Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
I remember him playing against us last season, he may even have scored against us. I don't recall being particularly impressed with him, and having looked at his record he is hardly prolific. It would seem to be a strange choice so hopefully nothing will come of it. How much would he cost?

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
He won't be expensive, €3.5-4M. He is talented (just talented, nothing special), but he was basically ruined in Hamburg last season, their own fans were booing when he missed 2-3 sitters. That's the reason why he actually wants to leave them after just one season, he said that it really hurt to see his own 'fans' booing him off the pitch.
We supposedly were interested in him last year already, but as a squad player back then, not as a starter (or Klose replacement even like these days).
Yes, he scored against you guys in the CL, and scored for Hamburg today in a test match also. Like I said, he would be ok for the squad, but not as an Klose replacement.
P.S.: About 90% of the Werder fans in the official forum are against the transfer. Will definitely make it easier for him to integrate here, should the transfer really happen.

Don't think so, too many injuries of key players, and too many key players missing in general (e.g. Diego and Naldo who played the Copa). I expect you guys to win the match.
The only good thing about it is that we will see our new player Carlos Alberto in action for the first time. Will be interesting to see Torres also.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
Nilmar Close To Joining Werder Bremen
The 22 year old striker, currently with Corinthians, is expected to join compatriot Carlos Alberto as Bremen’s latest summer recruit. He has previously tried his luck in Europe with a spell at Lyon in 2004. His stay in France wasn’t a great success with only 2 goals in 32 appearances.
However Nilmar was only 19 at the time and has gained in experience since.
It is hoped the deal can be completed in time for him to join up with the rest of the squad at their training headquarters in Switzerland.
“It would be great if the deal goes through, and we're trying our very hardest to make sure that it does” said Werder trainer Thomas Schaaf.
:D
But then i found this article, and this pisses me off:
Werder’s Carlos Alberto Bid In Doubt As MSI Face Prosecution
Werder Bremen face problems in their bid to sign Brazilian Carlos Alberto.
It is being reported that another club have offered more than the €7.5 million on the table from Werder. Secondly, the investment firm MSI who own the transfer rights for the player face prosecution for money laundering.
Oh boy oh boy oh boy

Weird. In the Werder forum, people are very pessimistic about a Nilmar transfer now. Would be awesome, hope that article is true.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
He played for Porto at the age of 19, had some very good matches for them, especially in the CL, won the CL and World Club Cup with Porto (played together with Diego for a few months btw.). When Mourinho left Porto, he went back to Brazil, played for Corinthians and won the Brazilian championship with them. The difficult character he is (or was...), he didn't get along with the coach, and was loaned out to his home club Fluminense, and won the Brazilian cup with them this year, which was quite a surprise.
He basically has already won a ton of silverware at his young age, seems to be a winner type of player. He is very talented, but supposedly a difficult character. But since he has been here in Bremen, he really has done his best to prove that wrong, looks like a great guy to be honest.

Looking forward to the Liverpool game later, however much of a relative non-event it is. (Plus there's Hertha-Boro... not sure if muchg of a chance of seeing any of that...) Be a good opportunity to see your man Carlos and the boy Torres at least.
Can it be true that Rosenberg's song originates from a Swedish article posted on the Werder forum that stated, correctly, "Markus Rosenberg fick se alla Sveriges VM-matcher från afterbänken utan att få spela en minut", as in, he had to sit and watch all the Swedish WM games from the sidlelines without playing a minute?
If so, how utterly random and genius (even if a Swedish friend I told about this at the weekend wasn't as amused as I'd hoped).
(Instead, he revealed that he had, er, "known" the girlfriend of a guy who turned out to be Afonso Alves – as in from his Malmö days; possibly more interesting still ;-) ...)

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
As expected, we lost the test match against Liverpool today. We simply had too many injuries, too many key players missing. Considering the fact that we played with midfielders in the central defence (no fit defenders, hence the comedy mistakes in the beginning), and quite a few U23 youngsters, especially in the second half (6-7 players), who usually play in the third division, we did ok actually.
I was pleased to see Carlos Alberto in action for us for the first time, he showed glimpses of his great talent, really should have scored the great chance he created himself. Riise's free kick was great, but a fully fit Wiese probably would have saved that shot. But even though many key players were missing / not fully fit, you could once again see that we really need a new (class!) striker soon. Youngsters Schindler and Lönig from our second team (= third division) scoring was nice to see, but Rosenberg and to a lesser extent Almeida can not lead an attack on their own yet, this is very clear now after our last few test matches.
Womé was disappointing, while Schulz had a good match on the LB position. That's why I'm glad that Allofs will not allow him to leave us this summer like he intends to. Schulz really should not run away from the competition, he definitely has the potential to become a starter for us again.
As far as Liverpool is concerned, Voronin was clearly MOTM for me, actually MOTM in general. Great match by him, always caused trouble for our tired defence, and scored two good goals. Torres had a few good scenes also, but he was not playing long enough unfortunately.

Because we lost two matches with more than half of our first team missing?
You can win the Liga Pokal, but you will have to play at your limit to win the league.
What I saw of Carlos Alberto in his first ever match for us today looked very promising. I can see him create a very dangerous and fruitful partnership with Diego in the midfield for us. We just need a class striker, then God have mercy with you Lederhosen...

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
You can win the Liga Pokal and UEFA Cup, and watch us play a hopefully great CL season and win the championship in the end.
Everybody expects you to win it all again, this is actually the best thing that could have happened to the competition. You have the pressure.
If we sign a class striker, we will have a realistic chance to win the league. If we don't however, a CL spot is the best we can hope for, that will be difficult enough.

Only God (=Allofs) knows who we will sign in the end, but we will definitely sign another striker (probably 2) this summer.
Nilmar is actually still injured, but he is already in training, and will be fit around August / Spetember. But again, it's just not clear at all.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
This summer is basically a nightmare for Werder Bremen fans. For the first time, I seriously question Allofs for his transfers.
First of all, we sold Klose without having a replacement, that's very clear now, despite saying for months that we won't do that under any circumstances. Second, it looks like we are going to replace him with a mediocre striker (at best) like Sanogo, and going to pay our arch rival HSV way too much money for him, because they know the desperate situation we are in, of course. If Sanogo is such a good striker like Allofs seriously trying to make the fans believe these days, why the f@ck didn't we sign him last year already, for (much) less money?
Third, we signed Carlos Alberto, the only positive news this summer. However, he still has not the full international license to play for us yet, so we can't play him against Bayern in the Ligapokal tonight, for example. As if the transfer was not complicated and annoying enough, Corinthians have still not signed a few papers that are necessary for him to get that international license (God knows why, maybe because they still haven't got the money the MSI scum is supposed to pay them). We now have called in FiFA, but it will take a few weeks before this mess is finally over. We basically bought a (very talented, granted) player for a record fee and can't play him!
This summer has really pissed me off. Add the constant injury crisis which now has gotten even worse, with Almeida not being able to play against Bayern tonight, and it really stinks. We basically have Rosenberg as the only fit striker in the senior squad now, Schindler is still too young to be a regular in the Bundesliga, the same applies to Harnik who just played the U20 WC with Austria and will be back in a week or two. Hunt is seriously injured and won't be fit for months, nobody knows when Klasnic is going to play competitive football again, if ever. And now Almeida is injured as well.
Our striker situation is a disaster, and that's not exaggerating. We went from the best strike force in the league a while ago to one of the weakest. And instead of buying a class striker and improving the quality and quantity, we just improve the latter with Sanogo.
Diego and Naldo are still not back from the Copa, and didn't have a real rest for years now, so it wouldn't be a surprise if they can't keep that very high level of last season next year, especially in the second half of the upcoming season.
Under these circumstances, I can see us having a very difficult season, and I really can't see us challenging for the title. Even a CL spot will be very difficult to achieve.
Yes, with Alberto, our midfield has gotten even stronger, and will probably have even more of a goal threat than it had already. But having one of the very best defences and midfields alone is simply not enough if your attack is weaker than all of your direct competitors.
If you consider the fact that we still have to qualify for the CL, things look even worse. To make it a perfect disaster, we just have to bottle that also...
Not that we'll be a real threat to anyone once we have qualified...
P.S.: Bayern to win the match tonight, but I couldn't give a flying f@ck about the Ligapokal. 3 weeks before the league starts, and it simply looks awful for us.
