Only some pro-van Basten Journalists, Johan Cruijff and KNVB fromtman Kessler are still supporting Van Basten. Most of the people are criticising/"HATE" him!
You are right it is not the same as with Advocaat he got death threats affter one particular substitution "Bosvelt instead of Robben". He had to leave the country after the "terrible" Euro 2004...
Three reasons why the situation around Van Basten is a bit more relaxed is
1 Advocaat was always angry with the press. Van Basten is cooler.
2 Van Basten was a Legend Advocaat certainly NOT
3 These are just qualifying games!
BTW. I support him up and till the Euro's. We gave him the chance in 2004, we knew he was inexperienced so now we have to give him the chance to make mistakes and try to learn from it.
The KNVB said from the beginning to Van Basten. "The WC is not the most important because we have to make a total different squad. At Euro 2008 you have to do well (win it)"
I also stand for more 100% behind that!
