We all know that Paul Scholes is a great player. But next Wednesday, Scholes could potentially miss out on playing in the Champions League Final for the second time in his career if he picks up yellow card against Milan and Man Utd win the tie.

    I fear 1999 all over again ..

Manchester United have to play him .. and if they do progress and he picks up a yellow card, the absolute shame.

It depends how the game goes

Last 5 mins, if Man United are look likely they will progress and Scholes has not been booked, sub him and then ...

Shut Up Shop , park the bus in front of the Goal Ale ok

I think he will - he ALMOST got one in the first leg.

The guys a nutcase, surely he realises that he's $h!t at tackling. You think he'd just not bother and instead stay on his feet and track

Having seen the guy on saturday - i am a late convert and finally saw the 'BRAIN' and 'GENIUS' that is Pau Scholes.

He thinks way ahead of EVERY player on the pitch - sees things like ahead of EVERY player - and knows when to release the ball.

He DOES NOT need to tackle - with his game.

He should be told as was The King (Cantona) leave the tackling to the likes of Fletcher and Co.

Hope he doesnt get booked - i am confident he wont.

it's such a cruel way to miss what's likely the biggest match of your career. particularly since some yellows are so soft (e.g. evra's in the 1st leg).

Depends how the game is going, if we get an early goal, he really should be smart enough not to be stupid. If we need a goal then he has to go for it and if he gets booked he gets booked. Obviously you don't want him to get booked, but i don't think it would be a disaster.

You could just put fletcher next to carrick, and play two strikers. But Ronaldo now he is also on a yellow, and because the first one was clearly not a yellow, that's usually when they come back to haunt you. And him and park being out really would be a disaster.

I'd be very worried about Ronaldo - if you have a final to play without ronaldo then you're effectively halving your chances.

However good a player Scholes is, Ronaldo would be far more missed

i think it will depend on where SAF plays Scholes.

In the 2nd half agaist Milan on Tues, Scholes was playing alot closer to Rooney and he didn't look like getting booked.

I thought Kaka was fortunate not to get booked again, same with Gattusso along with Scholes. Then he books Evra for nothing, which was strange.

I fear Scholes may get booked, as it will be a stretched game. If he plays in fear of getting yellow carded he we will lose a huge part of his game. We need Fletcher and Carrick to really perform so scholes isnt put in a situation were he has to foul a player.

Giggs, Scholes and Ronaldo are all on yellow cards, if they missed the final, it would all over if we got to the final.

Sucks that players should be banned from finals for yellow cards for fucks sake. I hate the whole rule. The whole point is two teams going at it 100% and yet UEFA want them to fanny around worrying about tackles. f@ck OFF! ok

i agree but if players knew they couldnt lose out on the final they might just be making alot of freekicks. i think uefa should look at it after the games has been played and decide if a player deserved a yellow or not.

Post by Batman Sun Apr 29, 2007 11:01 am

Sir Alex Ferguson has warned Paul Scholes that one mistimed tackle could rob him of an appearance at a European final for a second time.

The midfield star missed Manchester United's UEFA Champions League win over Bayern Munich in 1999 on account of suspension and he heads into Wednesday's semi-final against Milan with a booking hanging over him.

Scholes has already served a suspension in Europe this term and Ferguson is fearful that one rash tackle could cost his player dear.

"You cannot send a player out in the semi-final of the European Cup and tell him not to tackle," said Ferguson.

"But Paul has to make sure he doesn't get booked. If he stays on his feet and tackles properly, he won't have a problem.

"In Europe, they just don't accept sliding in. That is where he gets all his bookings.

"We accept it in our country when he slides in but they don't look at it the same way in Europe. It is not filthy or violent conduct, it is all about interpretation."

Ferguson does not feel Milan's players will look to get Scholes booked.

"The second leg would be in progress and one of us would be going to the final, so I do not see any benefit for them in that," he added.

"But Milan don't seem like that kind of side to me anyway. There was nothing like that in the last game we played against them and on Tuesday there was nothing like that either.

"If anyone deserves to play in a final it is Paul and we are all hoping that is the case.

"If he keeps his calm about the game I am sure he will be all right."

    Scholes puts the team first

Paul Scholes will not let the possibility of missing a second Champions League final cloud his approach to Wednesday’s semi final second leg clash with AC Milan at the San Siro.

The 32-year-old midfielder missed 1999’s European final in Barcelona through suspension. Now, one booking away from a heartbreaking repeat of that scenario, everyone is hoping that, should United overcome Milan, Scholes will be available to take on either Liverpool or Chelsea in Athens.

But, for the straight-talking Salfordian, it is not an issue and he is solely focused on getting United there above all else.

"I won't let the bookings situation bother me,” he said. “It’s just another game and another chance to get to a Champions League final."

There is seemingly no time to be mawkish about his predicament. "I don't think of it being more important to get through because of what happened to me last time,” he adds.

"It is a major tournament, one that every team in Europe wants to be involved in. It still feels the same as the semi-final was in 1999. We all want to get there and we all want to win it if we do."
