    Messi isn't over-rated.

He has the best defense in the world looking like school boys in the CL.

Dominated RM for 60 Minutes (he should have gotten the standing ovation)

Score in the World cup and had an assist. After coming back for and injury (so don't use that has and excuse for Rooney)

    He has also won everything.

    CL
    League Championship
U-20 world cup (top scorer and best player) is an important competition very-where except England, and that’s because they aren't good enough to Qualify.Razz

What had Rooney done, score some goals and some impressive performances against mediocre opposition.

But football isn't all about stats.

So I shall say Messi is better that Rooney in every department of his game, except for his long shoot

Since Chelsea and Barca are playing against Levski Sofia, and Sofia is only 200km away from here, i'm definitely going. The Chelsea game is in the end of September, and Barca one in November, if i'm not mistaking.
A big crowd from here is preparing for those trips.

Well Rooney has been non-existent in Europe for 2 years, other than his debut hatrick. And he's hardly been wowing anyone with his Intl performances either. Against Sevilla, Messi probably played his worst game in a Barca shirt, and he was too predictable. He will need to learn to become more comfrotable with his right foot (which he does seem to be trying to improve) so that he can beat players either way.

Messi was a revelation last season, and outshone the other big stars, on many occaision. Is he overrated? Probably. Is he genuinely one of the best young talents in the world? Definitely.

I am very surprised that Zambrotta has only played about 10 minutes for Barca so far. He's probably the best FB in the world, ffs.

1- 0 to Celta at HT

This is like watching Arsenal play. Bulk of posession, good build up and then far too tentative in the box. Also far to narrow - you've got the best blinking right back in Europe with Zambrotta, and Giuly is pretty decent on the right on his day too - use them for chrissakes - instead of tippy tappying into the centre (Iniesta is very bad here) and towards Messi who then immediately gets sat on by 35 Celta players. Doh

    Quite frustrating

Deco looks to be up for it at least..........

Any chance you guys will let Saviola go on a loan ths season?

I'd like to see him at Sporting, but we obviously don't have the cash to pay his wages so you'd have to flip some of the bill Wink

Just on the same line as Luso, what is the Saviola situation... Does he not have any chance of a future with Barca?

Eidur Gudjohnsen's goal was class - he will prove to be just as good a squad player for Barcelona as Larsson was - being saying it since the day you were linked with him and the proceeded to sign him. He's such a intelligent and gifted player Coolok

It was mentioned that Barca don't particularly do well at Celta - so it was a great result for them to grind out IMHO.

That's a lot of big wages that can be spread out somewhere else - how long of his contract does he have to go?

I am 99% sure that Saviola has no future at Barcelona, however the club and the player is locked in a battle.

FC Barcelona insists on selling the player, for 3 main reasons.
    1) Saviola earns app. 3.5 million euros a year (fixed).
    2) FC Barcelona still owes River a final instalments of 6 million euros.
    3) Rijkaard does not beleive that Saviola fits into the current system.

Saviola on the other hand does not want to take a wage cut and only wants to leave on loan. The reason behind this is that Saviola is out of contract next year and can, of course, gain more if he is on a free transfer.

Saviola has been linked to: Arsenal, Bolton, Sevilla, Zaragossa, Racing, Espanyol, Fenerbache, Galatasaray etc.

IMHO this reeks of a battle between Laporta and a player agent. Laporta has been busy cleaning out all players from the Gaspart era, while the player is very content in holding on to a wage structure that no longer exists at Barcelona (and is grossly exaggerated compared to the other players, eariing more than players like Giuly, Márquez Guddy etc.). It is also said that Rijkaard dislikes Saviola after his sending off against Celtic (which left the team without strikers for the return leg in the UEFA).
Hopefully sense will prevail and the player will be allowed to leave on loan (as even a little money is better than Saviola being stuck in the reserves) if no one is willing to buy him, but a the moment the club and player is testing eachother..

Personally I would like him to stay if he is willing to sign a new flexible wage contract.

    Pay-as-you play?

Athough that's usually only for either veterans or Oft-injured players.

I don't think a pay-as-you play deal is good enough. It would mean too much of a victory for Saviola.. I am guessing a loan contract where FC Barcelona pays 40-50% of the wages..

Barca has received a whopping 12 last minute offers for Saviola, but the player has rejected all of them!!! This is even after Barca went to the extreme step of agreeing to release him on a free (as long as he renounced the 5 million that would have to be paid to him). The offers came from Aston Villa (most serious ones), Racing Santander, Mallorca, Zaragoza, Fenehrbache, and PSV, with Sevilla keeping an eye on things.

Even though I suggested last week I may be willing to let him stay on, after this episode I have firmly changed my mind. What a total and utter cunt, surely he knows he won't get any (or very little) playing time and should leave. I can understand rejecting Mallorca or Santander, but Aston Villa are doing quite well. PSV are a great club too.

I find it hard to believe that a player would be so willing to sacrifice a whole year of his career just to piss us off, is this guy really interested in football? scratch
And if I was Basile I'd instantly drop him from the national squad too.

In short, go f*** yourself Mr. Javier Saviola, I hope you never get a decent contract again in your life. Not that you would care, after making your life's savings from us all these years.

(Watch him now go and sign for someone later today, making my rant look silly!)

I first i was sympathetic, towards him and the situation he found himself in. but now i see that he is nothing more that a money hurry little fucker. i can't see why he doesn't want to leave and let the club get some form of reimbursement for it. a lot of good clubs have come in for in and he had rejected everyone of them.

the only reason i can think of as to why he doesn't want to must is that he wants to get the club back. He doesn't want us to get any money for his sale yet he wants to stay at the club and keep getting his 70000+ euros a week cheque
