I've been absent from this forum for a long time, but now I'm reaching the conclusion that in fact Alves is underrated here.

For a RB he is a poor defender , very good attacking but Sevilla seems to base their team for him , he seems a playmaker at times ,suspect defending that is why overrated.

Who rates Carrick except , what makes him overrated?
Vidic gets overrated and with that people underrate Herr Ferdinand.

No united fans once said, every united player was better than every AC Milan player. So how can they be overatted if no one said they were miles better than the opposition. We beat them at home and Scholes, Ronaldo and Rooney all showed they were good players. The return leg our defence didnt turn up, but the first leg showed the attacking players, were good.

Before the Roma game all we heard was how Totti was better than any united player, Mexes and Chivu were better than Ferdinand and Vidic, Mancini better than Ronaldo. 7 goals later, they stopped making the comparisons.

roma's players are not really overrated. some of them are world cup winners not so long ago FFS. totti is probably underrated because most of us don't get to see him every week and think he is $h!t

It wasn't just Pierre but every Seri A fan, seriously I have never seen such fanaticism before. They talked about them like they were the Brazil 1970 team.

I am sure they are good players, but overrated doesnt mean they are bad players, just not as good as others make out and considering they got trounced 7-1 they clearly arent as good as they said they were, thus they are/were overrated on this board.

To be fair Bluenine you were ok and you said Roma are inconsistent and didnt say every Roma player, was better than there united opponent. It wasn't aimed at you.

I dont think I have seen a team who are second in a league get hyped up so much before and a team top of a league get so underrated. The Mancini better than Ronaldo comments were the final straw. If I could be bothered to go back and bump all the pre match threads it would make interesting reading.

Regarding Totti, I will say it again; me saying he is overratted doesnt mean, I think he is a bad player, just that he is not as good as some on the message board make out. If you look at my original posts I say C Ronaldo, who I rate highly is overrrated on this message board.

I think what makes this board interesting and almost unique is that for every player that gets overhyped, there is someone else shooting them down. I honestly can't think of any players at present for which this ying and yang doesn't occur, with the exception of possibly Kaka

May say Giggs actually, not heard a bad word said about him all season, even though he's had some real shockers.

If Kaka goes in visible in the final

It is good though, I know plenty of boards (esp club boards) where some players are untouchable and everyone thinks that either they're world class or they're $h!t.

Take the cl out of the picture, and Kaka hasnt had the greatest of seasons at all.

But no-ones been saying he's world class or anything either. He's rated as a top class player that's in the twilight of his career -which is about right

I think its the Seri A fans, who say he hasnt been that great in the league and Zlatan and Totti have been the the star players in Italy.

I think the English posters rate him the highest and the rest not so highly.

I think you missed me point. I meant that last year, Ronaldo was underhpyed and this season he;s been overhyped. If anything, since the Milan game he's become underhyped again as people seem to think that on the big stage he cannot produce

And herein lies the paradox, because as soon as more than one person begins to mention the same player, they are no longer underrated anymore.

I'd say Benni McCarthy in England, he's an ace player but doesnt get much attention in the media.

What about SWP? He gets plenty loads of stick on here, yet when given the chance to play regularly has proven to be a quality player in my eyes. Fabulous crosser of the ball, doesnt get much mention especially considering the criticism of the likes of Lennon and Pennant in this department

His first touch is very shoddy though, on confidence there are few better wingers out there than SWP, but we haven't seen a truly confident SWP for 2 seasons now.

Yes, SWP's crossing is better - considering he's got 5-6 years on Lennon

However, Pennant's crossing is in another class. One of the best in Europe, IMO.
