Hmmm...not sure what to think about this to be honest. Yes, we do need a pacy / creative striker, however we really need more experience up front, and he won't be cheap after the U20 WC hype either.

Yeah, I guess that means no Nilmar then. But I think he surely must be good when Allofs is so keen on him...blutgraetsche wrote:Hmmm...not sure what to think about this to be honest. Indeed. Very typical for us.
Just hope he'll be well soon, it's not like us fans can change anything about this mess.

Klasnic failed the medical of the DFL a few days ago, which is necessary for him to get the permission to play for us. Nobody knows when he is going to be match fit, if ever.

Carlos Alberto hospitalizado

Good news, but AFAIK, this has not officially been confirmed by the club yet. Didn't expect anything else to be honest, so no surprise.

Haha....as if we, out of all countries, are missing talent on that position. But I'm looking forward to see him play, hope he will develop well over here. No better place for goal keepers than Germany.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
What a debut for Werder youngster Martin Harnik! In his first match for the senior team of Austria against the Czechs yesterday, he scored the only goal for his team (match ended in a draw, 1:1), and apparently played a great match!
http://www.werder.de/aktuelles/news/meldung.php?id=11356
Kinda annoying that we lost him to Austria really, he could have played for Germany also, was actually born and raised here (his dad is Austrian, his mom German). But the Austrians need him more I guess...

Schaaf already played him against Zagreb (I think). I bloody hope so gunner, he is the only pacy, creative type of striker we have in the squad. Don't want us to rush him, but he could link our attack and midfield better, something we are really missing these days.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
Just came across this:
Mertesacker snubs Villa move
Per Mertesacker will not join Aston Villa after the German international's agent ruled out a move from Werder Bremen.
The giant centre-back was believed to be the subject of a £7 million bid as Martin O'Neill looks to stiffen up his defence, but Roman Pletz told Bild his player intended to respect his contract at the Weserstadion.
"Per has signed a contract with Werder until 2010. So a transfer is not an issue at all," he said.
Villa are looking for a long-term replacement for Olof Mellberg, who has hinted he will leave the club at the end of the season and is considering a move to MLS.
The six-foot-six Mertesacker won admirers at the World Cup last summer, as he shook off some initially shaky displays to help the hosts to third place.
He earned a transfer from Hannover to Bremen on the back of those performances, and he will again feature in Champions League action for the northern German outfit this season.
He featured against England at Wembley in Wednesday's friendly international, a match the Germans won 2-1.
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/24082007/58/premier-league-mertesacker-snubs-villa-move.html
------------
I can't imagine he seriously considered a move to Villa for one minute.

Yeah, he could move to much better clubs if he wanted to. Apart from that £7 million is a ridiculous bid. Seems they think after we haven given away Klose for almost nothing, we would let go all our players for free now...Sheffield gunner wrote:I can't imagine he seriously considered a move to Villa for one minute.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
Oh happy days.
Both Fritz and Sanogo won't play the difficult away match against Nürnberg tomorrow (injuries? we are the definition of injuries!), in addition to Carlos Alberto, who is still in the hospital.
This is our squad for the Nürnberg match:
Wiese, Vander, Pasanen, Niemeyer, Mertesacker, Naldo, Schulz, Tosic, Andreasen, Jensen, Baumann, Vranjes, Diego, Rosenberg, Almeida, Schindler, Harnik.
I wonder who will score the goals? Hope Rosenberg finally finds some form, and that Schaaf gives Harnik, who seems to be in great form, a chance.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
New speculation about Nilmar, and the Czech U20 striker Fenin.
Nilmar won against Corinthians in the court. Since he officially has no club now (at least once the appeal by Corinthians is rejected also), we could sign him after the transfer window even.
If we sign anyone, I expect us to do so once we have qualified for the CL though, if we qualify that is, of course.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
Allofs is not going anywhere!
This summer was far from his best, but I would rather lose all of our players than him. He and Schaaf are the backbone of our club.
The transfer is far from done though, I wish it was. Hope we will sign Nilmar, we really could do with a striker like him.
Thank you for the kind words, it will be difficult indeed. You know that I will be supporting you guys this season, you don't have an easy task either, but it can be done. I just hope for the sake of the club, that you finally get the stability that is necessary to have continous success.

Re: Werder Bremen 2007/2008
25.08.2007
Lieber Leser,

Not worth a new thread, congrats on your female winning the EC hockey. You looked pretty happy for a side playing in a handball defense. Attacking genes huh...
Naah, congrats, you defended great and were deadly in the 2 chances you got.
