And yet this is the first season where we've had no injuries to left backs in a very long time. Let us not forget that Wayne Bridge has been out for long periods in all his Chelsea seasons so far, which tempted Mourinho to go out and buy another EPL proven LB.

Let us also not forget that our beloved CB wanted out of the club, and nothing Mourinho could do would change his mind. Let us also not forget that our beloved chief executive didn't clinch the deal until 20 minutes before the close of the transfer window, giving us no time to find a replacement.

It's also the 1st season that we've had major injuries with our CBs.

Indeed, it may have worked out to be a shrewd manoeuvre. After all, we've never been at this stage of the season and still been in 3 competitions, with 1 in the bag already.

The attitude Mourinho has fostered at Chelsea is outstanding. Your victory over Valencia in the Mestalla is a remarkable achievement, I think. Without that attitude, though, I doubt it would have come to fruition. In that respect, I don’t think there is another team playing at your level who can match you.

The thing is, he would probably get more praise if he was a striker than if he was getting that tally from 'midfield'.

At least he wouldn't get loads of criticism for doing no midfield work.

This is what I don't get parky. Essien aside, he is the hardest working midfielder in the team. The amount of distance he covers for Chelsea running up the field to get on the end of knockdowns/lay-offs, and then running back to help out his defence is unbelieveable.

You can criticise Lampard for not being technically gifted, for being slow, for how many shots he has etc, but I am surprised how many people criticise him for not working hard enough.

Midfield work is not just working hard though? scratch

I'm talking about passing, build up play, dominating games, grabbing them by the scruff of the neck.

Energy and finishing he is first rate.

For some reason, I was thinking that he'd only scored 20. I forgot to include today's goal.

Let's not mention that quite a number of Lampard's goals were scored against non-prem standard opposition Very Happy

That game yest was hugely nerve-racking. When Pedersen missed that header with 5 mins to go... Yikes

Sheva had a nightmare of a game, but Ballack was good - assist & goal ok

Mikel is incredible, A.Cole had one ofhis better games as well. Terry not so good.

Maké / J.Cole were good in the first half not in the 2nd. Both cant play a full match at the moment for fitness reasons. I'm afraid this may be near the end for Maké, he's just too tired these days.

I'll be going to Wembley Whoop

    * I take it something disastrous happened to the board yesterday ?? Too many threads.

Kenyon: "We are not sacking Jose"

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has today (Friday) spoken about José Mourinho's future and on-going player contract negotiations.

In an interview on Chelsea TV, which can be seen from 6.30pm, Kenyon gave the following answers to important questions:

Q: Peter, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding Chelsea recently?

A: There has, and I would like to be clear on one thing. We support José as manager and given the level of speculation, where we are now is an even bigger achievement.

Whatever you have read or heard, no lists of candidates have been drawn up, no one has been offered the job. So let's put that to bed straightaway.

José has a contract to 2010 and he wants to stay. We are not going to sack him, he has the club's support. That's the situation and we are agreed on it.

Q: Will this stop the speculation?

A: Hopefully it will and I think it should. As far as we are all concerned what is most important is that it is business as usual at Chelsea and putting all our energy into winning the three remaining trophies.

Q: And what about the situation re player contracts?

A: Every contract is unique, no two contracts are the same. Michael Essien, Wayne Bridge and Didier Drogba have all signed new deals. That's fantastic news for the future of Chelsea.

John Terry and Frank Lampard are not yet completed. That's football. What's important to remember about contract speculation is that there are only two definitive stages, when the discussions start and when they end, either with an agreement or with no agreement.

And at the moment we are in between those situations.

Again, I don't want anything to deflect us from our main goal, winning matches and trophies. And I think the players we have been talking to agree, both John and Frank have said similar.

Don't think they did. It was around christmas time that United had a 13 point lead over Arsenal (who were midtable at the time) though.

Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack has been ruled out of the Champions League first-leg semi-final with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge due to an ankle injury.

The Blues are also without winger Arjen Robben (knee) and midfielder Michael Essien (suspended), but defender Ricardo Carvalho did train on Tuesday.

Liverpool right-back Steve Finnan has recovered from a neck injury.

England international Jamie Carragher is set to equal Ian Callaghan's club record of 89 European games.
