    Wayne Rooney Empty Wayne Rooney

Post by Tweesus Mon Mar 19, 2007 2:49 pm

We haven't had a thread all season! - it used to be the staple thread on the 606 EMB...

So, apparently he's not been having the best of seasons, despite the fact that he is an integral part of the team sitting top of the table. He's also managed to provide end product in the form of 13 goals and 13 assists - in just under 30 games - pretty good to say he's a support striker.

Has he improved upon last season?

Has this really been that bad a season for him?

    Is he better than Podolski?

And is he nearing the infamous 'world class' bracket?

No to all but your 2nd question.

The Premiership has it's own Adriano now though.

    Hardly comparable in my books.

Rooney is three years younger than him - 3 years ago Adriano stats read:

    Flamengo 17--------6
    Inter------8----------1
    Fiorentina 15--------6
    Parma----28--------15
    Int/parm 25--------17

Bak then Adriano was one of the best prospects on the planet remember - nowadays they're not comparable IMO - Adriano seems to have flumped

    Joint 3rd in goals.
    Joint 3rd in assists.

    Thats brilliant.

He just needs more consistency and better European performances.

13 goals and 13 assits suggests he has been directly involved in all but 4 prem games. He hasnt really, hes had a few good games and alot of average games. By his high standards, its probably been his worst season since he joined united. However I wouldnt swap him for any other player in the prem as in form Rooney is simpy awesome.

I think because Ronaldo has been playing so well its made Rooney look worse than he actually is. Its a bit like going out on the pull with Beckham. Also Rooney and Ronaldo very rarely play well together. There are not many games were both have been outstanding, its either one or the other which is worrying.

He is much better than Podolski (one for the Germans, nice one tweeds) podolski has 3/4 goals this season despite playing in a weaker league. No one actually believes Podolski is in Rooneys league, do they?

He has not come any closer to becoming world class this season, although hopefully after playing a few games up front on his own, he will learn the essential skills of being a striker; positioning and finishing. He has the ability and next season him and Ronaldo will run riot in England and in Europe.

    @Tweeds,

dont take Obispo's comments seriously. Rooney's played for Everton, Man United and is English. To a Welsh Liverpool supporter, it doesnt get much worse than that ;-)

Fact is, a huge number of 21 year olds can only dream of having such a "shit" season that Rooney has

I'll sidestep that question - Rooney's goals have come in bursts this season but its not true of previous seasons - he does also have a bit more skill than Adriano - who if he was english would be described as a hoof-n-run type player that relies purely on his physical attributes

He does! Adriano can do one piece of magic but often his general touch is poor and he is quite possibly the most one footed player I've ever seen. My Gran has a better right foot than he does

Yup, and of course at the age of 21 he should be hitting the net regularly against the likes of Barcelona, Milan and the like.

Probably not, but then again, I'm not saying Bellamy is world class or even close to.

Scored a goal every 3 shots last season... When Rooney manages that, let me know.

    @Obispo,

True, but then Bellamy has never been an integral part of the Champions of England at the age of 21, nor recorded 13 assists in one season. He has no reason to be deemed World Class

And Lampard has scored more this season than Bellamy. Means fuck all.

I mean for long periods of time, like 4/5 games of both playing well. Its normally one or the other. Trust me its something I have picked up on.

I have heard Otto rave about him, but he is a German zealot and his opinion on all things German, despite being quite funny, should be ignored. I have nver watched him and thought I would have in my team or I would hate him to play against my team. He cant even score in the german league or get into the worst Bayern team in years. He is a good player, but he has done nothing to suggest that he is as good as Rooney.

You said you would like Tevez who is very similar to Rooney, even you have to admit Rooney is class. He is not playing at his best at the moment, but still has 13 goals and 13 assists. Last season before he got injured he was brilliant and he has shown enough during his time at united to suggest he is one of the best players in the prem and the potential to become world class.

Got nothing against Blubbertop Pele. He's just over-hyped, s'all. I said last summer that Spurs were just keeping him warm for us for a season and nothing he's done so far has proven me wrong Smile

Rooney is that bad Rez, he's just not very good either. He was only introduced to the Everton first team at such a young age because of his goalscoring record at youth level. He couldn't translate that to first team football so he's been marketed up as a "thinking man's footballer" instead. He's not the British Bergkamp. He's not even Sheringham.

Just a lump who can finish 'ok'.
