lost, making the wrong decisions, seems determined to make sure he doesnt score. Normally i would say one of the best in the prem.

Somewhere between "Very good" and "A passenger, but only on current form".

I suppose with Rooney & Ronaldo, you were expecting the inconsistencies because of their age, so one could rise to the occasion when the other has an off day. The problem is, that when Ronaldo has a duff game (like today), Rooney isn't making up for the shortfall, when Ronaldo has been covering his back a lot of the time.

He's still a great young player, with the potential to become World Class - but for now, he's a poor Man's Adriano.

He'd be better if he could play/was playing a Saha role. Personally, he doesn't have the ability to ever become world class in his current role even if he can against smaller teams.

his problem is he just isn't a very good finisher. for a striker this is quite major but we keep hearing he will eventually evolve into an attacking midfielder so will have to see if he fares much better as this. he has already proven to be useless on the left

Hunger will fuel his temper in a positive way just by giving him a important midfield role and getting a sniff of goal from time to time.......

This thread should be called 'Do you support Man United?'

What are his atributes? He has no real pace, is poor in the air and his finishing is erratic.

His main atribute is his determination, which seems to raise the rest of his game and has been lacking lately.

His "all round game" isn't all that either. Atleast not for someone with supposedly fantastic awareness. He's not Sheringham.

i voted for A passenger, but only on current form because so far this season he hasnt really impressed but last season he was one of our best players

Can't really disagree with that.

He may not be as fast as Saha but he has lots of pace, strength and stamina. Said this before. His terrier like attributes suit a role in the engine room of the team.. Destroying defensive midfielders the likes of Makelele and Gattuso. By chasing and husseling down and causing mayhem in front of top defences.. He feeds on confrontation not playing as a lonesome forward...As for his poor form this is in part caused by the boring positon he is expected to play.....

I voted 'very good'. I don't think Rooney is as good as people make him out to be. I do think he has the potential to be world class. I used to think he was already so, but I stand corrected.

Since Euro2004, he has barely shone for England, and his performance against Fenerbahce was the last dominant one in Europe; I am struggling to recall anything equally imperious.

totti got called world class before his sides successes in the world cup based purely on his league form.

Of course on here Serie A is rated higher than the EPL I suppose

Apart from the two goals we had 10 very good chances and Rooney was only accountable for 2 of them.

Its not just the missed chances he loses the ball in the build up and generally does not contribute much at all, He went through this last season but everyone slated Ruud
