Moutinho signs 6 year deal Empty Moutinho signs 6 year deal

Post by Luso Sat May 26, 2007 3:17 pm

Highly rated João Moutinho committed his immediate future to Sporting yesterday by signing a six year deal with the club that will keep him around until 2013.

At the age of 20 Moutinho is one of the sub captins and with this new deal becomes the highest paid player at the club. Sporting views Moutinho as the future of the club, wanting to use him as an example for other youths at Sporting to follow due to his excellent attitude on and off the pitch, consitency (missed 1 match of Sporting's last 110 matches- and that was through suspension) and obvious talent.

I don't know how long he'll be at the club, but a player like him with his attitude can never overstay his welcome.

With the ability to play in any position across the midfield, he'll be making 1.5 M Euros with this new deal. His new wage will putt him well above Sporting's wage cap, something only previously achieved by Liedson.

Good news for your club, a very promising player and someone who will be a very good asset to have in years to come.

What is the Sporting Lisbon wage cap?

From what little I've seen, he looks a very good player, and wouldn't look out of place in any of Europes top sides. Good news for Sporting and for Moutinho. He can continue to develop and progress as a player there, and if/when a 'bigger' club comes in for him, Sporting will be quids in.

I heard he was a DM, but to me he looks like a CM? Care to clarify that Luso?

What is the Sporting Lisbon wage cap?

Apparently it's 75K Euros per month...

I'm not entirerly sure what's going on though, as I've heard Ricardo, who is supposed to be on 75K has a gradual increase every season.

When you further consider that Liedson, Moutinho and soon enough Nani are all openly said to be on wages above this 75 per month, I'm not sure just what kind of cap it is...

In general, I think they want to limit the wages to this number, but they're willing to make exceptions for players that are seen as vital to maintaining the squad's quality.

It's a good contract for Moutinho; his star rises that much more and he's making some pretty decent cash. I think it's the way the club should be going; I don't mind paying big wages to home grown talent that's actually worth the money...as opposed to guys coming into the club that don't pull their weight but demand big wages.

In the end, Moutinho is actually cheaper as we haven't paid a transfer for him right, he's one of ours.

Sporting has him down on the site as a DM, but he actually plays more as a AM then anything else.

The thing with Moutinho he does both equally well, so there are those that refer to him in both senses. I have actually said that he's more influential on the team as a number 6 however, with doninha agreeing with me... so it really depends on who you speak to. He's been touted by some as PT's future number 10.

He came into the team as a DM though, filling in for Custódio who is now apparently on his way out of the club. However, his offensive game being what it is, he's been pushed forward with Veloso now the holding mid.

Having Moutinho in the starting 11 is great because you know he can move anywhere in a diamond formation and not miss a beat.

Imo he's Deco's replacement in the national side. When I saw him play in Deco's place, Portugal didn't miss a beat.

He did very well against Belgium in the last qualification match.

He played a big part in opening up that match.

He's the most Scholes like player I have seen and there is where I hope he will end up.
