His football ability is a side point, but as for that I dont think hes up to much, and is miles away from being a player that can take us to the top four - which is, ultimately, what the fans want longer term.
As far as Im concerned, it virtually ruins Allardyce considering the lack of class and morals that it shows. I also cant accept that hes not largely to blame for the wages we are offering - he obviously wants to bring him in, the club are simply trying to make that happen as best they can, and I wouldnt be surprised if Fat Sam was taking a few thousand per week on the side as part of Bartons deal.
More importantly and seriously, barring a huge turnaround in Bartons character - such a turnaround as would almost need amount to him giving all his wages to charity, to him being a model professional, and a silent one, on and off the pitch - whatever Newcastle do from this point is worthless, because it involves too much that is impossible to like or respect, because the starting point is an immoral one. Its impossible for me to be fully behind a team with Barton in it.
