Well I will make sure you get the first option, but lets face it if Barca won the league, Gio would have stayed probably.

Nice to have him back though, we are 100 years in 2008 so lets hope nick the title!

Hopefully whenever we meet for official negotiations, we can insist upon that first option

He needs to mature first, but his greedy manager thinks different. I personally think he would be a hit in the EPL. But I think players like him will suit almost everywhere.

He's definitely perfect for the Premiership. I posted in the U-21 tourney thread as well - he has defensive capabilities to track back, is very English-like in that he gets the ball, beats his man, then puts in a (fantastically shaped) cross that any target man would love, and has some skills and pace and strength too.

already downed 2 large whiskies after hearing the news & went looking for a place to bet before we sign Makaay, but couldn't find any.

Hmmm Drenthe as LW? I rather have his power on the midfield. And in this squad there is no room got Bahia, a defender that gets 66 goals behind him doesnt deserve a second chance imo

had to put somebody there until we sign somebody. Guzzie could play leftwinger in 433 too.

Still think that Hofland will be a decent signing, kinda weird that Adriaanse didnt want to come....with these posibilities I guess he wanted to buy the players himself.

Yep Hofland would improve our team.

Tough start indeed, but I'm glad it's a stadium with enough awayseats. If there's 1 thing I hate it's starting away v a small club and being unable to go to the match.

This will be Gio's 17th (yes SEVENTEENTH) season with Feyenoord. He joined us in 1982 (aged 7) and stayed until 1998.

He was under contract with Feyenoord (i.e. loaned out to RKC) when he played there.

Today Gio will sign a 3 year deal.

RR: Makaay bijna van Feyenoord



Met de komst van Giovanni van Bronckhorst is een transfer van Roy Makaay volgens Radio Rijnmond ook dichterbij gekomen. De aanvaller van Bayern München is in hoofdlijnen akkoord met Feyenoord voor een contract voor 3 jaar, maar wacht nog even op Spaanse belangstelling. Feyenoord moet nog tot overeenstemming komen met Bayern München, dat eerder al aangaf dat Makaay mag vertrekken als Klose komt. Die tekende gisteren voor 4 jaar bij Bayern.

Volgens Radio Rijnmond wil Feyenoord op zeer korte termijn nog meer toeslaan. De club hoopt nog deze week Danny Koevermans en Kevin Hofland te kunnen presenteren als nieuwe aanwinsten, aldus de zender.

Ahhh Hofland would be good, but Danny Koevermans is not good enough to join our glorious champion team He will be a decent sub though.

Het nieuwe Feyenoord krijgt steeds meer vorm. De laatste plooien moeten nog worden gladgestreken, maar ook Kevin Hofland is al op weg naar Rotterdam.
'We hebben het nog niet zwart op wit staan', bevestigt Wolfsburg-trainer Felix Magath in Kicker de aanstaande transfer. 'Maar zoals het er nu naar uit ziet, zullen we er met Feyenoord uitkomen. Ik heb Kevin al gezegd dat we zijn verzoek kunnen inwilligen.'
De 28-jarige Hofland wordt in Rotterdam medisch gekeurd. Als die keuring geen problemen oplevert, wordt de zevenvoudig international een dezer dagen in De Kuip gepresenteerd.
Feyenoord en Hofland waren er al uit. Maar de afkoopsom die VfL Wolfsburg vroeg voor het nog een jaar lopende contract, leek de overgang te frustreren.
