Barton signs for Newcastle !

Im so disappointed with this deal. Ive said it in the other threads, but Barton is such an immoral, nasty individual on all levels that its hard to have any respect for the club now we have bought him. Its the worst transfer we have made in my lifetime. And the fact he is getting paid so much per week only adds a ridiculousness, rubs salt into the wound.

His football ability is a side point, but as for that I dont think hes up to much, and is miles away from being a player that can take us to the top four - which is, ultimately, what the fans want longer term.

As far as Im concerned, it virtually ruins Allardyce considering the lack of class and morals that it shows. I also cant accept that hes not largely to blame for the wages we are offering - he obviously wants to bring him in, the club are simply trying to make that happen as best they can, and I wouldnt be surprised if Fat Sam was taking a few thousand per week on the side as part of Bartons deal.

More importantly and seriously, barring a huge turnaround in Bartons character - such a turnaround as would almost need amount to him giving all his wages to charity, to him being a model professional, and a silent one, on and off the pitch - whatever Newcastle do from this point is worthless, because it involves too much that is impossible to like or respect, because the starting point is an immoral one. Its impossible for me to be fully behind a team with Barton in it.

Im happy to continue taking the moral high ground. Every thing may well have a purpose, but stabbing people in the eye with a cigarette to me seems a clear deviation from that purpose. Its not as if I think Barton is irredeemable as a person, but at the moment he has acted in such a way a number of times and shown no real remorse, no intention to change, but rather continually acts with arrogance, hypes himself up, criticises other people. Hes a disgusting individual. And as such hes impossible to support at the moment, and makes the club appear without class and morals, especially so when considering how much hes going to get paid.

He's not that bad, he hasn't raped anyone as far as i know, he's no a paedo. Young men get in trouble sometimes and they grow out of it, it's normal.

The papers are saying Barton is only on 45k(i know, it's still too much), the 70k a week thing was just a vicious rumour by the looks of things.

Apparently he turned down a 73k a week offer from West Ham.

Joey Barton has turned down a better offer from West Ham to become Sam Allardyce's controversial first signing at Newcastle United.

The 24-year-old, who won his first England cap against Spain in February, had a medical in Newcastle yesterday after turning down the £73,000-a-week offer from West Ham, which is almost £1million a year more than the deal Allardyce offered.

Allardyce hopes his second arrival will be Mark Viduka, having edged ahead of Portsmouth, West Ham and Birmingham in the race to sign the Australian from Middlesbrough, who are keen to hold on to the striker.

Barton will cost Newcastle £5.5m, a figure which triggered a release clause forcing Manchester City to let the player talk to other clubs.

Although Everton indicated an early interest in signing the Liverpool-born player, only Newcastle and West Ham matched the figure needed to sign the scandal-prone midfielder.

Former Bolton boss Allardyce, who has previously coped with a series of football bad boys, is confident he can tame Barton's wild side.

That deterred many clubs from gambling on a player who leaves City following a training ground clash which left team-mate Ousmane Dabo needing hospital treatment for head injuries.

The Newcastle manager is anxious to tie up Viduka, who is out of contract at the Riverside Stadium.

Like Barton, the Australia captain is also ready to snub West Ham, who have offered him £65,000-a-week over three years.

Although reports of Newcastle clinching the deal appear premature, they are favourites to sign the 31-year-old, who is keen to stay in his Harrogate home.

In addition, Allardyce remains confident he can take Bolton's outofcontract Israel defender Tal Ben Haim to St James' Park, despite interest from Chelsea.

He is also keen on Paris St-Germain's Czech defender David Rozehnal.

You can't moan at Ben Haim, Barton and Viduka for £5.5 million.

Hearing that he might be on £45,000 a week rather than £70,000 pacifies me a little. Its still obviously a huge amount, but it puts him in accord with the first team rather than making him one of our highest few earners and so, in theory, one of our biggest players. Like I say, I dont think hes evil or irredeemable at all, I just dont think the club has a good record with such players, I think his record is the worst we have had at the club, and, as yet, Im far from convinced he will come good on or off the pitch. Money wise, making a £2million plus profit on him from the Parker deal is good business, and hes made at least some right noises today, though thats never hard to do. Overall, I just wish the club would give us more players to really be proud of, both in terms of class and morals off the pitch, and in terms of talent on it.

Im reading that the Rozehnal deal is looking likely, and Id be pleased with this. Id be delighted with Ben Haim too, though I havent heard anything much at all to suggest that is progressing.

I think you have to hold onto the fact the Fat Sam seems to have turned around unruly players like Diouf. Taking that into consideration, I think you can at least expect professionalism on the pitch and training ground. However, whether he manages to stay out of jail for off the itch incidents is another question.

Ofcourse his agent spoke to them, his agent was probably in contact with them before they even made a bid. Barton himself might not have spoken to West Ham though.

Listen coater, as i've said before - he might thrive if a really good DM is brought in to partner him. Butt and Barton will be mediocre though.

He's not, he's on 45k a week. The 70k was just an internet rumour by the looks of things.

Apparently(the local ragie west ham fan will jump all over this) West Ham offered him 70k a week.

I can't see the logic in signing Newcastle signing Barton myself however i would trust Big Sam if i were a Newcastle fan

No we never...his agent said he or Barton hadn't spoke to us...now get used to it...or go to the papers and call him a liar

If West Ham made a bid for Barton with out even speaking to his agent then i'm a monkeys uncle. The agent will have been in contact with West Ham alot to keep them up to date with the situation, an agent wouldn't totally ignore a possible suiter.

Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed the club are close to signing Mark Viduka, whilst he also admits an interest in Tal Ben Haim.

The Middlesbrough striker is out-of-contract at The Riverside, but the Australian has shunned an offer to stay at Boro as well as other offers from Premiership and continental clubs.

Viduka is set to sign a three-year deal on Tyneside, to the delight of Allardyce.

"Mark is almost in the bag," Allardyce told the club's official website.

"It's been difficult because he has been on holiday, but we're nearly there.

"We hope to sort out a medical next week and then that will be done."

Allardyce also admitted that he was ready to make an offer to former charge Ben Haim - who is also out-of-contract at his ex-employers Bolton.

"Yes, I'm interested in Tal Ben Haim, he's a free agent and hopefully available," he said.

"He has got three or four years of experience in the Premiership and I know him inside out.

"We had a good working relationship, we grew in the Premiership together and I'm very interested in working with him again."

Viduka deal is done, Ben Haim is supposedly close, as is Rozehnal. Just a fullback or two, a sale of the deadwood and Cr@p (Emre, Luque, etc.) and Newcastle is set.

Ben Haim would be a great signing for the Toon.

Him and Taylor would make a decent partnership IMO

I hope Sam is planning on buying a partner for Barton aswell.
