according to Buffons Agent, he called up barca and told them that buffon wanted to player for them. but ricky said no because is believes in valdez and thing he will be one of the best GK in the world in a few years.

i think the reason why barca didn't went for buffon is to remain the number of spanish player in the starting team as it is now.

Maybe you're being sarky, I don't know, but I would rely on VV for the immediate future, ie 2 seasons. He's fast, focussed, fit and if he makes the occasional bad mistake, which keeper doesn't. He's kept goal for the Spanish champions for two years, while Casillas, whom I admire, is used to playing in a losing team. Buffón? A good keeper but hasn't shown any sign of being a great one.

There were Abidal rumours because both Gio and Sylvinho's contracts expire next year. Sylvinho has offers from Brazil and Gio will probably go back to Feyenoord. But I highly doubt an agreement is already in place.

As for Buffon, I think I posted (maybe on the old board) an explanation by our goalkeeping coach Unzue why we didn't sign him. I don't remember the whole thing but basically his point was that Barca's keeper is required to be a 'sweeper'. He can't be a traditional goalie who is static in his box, because our defensive line plays so high up. There are very few keepers like that in the world, and that's why since we already have a home grown quality player who knows the system, we let him play.

still, you would expect barça's GK to have a little ball control at his feet no?

Funny, about a month ago when RM was after Abidal i remember Barça fans saying he`s shit, i guess he`s world class now

I reckon we should win this comfortably...with basically a first team defence, Motta in midfield, Giuly, Ezquerro and moneybags in another first team combination up front, we should be fine as long as the two youth team midfielders who get picked don't screw up majorly.
