Bottom line seems to be which bench will the above 2 players be occupying for the 10 or so games they are not injured next season.
Apparently we're getting 15m which isn't bad business (we got him for 10m euros). A good player who was, unfortunately, never the same after a bad Achilles injury a few seasons ago. He also behaved impeccably this summer so far. Best of luck to him.
No reflection on Agger but can't we do better than him?
You always somehow manage to f*ck Barcelona over on transfers. Respect.
I read that barcelona paid for about 35% of the of the Emirates Stadium so far.
15 million for vermalaen is mental, but rumour is that manu offered even more, but Wenger preferred not to sell him to a rival (finally)

It's 15 million pounds for Verm btw. Or 19mil euros.
I guess the captaincy will pass onto Arteta. My guess is that one of the British contingent will get the vice captaincy, possibly Wilshere. However Mertesacker will be the popular choice

Arteta should not be considered a starter. We won't be competitive if he's regularly in the team. Tbh, even against weak opposition he was pretty terrible last year. We badly need that Arteta Flamini upgrade.

Re: Todays Transfer Rumours
Verm wasn't a starter all last season either. AW rates Arteta's leadership qualities off the pitch so I doubt it would matter too much when it comes to the armband. I agree we need reinforcements in CM.
On second thought maybe Mertesacker will get vice captaincy as a nailed on starter.

Arsenal have been crying out for a quality Vieira/Petit replacement for so long, and its so obvious... I wonder what is Wenger's rationale? Surely he doesn't think Flamini is it?

Kimbo wrote:Bashmachkin wrote:I'm fairly pleased with the signings of Darlow and Lascelles. While I've never watched either, it sounds like a good deal for two young English players who are apparently reasonably promising. I don't think anyone has a high opinion of Elliot, and our centre backs all seem to be on the decline, so while we might ideally have strengthened in those positions for the coming season, at least these signings give us a little hope for the future. And like you say Kimbo, if they're not ready to improve the first eleven, it's better that they're out of the way and being coached elsewhere. I still think we need at least an accomplished striker, but after Ferreyra - and now these two - I don't expect us to bring in anyone else.
The Lacazette rumours aren't going away, though i've never really taken it seriously as the numbers are too big for us.
Something has to give this season though, Pardew has talked about the CL twice, the new players seem to be expecting us to compete for Europe, De Jong said when he arrived that top 4 is the aim, they must have told him that to get him to sign, probably sold the others the same bullshit.
Scratch that, he's now said that the aim this season is 48 points, which is less than we got last season. It must be nice to set your own low targets.

60 million pounds more like:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-united/11053451/Angel-Di-Maria-set-to-move-to-Manchester-United-in-potential-60-million-transfer-from-Real-Madrid.html#disqus_thread
But I doubt if financially it is a problem anyway.
I think di maria has great work rate so could play the wingback position or in midfield, so it's a good signing. I predict though that he won't run quite as much once he's been kicked a few times in the EPL .

60 million is ridiculous for him. He's an amazing player but is he fuck worth that. Again though, how is this going to help United keep clean sheets and have a respectable midfield?

Re: Todays Transfer Rumours
It's like the Mata signing - it's big name desperation.
If you bring Di Maria in, they won't be able to get the best out of all 4 of him and Rooney/RVP/Mata consistently.
Di Maria being the world's most expensive Wing-back?
--------------De Gea
------Jones---Evans----Smalling
Valencia--Herrara--MC/DF*-----Di Maria
---------------Mata
----------Rooney-----RVP
* = Mchael Carrick/Darren Fletcher.
Luke Shaw gets screwed over by the above formation.
Or he plays in his best position on the right of the 3 behind the striker but one of Rooney/RVP becomes ineffective.

Re: Todays Transfer Rumours
I could understand Di Maria if they had already signed 2 centre backs and 2 midfielders. It's like us - if we hadn't of signed Lovren, Moreno, Lallana and Can then we'd all be a bit miffed going for Balotelli but now we can afford the luxury of signing him as an addition, not a necessity.

don't think of it as £60 million. Think of it as two thousand teacher's salaries. That's not so much.

It would be madness if he keeps the same system now that they have Di Maria. I expect them to go over to a 4-3-3. The question is if they will use Di Maria in central midfield like he did last year where he flourished or if he will play as a winger. If it is the former than Mata could play on the right and Rooney on the left with Shaw at leftback. It may work out that way.
