    @lionman:
It's amazing, really, how well Freiburg are doing at the moment--shame Finke is leaving at the end of the season. Otoh, might be the time for a change. It'd be great to have a direct (i.e. local) rival back in the league, though, so if either Karlsruhe or Freiburg (or BOTH Wink ) made it, I'd be more than happy. Smile

And it never fails to amuse me that Braunschwürg are not only going back down but also in last place. Twisted Evil

    @Labormaus
Freiburg's current run is really impressive. I tipped them or Lautern to finish 3rd, when I started this thread. While Lautern let me down, Freiburg still marches on, whereas Duisburg is struggling for points for weeks now. So you will probably have KSC and Freiburg back in the Bundesliga next season.
Btw, why do you dislike Braunschweig?

Sorry just found this thread Kaiserslautern are my german team. Whenever I look at their results they seem to need to pick up their away form if they are going to get promoted but time isn't on their side.

Their coach Wolfgang Wolf was linked with a move for Celtic striker Derek Riordan. I would love to see him at Kaiserslautern but I doubt he would leave especially now the fans have put pressure on Celtic to play him.

To the german posters who have seen more of kaiserslautern than me what have been their main problems this year.

Kaiserslautern sacked their coach Wolfgang Wolf a few days ago actually, because of the negative results in the last few weeks. There are rumours that former Kaiserslautern player Ciriaco Sforza is going to be the next manager. Sforza is managing a Swiss club these days.

    some good news on 1860:
Striker Berkant Göktan has agrred to a new 2-year-contract until 30.6.09 Very Happy
Meanwhile, Markus Schroth will return from Nürnberg to 1860 for free. The 32-year old striker has a contract until 30.6.09 plus an option for 1 more year. In addition, it was agreed that Schroth would be offered a post at 1860 after his carrer end. Very Happy

Finally, the players will contribute to the action "Für die Zukunft der Löwen": If they do not reach 7th place at least, they will offer 1% of their salary.

I'm really deligthed at these news. Markus Schroth was our dream player. He should still be good enough for more than 10 goals and we badly needed a striker who is good with headers. Göktan recently showed some class on the attacking right side in our new 4-5-1 sytem.

Our only doubtful player is Vucicevic, who seems set to leave. However, it seems he thinks of himself as too good. So far, he has not found the club (and money) that fits him. It is getting likelier he will stay with us.
We have a really good squad for next season now. I think we will be able to fight seriously for promotion.

    games on matchday 30:

    20.04.2007
    1860 München - 1. FC Köln
    1. FC Kaiserslautern - Kickers Offenbach
    Erzgebirge Aue - Rot-Weiss Essen

    22.04.2007
SpVgg Greuther Fürth - SC Paderborn
    MSV Duisburg - Eintracht Braunschweig
SC Freiburg - Carl Zeiss Jena
    SpVgg Unterhaching - TuS Koblenz
    Wacker Burghausen - FC Augsburg

    23.04.2007
FC Hansa Rostock - Karlsruher SC

1860 has some problems: Adler will miss the game with a flu, L Bender is just recovering from a flu, Thorandt is suspended, Wolff has a torn muscle fibre and Vucicevic will probably miss the remaining season with an injury to his left meniscus.
I#m not really sure, whether Vucicevic's injury isn't a blessing in disguise. While we will miss, there is nothing to play for this season anymore and we can test playing without him, should he leave (though today, Milchraum who will aslo leave, replaces him).
Today it is rumored that Daniel Bierofka will return on a loan from Stuttgart, as a replacement for Milchraum and Vucicevic. I only hope there is no deal with Marcel Schäfer involved, as VfB was interested in signing him.

    1860 München - 1. FC Köln 3:1
    Göktan 6, 68, Ghvinianidze 59 / Broich 41

    1. FC Kaiserslautern - Kickers Offenbach 4:0
    S. Müller 33, Ziemer 37, Simpson 47, Bohl 82 / -
    sent off: Rehm(Offenbach), 19 2Y

    Erzgebirge Aue - Rot-Weiss Essen 0:0

Nice win against Köln, which lifts to 7th place. Göktan showed some class again today, he has scored 6 goals in 9 games now. I'm a little bit surprised there were only 38000 spectators in the AA, I had exspected more. Köln was real $h!t, Helmes by far their best player (fading in the 2nd half like the whole team though)

Only 2 goals in the first half, but the second half made up for it. Very interesting and surprising results that make things exciting again:

SpVgg Greuther Fürth - SC Paderborn 3:0
    Cidimar 63, Kleine 71, Reisinger 79 / -
    Achenbach /Fürth) misses pen 50
    sent off: Bröker (Paderborn) 81
MSV Duisburg - Eintracht Braunschweig 0:0

SC Freiburg - Carl Zeiss Jena 1:3
    Mohamad 62 / Voigt 39, 62, pen, Werner 90+1
Lomaia saves pen by Iashvili (Freiburg), 53

SpVgg Unterhaching - TuS Koblenz 1:0
    Lechleiter 58 /-
    sent off: Tieku(Koblenz) 2Y, 37

Wacker Burghausen - FC Augsburg 0:2
    - / Lawaree 40, 69, pen

Duisburg and Freiburg both slip which means Duisburg, Fürth Freiburg and Klautern are within 3 points again fighting for 3rd place. Should Karlsruhe win against Rostock, it would leave Rostock only 4 points in front of 4th place.
On the other end of the table, Jena and Haching had vital victories today, which means Offenbach, Koblenz, Haching and Jena are within 1 point to find the odd one that gets relegated. Meanwhile, Braunschweig are now officially relegated.

I was also really surprised by Freiburg's loss, much more then by Duisburg's draw. Of course they had to lose again after such an excellent run, but Jena Shocked . At least things are getting interested again.
We're only 9 points behind. If you consider we lost against Braunschweig, Jena and Haching, it makes you really wonder what could have been...

Koblenz has sacked coach Milan Sasic. After losing 5 of their last 6 games Koblenz is only 5 goals ahead of a relegation place. In their next match against 1860 Münchwn co-trainer Uwe Koschinat will be in charge. A successor has not been found yet, but there is talk about Uwe Rapolder.

    Some news from the Unterhaus:

Uwe Rapolder has become new coach at Koblenz.

German international Patrick Helmes will play in Köln next season and then go to Leverkusen.

Volker Finke has allegedly threatened that 6 players would leave the club should he not continue his job at Freiburg. Vinke will be replaced after 16 years with Robin Dutt. Meanwhile, the report has been denied.

    games finished:

    Sykora 17, 39, Fröhlich 34 / Grlic 69, 86, Lavric 82

SC Paderborn - Erzgebirge Aue 1:0

Eintracht Braunschweig - Wacker Burghausen 3:1
    Brinkmann 23, Leozinho 65, 73 / Toleski 58

Duisburg failing again (I could have told you), while Jena collects a vital point against relegation, which feels more like losing two points after leading 3:0. Burghausen with a very costly loss to already relegated Braunschweig, which makes relagation for them only a mere formality.

If Lautern wins against Augsburg this Sunday, they are 1 point behind 3rd place. They will play against Braunschweig, Jena and Köln, so there is a chance they will make it. Fürth and Freiburg can draw level on points wih Duisburg, should they win on Sunday. Rostock might even get involved. At the moment they are 1 point ahead of Duisburg with a game in hand, but they still have to play at the AllianzArena, so maybe they drop points as well.

    Rot-Weiss Essen - FC Hansa Rostock 0:0

The match had to be stopped early on in the second half because some Rostock fans set up a fire. Rostock and Essen will likely be fined.

The result makes things even more interesting than before: Rostcok are now only 2 points ahead of Duisburg, Fürth and Freiburg with two of the four getting promoted. Essen on the other hand gain some new hope for staying in the 2. Bundesliga as they are only two points behind Offenbach and Jena.

    0 : 1 - Matej Mavric (4.)
    0 : 2 - Johannes Rahn (70.)
    0 : 3 - Anel Dzaka (74.)

After Freiburg hat loston Friday, both Rostock and Fürth followed suit against teams in deep relagation battle. Duisburg has a big point tomorrow against Köln.
1860 was the only team in the upper half of the table to win its match!. A good revenge against Unterhaching, who had humiliated us in the first leg. Haching is our traditionell bogey team, so I'm rather pleased. Haching are now 2 points behind 14th place andstill face Fürth and Rostock, so they fight an uphill struggle.
Finally, I think this must be the easiest season ever to earn promotion. It's really sad we wasted at least 9 points against minor teams. Otherwise we would be on 2nd position now. But as it is, we will face a much thougher challenge next season to finally gain Bundesliga status again.

table after matchday 32 bar the Duisburg - Köln game

    1 Karlsruher SC 32 20 7 5 66 : 37 67
    2 FC Hansa Rostock 32 14 14 4 44 : 28 56
    3 MSV Duisburg 31 14 12 5 59 : 37 54
    ---------------------------------------------------------
    4 SpVgg Greuther Fürth 32 16 6 10 51 : 35 54
    5 SC Freiburg 32 15 9 8 50 : 39 54
    6 1. FC Kaiserslautern 32 13 12 7 45 : 31 51
    7 FC Augsburg 32 13 10 9 41 : 30 49
    8 1860 München 32 14 5 13 44 : 45 47
    9 Erzgebirge Aue 32 13 5 14 43 : 44 44
    10 SC Paderborn 32 11 9 12 31 : 33 42
    11 1. FC Köln 31 11 8 12 42 : 45 41
    12 TuS Koblenz 32 10 8 14 34 : 42 38
    13 Rot-Weiß Essen 32 8 10 14 33 : 36 34
    14 Kickers Offenbach 32 9 7 16 39 : 56 34
    ----------------------------------------------------
    15 Carl Zeiss Jena 32 8 10 14 37 : 54 34

    18 Eintracht Braunschweig 32 4 10 18 19 : 46 22

Burghausen are now basically relegated with 6 points and 8 goals behind. Only an injury-time equaliser against Jena let them with at least theoretical chances to avoid relegation.

    MSV Duisburg : 1. FC Köln 1 : 3 (0 : 1)
    0 : 1 - Novakovic (41.)
    1 : 1 - Grlic (54.)
    1 : 2 - Helmes (63.)
    1 : 3 - Novakovic (82.)
Under the eyes of Joachim Löw Patrick Helmes had a rather quiet night but was on fire when it mattered with one goal and one assist.
Amazingly, all four teams fighting for relegation lost their matches. 1860 was the only team of the upper half of the table to win their game. As apparantly nobody wants to gain promotion, the DFL should rethink and award promotion to those who are worthy and willing. Wink
