If we'd sign both Nilmar and Sanogo, I'd actually be satisfied with our transfers this summer. But that won't happen.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
Well, that's what we thought also. Aftually, we have to sign 2 strikers if you consider the disastrous situation in our attack, and Nilmar being fit in August / September earliest, but unfortunately, I don't think that this will happen. Sanogo would be an ok signing for the squad (albeit a way too expensive one, no way he is worth ~€5M after that awful season with HSV (they bought him for €3.8M last year), if we bought Nilmar also. But it looks like it will be just Sanogo, and that's simply awful, there is no other word for it.
If we'd sign both Nilmar and Sanogo, I'd actually be satisfied with our transfers this summer. But that won't happen.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
As expected, Bayern beat us clearly in the Ligapokal yesterday. Like I said earlier, I didn't expect anything from this match, as explained in detail. However, the way Bayern dominated this (injury ridden, granted) Werder side was impressive and frightening at the same time. Our midfield basically was not existent, and this was just another proof for the fact that we definitely need a new class striker as well, because they were even less harmless (but the midfield was most to blame).
It's high time that Diego and Naldo come back, and that Carlos Alberto finally gets his full international license. A lot of work to do for Schaaf before the season starts. As I said, this could become a very difficult season for us, especially if we don't sign another class striker.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
It won't be horrible for Werder, but it will be a difficult year. It all depends on what striker we are going to sign in the next few weeks though. Even the opposite could happen with the right player(s) signed.
For die Mannschaft, it's going to be an awesome year. Schweinsteiger already on fire yesterday after his long injury could not be expected, the other German internationals playing for Bayern had a great match also. Our internationals will gain form very soon also, that I'm sure of. Sorry Fey, but EC 2008 is ours.

Do you believe the Anelka rumours? Could be a great signing and let's face it, he is never going to get CL football with Bolton.

Didn't read anything about that, thought that Arsenal want to sign him.
I don't care about names though, I want some genuine talent / class.

Wenger has pretty much ruled out signing another forward. If you could get Anelka that would be a really good signing. I thought he had an impressive season last year and he looked like he has matured a bit. Bolton will not want to sell him though.

Almeida is definitely a prospect, both for you and Portugal, but I imagine he isn't ready to lead the line.
Will be interesting to see what Bremen end up doing.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
We have / should have a ton of money left. We are (probably) playing the CL for the fourth time in a row, we have quite a lot ot cash on the bank (some say up to €30M), we sold Klose for €12-15M in addition to that.
So far, we have only spend about €11M on Carlos Alberto and Almeida this summer. We could easily spend another €15M (and more) on a striker, but we won't. It's simply not the Werder philosophy to buy expensive players.
The Anelka rumours are discussed in the Werder forum now also. Most fans agree that the transfer fee will probably be too high (his wages are rather low in comparison, he earns €2.5-2.7M in Bolton). We could easily afford him, but I'm very sceptical that we will.

The game against Bayern was just a bad day or you do not take the League cup seriously like in some other countries?
You usually have good results against them i was surprised to see a 1-4 result. Or is this is another year of Bayern domination in the Bundesliga?

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
There were a variety of reasons, as explained earlier in the thread already. The most important one: We missed a lot of key players (especially the Brazilians), and we have a lot of injuries (even our backups are injured) and had to field a couple of youngsters from our second team. And Bayern simply have the better bench, they can compensate the loss of key players much better.
But yeah, the Ligapokal is not really taken seriously over here. The only positive aspect about it is that you can earn quite a lot of cash. The Ligapokal seems to be 'cursed' also: Most clubs that won it in the past didn't do too well in the season after. We won it last year, for example, but we didn't win the championship, like we should have.
I don't care about the Ligapokal, but I do care about getting thrashed by Bayern, no doubt.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
In the half-time break of the Ligapokal match against Bayern yesterday, Allofs (our sporting director) and Hoeness (Bayern's equivalent) had a relatively strong dispute. Hoeness was pissed off about our fans insulting Klose, and accused Allofs / Werder to be responsible for that.

WTF does this sausage maker think? That we cheer for him after he left us in such a shameful way, after Bayern used every dirty trick there is to get him? He can royally f@ck off for all I (and all Werder fans) care.
P.S.: Amazing how cool and calm Allofs remained, I know I couldn't have. Good stuff. Hoeness needs this bullshit, he lives it.

I don´t understand german but one can get an idea of how pissed he is
And i understand you pretty well, a Porto player signing for Benfica would be a traitor and of course he would be treated acordingly by Porto fans

Exactly. It's the most normal thing there is, especially when a high profile player leaves the club in such a shameful way. In Barcelona, they were throwing a pig's head at Figo FFS!
Werder fans should use a few sausages made by Hoeness in the upcoming Bundesliga match against Bayern in August I guess.

haha....true, I told you that you Porto guys have an excellent taste.
Carlos Alberto only has played a test match against Liverpool for us so far, and he did show glimpses of his great talent already. Unfortunately, he can't play any competitive matches for us yet, because some formalities still need to be done (Corinthians and the Brazilian FA have not signed a few papers yet that are necessary (Corinthians are in a mess, MSI related), we now have called in FiFA). It should take a week or two before he finally gets his full international license.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
We are going to sign Boubacar Sanogo from Hamburg, for a ridiculous €4M plus bonuses (up to €6M (!) altogether, depending on our success).
Does it get more desperate than this? If Sanogo is the only striker we sign (again, for a ridiculous price), the "Klose replacement", Allofs definitely lost the plot this summer, as I wrote earlier already. Sanogo will be under pressure from the beginning, because the majority of Werder fans is very disappointed about this transfer already, and him being compared to Klose won't make it easier for him either...
Someone please wake me up from this nightmare.

If Sanogo is the only striker we sign, we most probably won't compete indeed.
Allofs will risk a lot with this transfer (again, if Sanogo is the only striker we sign). If it doesn't work, it will be his first major fuckup, and the price Werder will have to pay for it will be high also (e.g. no CL qualification / CL spot next year).

You guys don´t need a big star up front to do well, you play as a team.
As long as you have a good solid team with plenty of fantasy, as you have, you'll be allright. If money would meant instant success Bayern would have 10 titles in a row or more.
Keep positive

Yeah whatever Otto.
(Have to say that wee account scarcely convinces me as regards the whole Verständigung issue, raised by a Werder fan asking how the likes of Ribéry, Toni, Klose/Poldi were going to communicate... suppose you have to find some way to big up the team spirit of a bunch of guys united by nothing but "schnöder Mammon" )

we'll see whether he can live up to expectations
remember, Schweini is hitting form as well now, and Alintop is on fire also
we have a German-French Alliance in the TdF
the NON-DOPERS against the rest

Merkel and Co are completely pissed off
exactly what I predicted before the French election
ironically, it will help us Germans realise we have to stand up for our own interests
