Hardest game first for Liverpool, they win, they walk it, if they don't this'll be a tricky little group.

In this game Rafa will take anything except a loss. So defend first then keep Torres as lone striker with Kuyt/Crouch to link up/knock down depending on his mood.

Just like last year they had their first game away to PSV (first game away to toughest oponent then as well), Rafa gladly settled with a draw. A loss would be starting the group on the wrong foot.

Arbeloa at left-back to keep an eye on Quaresma when he's on that side. Probably Mascherano for the away leg (and Sissoko for the home leg) to man-mark and double up with the fullback on whichever side the ball is.

Crouching arent you a bit nervous that your star striker is inexperienced at this level and wont be ready for at least a year. So it appears your problems from last years final havent been resolved as you bought an expensive striker that has never scored in the CL; even inexperienced players like Nani have more goals than him. Torres is like a god among men. One Torres touch can pick apart the best of defences. El Red Nino we call him, a true redblood. Even the queen of the redbloods, nutwang, knows of his superiority to Tevez

Quaresma is not a static player he switches wings and , hey, you can always put 5 players man-marking him and leave the other Porto players alone. I wouldn´t mind. Razz

I'd be very happy with a draw in that game as it's definitely our toughest tie in the group. Like DD said, we'll probably play for a draw and it'll be very hard to break us down.

I've heard that the Stade Velodrome has a brilliant atmosphere. Architecturally, it's a beautifully shaped stadium too.

Any Pool fans travelling abroad for a game should check out the price of flights to Marseille.

One month into his first season at a new club won't show that up. Of course now he's working hard and trying to impress. Wait till things maybe start going wrong for him, or he has a bit of a dry patch, or he has to play 3 games in 3 days in December getting the $h!t kicked out of him by Wigan, then you'll see this.

A reserve at Valencia, if he went back now he would be a reserve again. Now basically a reserve at Liverpool. Wouldn't get 10 mill for him. Cannot pass to save his life. Very limited ability. He does...but based on that one game his profile has elevated so much it's unreal. Many posters have said this many times on the board before - Sissoko is perfect to destroy teams like Barcelona, but in reality he's not all that great. It's all about the matchups, to quote Teamspirit.

@ LRD, he doesn't suit Spanish football, but he's perfect for breaking up play in the premiership.

@ Kas, no, he isn't technically very good. His energy, pace and work rate are all fantastic though. He cant pass, but he can tackle, and he's becoming much more confident with the ball at his feet (dribbling). I think he's one of the best play breakers around.

And you think running around at a high speed for 90 mins, only occasionally passing the ball well but doing a great job of destroying play, is enough to warrant being called one of the top 15 midfielders in the Premiership?

    Wrong actually

he built his reputuation long before those games and has gobbled up the chelsea midfield made a laughing stock of scholes and co on numerous occasins. barca were just the latest in a long line of conquests cyclops

too much focus is placed on what he can't do at the expense of what he actually does do. he was out of fomr at the end of last season after the eye and knee injuries but he is playing like a man possessed at the minute
