Table with 1 matchday to go:

    1 Karlsruher SC 33 66 : 40 67
    2 Hansa Rostock 33 46 : 29 59
    3 MSV Duisburg 33 63 : 40 57
    -----------------------------------------------
    4 SC Freiburg 33 53 : 39 57
    5 SpVgg Greuther Fürth 33 52 : 37 54
    6 1. FC Kaiserslautern 33 46 : 32 52
    7 FC Augsburg 33 42 : 30 52
    8 TSV 1860 München 33 45 : 47 47
    9 1. FC Köln 33 47 : 48 45
    10 Erzgebirge Aue 33 44 : 46 44
    11 SC Paderborn 33 31 : 36 42
    12 TuS Koblenz 33 36 : 43 41
    13 Rot-Weiss Essen 33 34 : 37 35
    14 SpVgg Unterhaching 33 32 : 46 35
    -------------------------------------------------
    15 Kickers Offenbach 33 41 : 58 35
    16 FC Carl Zeiss Jena 33 38 : 55 35
    17 Wacker Burghausen 33 37 : 62 29
    18 Eintracht Braunschweig 33 19 : 47 22

Fürth are now 3 points and 8 goals behind 3rd place, so they are out of the race for pormotion, while Rostock, Duisburg and Freiburg battle it out. Freiburg cannot achieve promotion out ouf their own because of their clearly inferior goal difference compared to Duisburg. A draw may be enough to see Rostock go through, however if Freiburg wins by 3 goals, Rostock must win to gain promotion.

Thanks to some last-minute goals, we have a very close race at the bottom of the table. Essen, Unterhaching, Offenbach and Jena are all level on points, with two of them remaining in the 2. Bundesliga and two going down to the Regionalliga. Essen have the far supperior goal difference, while Unterhaching is 3 goals ahead of Offenbach and Jena.

    last matchday 20.05.2007:

    1. FC Kaiserslautern - 1. FC Köln
SpVgg Greuther Fürth - Karlsruher SC
    Wacker Burghausen - SC Paderborn
    Kickers Offenbach - Eintracht Braunschweig
    Erzgebirge Aue - 1860 München
FC Hansa Rostock - SpVgg Unterhaching
FC Augsburg - Carl Zeiss Jena
    MSV Duisburg - Rot-Weiss Essen
    SC Freiburg TuS Koblenz

So we have to teams fighting for promotion meeting two teams fighting to stay in the league. Of the teams at the bottom, Offenbach has the weakest opponent on paper, while Essen and Unterhaching have the strongest.

Actually, last year's figures were much higher. The average was 41.902

As to the AA, that is a can of worms.
Many fans still want us to return to the old Grünwalderstadion for the sake of tradition, but that is out of question. It is simply to old and small. Income and maintenance are not profitable any more. As a matter of fact, the city of München wants to tear it down in a couple of years.
So it only a question about the Olympiastadion and the AA.
The AA is very expansive for a 2. Bundesliga team. it nearly drove us into bankruptcy, and even now we have only very little money to spend. tHankfully , we have to pay less after next season, so there is a little more room for investments then. In medium-term, we have to play in the Bundesliga again, the earlier, the better.
On the other hand, the AA was very attractive to fans. The number of spectators would have been significantly lower in the Olympiastadion, so we have a much higher income in return. In the end, it was a once in a lifetime decision we had to make. 1860 will never be able to build such a stadium on their own, so it was the time to decide whether to go together with Bayern or not and with the unique opportunity of the WC, there would have been no other chance any time soon.

In the end, I am in favour of the AA, but if we won't get promoted in the foresseable future, we may have to rethink about it.

    @lionman

Do you know how much money 1860 can spend compared to BMG and Cologne next season?

Normally teams like 1860, BMG and Cologne have to play in the first division. Maybe we should extend the Bundesliga to 20 teams.

After Schroth and Göktan signed their new contracts, we have no more money left at the moment to extend the contract with Vucicevic, or to sell Bieroffka, unless we find a sponsor. This is why Vucicevic will likely go to Köln as they can offer much more money.
I don't expect any new signings any more, even though we would need a left winger to replace Milchraum and/ or Vucicevic, and a good defender wouldn't do any harm either. As long as we have no injuries or suspensions, we should be fine, but our bench lacks some quality. This is why it's hard to tell where we are heading to. I expect half the league fighting for promotion, qualitywise at least. If we are lucky, we may have a word to say as well, but we can't afford to waste any points, that's for sure. Our primary task is to sort out our denfensive problems as we simply concieve way too much for a top 6 place. If Göktan can keep up his great form and with Schroth at help, we should be able to produce enough goals for the time being, though we will mostly have narrow wins, scoring more than 2 goals should be very rare, as our midfield is not really dangerous.

A little bit off topic but with regard to 1860

    DFB-Junioren(u19)-Pokalfinale
    1860 München - VfL Wolfsburg 2:1 (0:1)
    0:1 Meier (11., pen)
    1:1 Eberlein (50.)
    2:1 Hosiner (90.)
    sent off (2Y): Riemer (VfL/ 55.)

VfL: Klepold – Schulze, Schlimpert, Meier, Celikyurt – Reiche, Maek, Neumann (86. Kahlert) - Riemer, Brendel (65. Anacleto), Evljuskin.

1860: Rössl – Mayr, Jungwirth, Wittek, Schick – Stahl, Eberlein – Steiner, Knauer – Hosiner, Lechthaler.

1860 hat to do without the Benders, Gebhart, Baumgartlinger and Schäffler, who will all play tomorrow in the u23 against Bayern.
The highlighted Evljuskin and Eberlein should be the most prominent players among the two teams - they are both u19 internationals. Eberlein played already some games in our first team.
