Yeah, bring up an example from 20 years ago, as if it has anything to do with the way the game is now. Today money(ie clubs) is what matters.

Every world cup or euro we see small time players put in some good performances and get snapped up by clubs, only to turn out not to be that good. We see it all the time. International football sucks for juding players.

Crouch is actually quite technically proficient. Don't fall into the typical "he's tall so he must be clumsy" trap.

I have seen alot of players perform in the top three leagues but only a few out of a possible thousand are world class

IMHO no current English international is WC

Yeah, but it's their club football you base it on, not what they do for their country. Is David Healy world class? He's one of the best international strikers around.

No way because he doesn't perform in European competitions and Domestically

IMHO to be called WC u must perform for club(domestic and in Europe) and international level so no wonder there is about only 1-10 WC players around currently(true story )

So Cristiano Ronaldo *now* is World Class and Wayne Rooney (he was improving his international performance before he got injured so missed the Croatia game) Still both are no where near their peak.

Totti was never much crack for Italy. Zlatan aswell, not a great player for Sweden. Fabregas hasn't done much for Spain. Seedorf isn't even playing for Holland.

I take it these players aren't world class in your book?

Not yet but however after this season if he maintains his current form for Manchester/Portugal in the EPL,UCL,Euro 2008 then he will be WC

Totti-European Class
Zlatan-European Class could become WC if he does well for Sweden at a major tournament
Cesc- EPL Class he has to do more in UCL to become European Class
Seedorf- European Legend but never WC

Totti is not WC hes done nothing major in UCL so far and hardly had a Good Major International Tournament apart from Euro 2000.

Gattuso is world class but Seedorf isn't and never has been? Deary me.

Ask yourself has Seedorf ever performed well for both Club/Country in the same period like Gattuso has?

Seedorf has as much talent in his little finger as Gattuso has in his entire body, and it shows every week at Milan. But Gattuso is rated higher because he plays well for Italy once every 2 months? Nonsense.

So George Best was never world class because Northern Ireland were considered a lowly team. EMP I understand you method of measuring players but it shows there is exceptions.

@Brian yeah there is expectations as u mentioned George Best but people to call the likes of Crouch,Rooney,Lampard,Ronaldo WC is shocking.

Agree none of these players are world class

You must be the only of a few on here think that.

Maybe because you seen a generation of better players than who are currently playing.


These days u have a good season in the top 3 leagues and have the odd two good games in UCL you are branded WC

I think most people on here would say Ronaldo is world class, not the other 3 though.

Why aren't the Manx jumping all over this?
