I know he was voted as the best foriegner for Juventus by Juve fans, but with all due respect, lets not call him the best ever in Serie A...

He was never cautioned or sent off during his entire career, what a lovely guy. Leving Juve "biggest mistake of my life".

In 1997 Charles was voted 'the greatest foreign player ever in Serie A', favoured above Diego Maradona, Michel Platini, Marco Van Basten and Zinedine Zidane.

    More Likely:

    ---------------------------------Buffon--------------------------------
    Grygera --------Barzagli---- Cannavaro ------Chiellini
    ------------------Blasi--------- Zanetti ---------------------
    Marchionni ----------------------------------------------Nedved---
    -----------------------Toni/Klose------------ Delps----------------

Bench: Kovac, Balzaretti, Boumsong, Birindelli, Giannichedda, Paro, Gasbarroni, Kapo, Sali, Palladino, Bojinov, Zalayeta

It is already a very strong squad, Juve will just add in 2-3 big signings. I think a Nedved replacement will also come, not sure who. It will be interesting to see if Juve recall Miccoli.

I think we'll defo get another CM in, Lucas allegedly. Miccoli signed a new deal, hope he comes back, amazing ability.

Kovac is a rock, but there's no arguing with the combination you put.

That was a vote done in Juve's centenery year celebration by Juve fans, I would take that with a pinch of salt...

I am sure if Inter fans vote for the Best ever foriegner in Serie A, Javier Zanetti would easily win it. Doesn't make Zanetti the best foriegn player ever in Serie A, just shows the love and respect Inter fans have for him. Ditto Charles. Great player tho.

Why would you do a vote in 1997 unless its a part of juve's centenery celebrations??

Anyways, I think we all will agree that he was among the top 5 foriegners to ever play in Serie A. He and Platini will be Juve's contribution to that list, ahead of sivori.

Perhaps, but it was a Juve centenery related vote, so may not be free of bias...

IMO, there will be many contenders for this title, Serie A has seen a lot of great foriegners:

    Van Basten
    Nordahl
    Gullit
    Charles
    Platini
    Sivori
    Batistuta
    Matthaeus
    Zanetti
    Maradona
    Nyers
    Suarez
    Zidane
    Shevchenko
    Kohler

Its not an easy call... If you ask Juve fans, its Charles... for Milan fans, its Van Basten.... for Inter fans, its Zanetti... among the others, its probably Maradona... lets leave it at that...

“Off to Modena to reclaim top spot”

After spending Saturday as onlookers the Bianconeri are finally ready to return to action. Monday sees them travel to Modena for a game of vital importance, particularly after Napoli’s win this weekend which has provisionally taken them back to the top of the table. Deschamps knows what to ask from his team: “Winning would take us back to the top, but more importantly we’d extend our lead over the third placed team, Piacenza, who we play next Sunday. I don’t like playing when I know what the other teams have done, there’s always the risk of negative pressure”.

The team has been working well all week, as Deschamps confirmed: “Unlike the trip to Vicenza, this time we know the date of the game, we’ve had a lot of time to prepare for it and to get back our injured players. Particularly in defence, the situation there has improved a great deal. Boumsong’s been working with the whole squad, Zebina did well last Saturday, as did Chiellini. Finally I have choices to make and I’m able to give a rest to those players who’ve seen a lot of action. Nedved? He’s fine. He’s essential to us as the statistics demonstrate. Mentally and from the point of view of team spirit he’s perfect for the team and for the coach. His desire and hunger to win are infectious”.

At the Braglia on Saturday, Juventus are once again up against a team who have just changed coaches, with Bortolo Mutti in to replace Zoratto: “There’s been a change of coach, but I don’t think the team will change all that much – Deschamps concluded – As a team Modena like to have a go and they don’t just set themselves out to defend. That’s how they played against us earlier this season and they played well against Genoa in their last game, despite defeat. They’re an organised outfit and they deserve more points than they have right now”.

    Waft,

How do you rate Deschamps as a coach so far? Would you be happy to continue with him in Serie A next season, or would you prefer getting someone like capello (back)?

He's done a great job, by mixing class with youth, it's worked extremely well, I think he could do well in Serie A also

Bluey, this might surprise some, but I'm not overly impressed, the amount of times we have thrown away leads is quite staggering. I'll be soft on him and reserve complete judgement, as we have had an extraordinary amount of injuries in defence.

As for Capello, never! As I've said before, he is one of the "deaths of football", victory, and nothing else. His Juventus was the team I like least, awful negativity, talentless wreckers like Vieira (that isn't a dig, my feelings on him are well known), and worst of all, his disgraceful treatment of our soul and symbol Ale. I'd be devasted if he returned, he won't though.

Lippi, on the other hand . . .

So who really likes Capello? Is he simply a manager that every club gets when they're in trouble and need quick success?

I haven't really followed his career except for the last 2 years by Juve which were nullified because of the refs' help, and the total disaster he's been at Madrid.

well he won Roma the scudetto, and Milan the scudetto and CL before that. Slowly, his football has become more ugly, and his recent CL record is pretty abysmal.
