    Nilmar would be awesome!

Yes, he had problems when he joined Lyon at a very young age, but he has grown as a player, is still very young and very gifted.
Like Alberto, he'll need time to adopt, that's why I want him to join us ASAP, if that article is true (Kreiszeiting is usually very reliable).

Don't want to ruin the party, but there are worries that he might be too injury prone. His knee was seriously injured, knocked him out for a while. Hopefully, that has not taken away his pace, which is another strenght of his, in addition to his great technique.

Still, Corinthians are in a mess this days, a lot of players seem to want to leave, so the price should be very acceptable. An awesome player regardless, definitely strenghtening our squad.

Seems "injury prone" is a favourite term of yours these days, blut. Wink

Nilmar could easily be our second jackpot after Diego. sunny

Zidan and our coach Thomas Schaaf simply didn't get along. It was sad indeed, because I still believe him to have a lot of potential (HSV might have actually bought a good striker for a change...), but it simply didn't work out.

Zidan is a sensitive guy, he needs to be in centre of attention. When he was in Bremen, we had the best forward line of the league, hence a lot of competition for the starting place. Zidan was just one of many, not the star of the team like in Mainz.

Will be interesting to see how he will do in Hamburg next season.

Bremer Samba-Zeit - aber tanzen will noch keiner

Kommen Carlos Alberto und Nilmar im Doppelgeschäft mit der MSI zu Werder?

    Von Arne Flügge

BREMEN (Eig. Ber.)

Hugo Almeida will die Werder-Fans glücklich machen

Good stuff. I expect Hugo to have a good season, expect him to get much more playing time also. He now got used to the league, and will further improve his game under Schaaf.

Well done on the signings, it all seems to be going well (just need another one or two maybe, join the club...) – even if your foreign contingent is getting very preponderantly Brazilian ;-)

I confess I'm still very confused, haven't been around for a while and last I heard Carlos A to HSV was a done deal. Bloody Welt eh. How did they get it so wrong?? (Apart from the Pauli theory...)

Oh well, a lot more to catch up on...

I see your Liverpool game is next Tues. It's not going to be on any form of TV, is it??

    Welcome back, Allez! Ale

Unfortunately, I don't think that they will show the test match against Liverpool on TV, but chrissi might know more. It's just a test match though, some of our key players, especially the Brazilian contingent playing the Copa, will most probably not play.

Well, more important than nationality is the character of the players, and with the exception of Carlos Alberto, who supposedly is a difficult character, all of the other Brazilians are the nicest people you can imagine, especially Naldo who is just a great guy. I don't think that there is a danger of cliquey structures within the team, Fritz denied that in an interview also.

As far as Die Welt is concerned: Bloody Springer press, and especially the author of those articles is known to be a die hard HSV fan. He really made a fool of himself though, to the amusement of us Werder fans ("er sollte schnell einen Ruderkurs belegen"). Very Happy

Don't worry, wasn't going to make a big thing about the Brazilians, I'm not Otto you know. Wink

Thanks, if not next week hopefully I might find a way to see some of the Ligapokal.

How is the eye/what did you have done to it?? See you've hit the old 3-0, trust you had a good one – herzlichen Glückwunsch and all that...

(One thing I was idly and selfishly wondering as I chase up news/articles etc that you guys have posted is the idea of having a special/dedicated thread for interesting articles and the like or something similar – then again this is more from the point of view of e.g. me who am often trying to play catch-up on this board. It's ridiculous to suggest people shouldn't post articles in the relevant thread I suppose...)

What's up with the yellow avatar? And re the Hesse-Lichtenberger stuff on t'other thread... do you know his book "Tor! The Story of German Football"? Still haven't got too far into it, but should be good I hope... was looking for the original until I realized he'd written it in English (!)...

(If you reply and I don't, I'm just dashing out, so apologies in advance.)

Don't believe I've posted 1000 times on a football message board...

And thank you, I hope that life is not really over now, like some of my mean and nasty friends tell me all the time...

About my eye: It's nothing serious, they had to remove something from eyelid, not even sure what it was. It hurt like hell though, because the local anaesthetisation was not 100%, but I survived. Problem is: As expected, my eye was swollen blue afterwards, I had a few stitches and my eye was bloodshot red, basically looked like a Zombie.

About the articles / single threads thing: Don't think that it'll work, people on here are way too undisciplined for that.

My yellow avatar is an homage to Samba-Werder, Brazillian yellow and Bremen green. Was meant in jest though. Very Happy

    @blut

    Did you already read this?

    nett!

Absolutely brilliant, just read it in the Werder forum! ok
A guy who is that nice, I wonder what all the "difficult character" stuff is all about? He probably just wanted to play football, and hated it to be benched, like every player with ambition.

Yeah, I imagine it's not too realistic to expect any kind of news/articles thread... anyway, as it is everyone's contributions are much appreciated, esp the indefatigable Chrissi.

Re your man Super Mario yesterday...

    http://www.welt.de/sport/article1014284/Hat_Basler_seinen_neuen_Job_beim_Pokern_gewonnen.html

Talking of which, check this – really wish I wasn't at work so could play the sound...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kYY_KOx2Qw

Will see if there's any chance of my finding somewhere showing the Liverpool game (could even persuade a Red friend to watch some German footie for once!) – if not, Ligapokal at least...

Yes Blut I see – looks v Brazilian; is plenty of psychological material for Otto to work on there... Wink

Will let you know about the Hesse-Lichtenberger book when I get through it. That stuff with your eye sounds grim, hope you're recovering OK (liked Chrissi's Gute Besserung pic!). Have had some nasty conjunctivitis etc myself in the past (contact lens issues) but that sounds like some bad Hornhautentzündung/keratitis or worse...

It's nothing serious, really. I'm much better now, so don't you worry.

Hopefully, we'll see an interesting match against Liverpool, although I don't expect too much without a couple of our key players playing.

sheva, did you read that posting by chrissi about Carlos Alberto meeting some kids in the park? How cool is that? He was jogging in the park near his hotel, saw some kids playing football, asked them if he could join, and showed them some tricks, signed a few autographs and made some pictures with the kids who were absolutely delighted. And he was surprised how those kids already knew his name, and knew who he was.

You can't tell me that such a nice chap is an arsehole of a character!

Well, he has just moved to Bremen. Wait to see his reaction once he warms the bench.

BTW it seems that Ibson wants to go back to Flamengo but Porto want to loan him to an european club. So far I haven't read any news from Brazil linking Nilmar to Bremen.

A player who "likes" to warm the bench is useless, at least for the first team. No player with ambition really likes to be benched, Diego is actually no different in this respect (Porto days), so I won't hold this against CA. As long as he performs well and justifies his starting place, there will be no problems. And Schaaf will teach him discipline, but he will always support him also.

Ibson was just a rumour, it was never confirmed by our staff. chrissi would have loved us to sign him, that's all. Very Happy
After the Andreasen situation was cleared, I knew that we would not sign another defensive / central midfielder.

Nilmar is just a rumour also, the difference here is that it came from a usually very reliable source, a local newspaper with strong ties to the Werder board. Werder officials refused to comment on it.

Corinthians have problems and need money, and Nilmar's contract has basically expired already. And he is injured still, that's why the chances should be good to get him. However, it's just speculation so far, nothing concrete like in CA's case.

MSI and the Brazilian clubs, who all want their piece of the pie, are the reason why the CA transfer was still not made official yet btw.

Ibson wanted to stay but the manager have other ideas and since Porto wants to keep him, renew Ibson until 2011.

i think he will be loan to Flamengo though the player preffers a club in europe.

    Nothing is decided yet.

I didn´t knew Werder wanted him too. If you guys make an offer i am sure we will sell him to you .

Carlos Alberto has wondefull tricks, he was a delight to watch when i went to Dragão but his downsize was his temperament. That was the reason we sold him because his quality was never an issue.
