It's not on video yet. So hold your horses.

More than overhype, sickened with all the 'Scotty' Parker, Good ol' Harry, Gareth Bale 'as good as Messi and Ronaldo' stuff.

Seen the Ben Arfa goal- thoroughly decent but best technique ever? Pardew is getting a little over excited.

By the way- check out the French chap Arnaud Mendy's goal in the Macclesfield V Bolton game. Also a Gaullic stunner.

Regarding Spurs: you talking about the same media who tried desperately to force Modric to Chelsea
by unsettling him and painting us out to be a small club? Similarly, just because Parker and Bale have been hyped up in the past doesn't detract from the fact both are having excellent seasons. It's the nature of the beast in this day and age, you just wait- the bandwagon is rolling regarding Pardew's toon army. Demba Ba, Tiote and Cabaye for example, theyll go from underrated to overrated very quickly and then any performance not a 8 or 9 put of ten will be met with claims of being overhyped. Look at your man Nasri for example.

So continue being sickened by it- doesn't change the fact that a lot of the praise we re receiving this season is clearly warranted, just as Newcastle warrant it whether the Tabloids end up fawning over them or not. We re all intelligent enough to work it out ourselves without Puro and co- the purveyors of the so called anti-hyped truth- telling us what's what.

Ben Arfa clearly has great tekkers- but that's never really been in question with a lot of the top Frenchies. It was a great goal.

But, I'm not one to fawn over naturally talented players who score the occasional wonder goal but spend large periods of their career lazily believing they are better than they actually are and don't have to try. We ll see what happens with Barfa, but let's hope he doesn't become another Nasri/Arshavin/Dos Santos/Taarabt/Bentley whose occasional glimpses of natural talent gain them a reputation that exceeds their actual worth, particularly on forums like this one

Nasri will come good. A slow starter. Yeah, he still hasn't been consistent apart from that 4 month period for L'OM (then he got a glandular fever), and 3 month period for Arsenal. He was integral to our qualifying campaign. Did well vs England in friendly too. You should know that. Let's see how he does in Euros & for City.

Barfa is exceptionally talented. But more incisive, unlike Nasri..

Dos Santos/Taarabt/Bentley were never that talented, to begin with.

Arshavin isn't cut out for Premier league. He did play well in first few months. It's a russian syndrome. Look at Pav.

Btw Whinger got it completely wrong on Arshavin/Modric, didnt he. Signed the wrong Eastern European.

Barfa/Nasri are both in another level to these players. Both 24 FFS!

Dos Santos was a major star in the 2007 youth World Cup, and was deemed a huge prospect(http://www.cbc.ca/sports/fifau20/newsmakers/dossantos.html)

Bentley was heralded as the next Bergkamp at Arsenal when he first broke through. His 7 goals and 13 PL assists at Blackburn in 2007/08 season is more than Nasri ever had at Arsenal.

Arshavin was one of the stand out players in the 2008 Euros.

Taarabt - well, technically anyone can see he's probably ahead of all of these guys. But his attitude absolutely stinks

To say that none of them were as talented as Nasri and Barfa seems a very, very bizarre comment. All of these guys were major natural talents who were eventually let down by poor attitudes.

    Anyway, in other news:

What the fuck is Sammy Ameobi wearing? Is he 14 years old?

Kimmy, what do you make of this release clause in Ba's contract? To be honest, I can't see him opting to move this january even if someone offered more and therefore were allowed to talk to him.

If he does go in the summer he ll go to PSG- boyhood fan and they can offer silly money and wages for him

I think there has been a media frenzy over it and no one seems to know the facts. We don't know what the clause is or how much it is. Whatever it is I don't seem him leaving during this window, especially with him in Africa.

A player who hasn't done it in senior professional league level. Anderson finished above him in individual awards in that tournament eh? Laughing In fleeting appearances for Barca, it was clear that he'd not be anymore than mid-table Liga fodder (at best).

Bentley was heralded as the next Bergkamp at Arsenal when he first broke through. His 7 goals and 13 PL assists at Blackburn in 2007/08 season is more than Nasri ever had at Arsenal.

Arsenal fans are known to being exceptionally deluded. I think the comparison to Beckham in his Norwich/Blackburn days weren't far off. He's really the poor man's Beckham for all senses & purposes. How does that compare to being the next Zidane as Nasri? In End product, a crosser/set-piece specialist like Bentley is bound to get more assists. If you go by such stats, he's already a world apart from Bale eh?

Arshavin was one of the stand out players in the 2008 Euros.

For playing well in two games. Against shite defenders. But granted that he produced some good moments in his first year at Arse.

Taarabt - well, technically anyone can see he's probably ahead of all of these guys. But his attitude absolutely stinks

From his time in Lens, he didn't really break through in top flight. Did well in Championship, but never really proved anything to warrant the hype.

He was. Zidane too acknowledged that. Presented him for Ligue un talent of the year. Just after that season, he got grandular fever & he became a little less potent. (pun unintended)

The way he is going, is a bit worrying. But at some stage, he'd have to grow balls & be a bit more incisive. In a way, he is anti-Arshavin, who tries to go incisive than pass/move/keep possession. If he had the mentality of Arshavin (who lacks stamina/physical strength), he'd be some player.

Don't see Nasri being succesful at Man City. He could only manage 4 months of brilliant form at Arsenal when playing in the team consistently. He's unlikely to get an extended run in the Man City side, and his position will never be the same. I envisage him retreating further into his ineffectual shell.

In some ways that's a shame, as he could be one of the most graceful and deadly players in the Premier League, even if he lacks the genius of Silva, in other ways though, HAHAHA FUCK YOU YOU UNGRATEFUL c**t.

He doesn't have to do it in senior competition to be considered a talent (didn't see anyone callhim Gio a high level player, just talented)), isn't it a definition of talent - young player who have a potential to do well later in his career? He was looking very talented when he was breaking into Barca team, but quickly money got to him (Zahavi) and he was wasted soon after. But even watching him playing for Mexican NT it's clear (at least for me) that talent is and was always there.

Not sure about Taarabt. I remember his first cameos for Tottenham and for sure he looked like a good dribbler, but it probably isn't enough to be called a talent.

Ale Spot on. My man Fade Out seems to have missed the point here - I was arguing his ludicrous claim that the players mentioned weren't players deemed to have major potential when they first broke onto the scene, nothing to do with North London hype or whatever the hell that's supposed to mean Laughing

By the way - Bentley had/has far more technical ability than Beckham ever did. With Beckham's attitude he could have easily surpassed David. Which is the whole point of this thread in the first place: you and your French bias keep banging on about how wonderful Barfa and Nasri are and how they will only get better. In reality, both seem like they have far too much of that arrogant misplaced attitude to make it big. And I'm sure I'll be proven right long term Ale

Have you got one minute? Sadly not that many Bentley videos left but this will have to do:

Right foot, left foot, heading, dribbling ability - Bentley was able to do all of these things which Beckham couldn't. The number of times I saw him at WHL showboating doing step overs and slowing attacks down: technically brilliant but never had Beckham's vision or team ethic. If he had, he would have been a hell of a player

Fade out wrote:He was.

Bruno Cheyrou was the "next Zidane", so being labelled that doesn't make you brilliant. The basis of the Zidane comparison seems to be that Nasri was a pretty good young footballer, playing for France with Algerian heritage.

If he had the mentality of Arshavin? Is this a typo as Arshavin has an awful attitude. He not only lacks stamina/physical strength he lacks the mental attitude that makes some players try harder. I think this site describes him pretty well:
    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/player/_/id/22873/andrei-arshavin?cc=5739

Weaknesses: His negative body language can lead to accusations that Arshavin is a lazy player and all too often he drifts in and out of games without leaving his mark. Technically brilliant, his weak spot is his application and mentality.

Fade Out was talking about Arshavin's incisiveness - willingness to run at players and try difficult passes, regarding his mentality. Thought that was obvious.

Nasri coasts too much, he has Fernando Gago syndrome. I think Shaz once (ludicrously) said Andres Iniesta lacks *it*, despite having all the ability in the world. I think that label applies to Nasri, somethings missing, and it's hard to figure out what.

Not sure how Fenomeno can suggest Ben Arfa's underrated - he's been pretty much hyped as a "New Zidane since he left Clairefontaine and joined Lyon... we're all still waiting for him to become this dominant player.

Taarabt is ludicrously gifted (probably the most skilful of ALL the players mentioned in this convo) but his terrible attitude and self-indulgence has done for him at the top level.

Dos Santos is nowhere near as bad, and he is saveable - He's basically at the same point where Ben Arfa was in 2008/9 - he scored 5 in 16 for Racing last year and somebody decent will take a chance on him. #whatcouldhavebeen.

Arshavin is the best and most dangerous of the lot when on top of his game, but those days look to be behind him, he's lost much of his explosiveness that made him so great between 2006-9.

Bentley just got found out - there's a reason he didn't make it at Arsenal and flopped at Spurs. Talented and with a keen eye for the spectacular he may be, but he lacked the speed of foot, thought, and application to hang with the best.

Although I understand what you mean, I consider Arshavin's incisiveness is more to do with the type of player he is (a dribbler and shooter). I would consider him not tracking back or working hard for the team more an indication of his mentality. In any case Nasri's problem is far from not being incisive, he needs to start by not being invisible.
