Done deal. That's Fowler gone. Now it's just waiting to see whether it's Bellamy or Crouch that's joining him.

Lu, I can't think of someone more likely to score 20 goals in a premiership season (injury permitting) than Trez.

    Can you?

he's only had 2 x 20 goal seasons in 6 years at Juventus, and that's with match fixing

He would have got 20 goals away to Blackburn with Crouch's chances.

Trezeguet would be great in one sense. He's a world class finisher, one of the best in the world. I also think he would suit our current style of play at home, where we stretch the play. His movement off the ball is good also and, whilst he's not quick, he's like Crespo in the sense that he has that yard of pace to get off a shot in the box.

He's not a great all rounder though. He's going to drop off and beat players or get involved in play like Eto'o or Villa. He's not going to score outside the area or provide that many assists. He's just a finisher.

I'd personally rather a Villa or an Eto'o but if we can't get either of them then Trezeguet would be perfect as a pure goalscorer.

That's probably fair. He's better in the air than Van Nistlerooy (by a considerable distance) but he's probably worse with his back to goal (playing as one upfront). The slight difference would be that, whilst not the quickest, he does have just enough pace to break the offside trap. More like Van Nistlerooy circa 2001-2003 in that respect, to the current one.

Owen, he's nothing like henry, doesn't try and run with the ball, a few years ago he had great pace, but he doesn't run much now. Deadly in the area, he is incredible in the air.

What kind of a striker are you looking for actually?

I would have thought that a guy like Trez would be perfect when partnered with Kuyt he is always moving and creating openings?

Was always a 2nd striker who was great in the air. He'd only actually scored 20 goals in one season I think. His only record that was really amazing was his international one.

Nando is and was great, but as a pure finisher he's miles behind Trezgol.

Personally, like I said, I'd rather a Villa or an Eto'o. Someone with some pace who can beat their marker with a bit of skill and score from just about anywhere within 30 yards and get plenty of assists though.

If no one like that's available, then Trezgol would be great because there really is a dearth of great strikers around at the moment and I'd rather just sign a brilliant finisher for 2-3 years than an average striker with a bit of everything.

Go and buy Kun Aguero in a couple of years time then Wink

But wouldn't Villa/Eto'o get in Kuyt's way? I think that if you sell Crouch (though is still think Crouch and Kuyt is good partnership) then you should look for a poacher type player. But I guess it all depends on the midfield you are planning.. whether it will be a 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3 type thing.

Is Luca Toni in the picture? and BTW Agüero is available for €30 mill now.. his release cause isn't too high.

I don't think they'd get in his way - atleast not after they develop and understanding. They can both run in behind and stretch a defence in a way Kuyt does. They also both pull out to the flanks which Kuyt does less of. His game has been dropping deep and pulling the centreback out of position.

A poacher is great, but limited. That's why I'd prefer someone like Villa or Eto'o if possible. I'd welcome Trezeguet's signing if not though. He's only got one year left on his contract so he should be fairly cheap and we could spend big on a winger/Dani Alves to supply him and come up with moments of brilliance.

One thing that hasn't really been brought up is that Rafa always liked to use 4-2-3-1 at Valencia. That could be what he wants to do here. I know people point out that Kuyt isn't the best upfront on his own but neither was Mista. It would be just like Benitez to pick a striker with plenty of stamina who can bring his midfielders into play, something which Kuyt would definitely do.

Toni hasn't been mentioned. I'd imagine he'd be fairly expensive. Amauri at Palermo was mentioned though. Wouldn't object to him or possibly someone like Fred, but again, there's no great pace.

Aguero would be nice. Think we'll have to wait if we're going to sign him though. Shame Sad I think he'd be great if Rafa did want to play 4-2-3-1 though. Playing just off Kuyt and running into the space he vacates when he drops deep.

Just speculation at the moment. The only thing we have that's concrete to work off is the fact that Gillett has said if a quality player becomes available, we'll look into signing them. Also, Hicks has spent really big on a few players in baseball, so he's not adverse to splashing the cash if needed. He got Alex Rodriguez a $225 deal in baseball. £30m for Villa wouldn't bother him too much I don't think.
