This thread is quite this season! On 606, there used to be quite a few posts on the segunda! Anyone got any opinions on how the season might pan out? Xerez have made a great start, but in reality, they have a challenge to keep it up and get to the primera. Just like last season I feel they might fade away.

Good start to the season by Valladolid and Albacete also, both of which have been away from the primera for a few years, this could be a year for the bigger clubs being re-promoted?

Terry said don't worry! Once again he was proved wrong as Cadiz' were beaten by promoted Salamanca. Slipping down the table as fast as my dieing canaries. A one man team? Looking that way.

We are in a slumber tbh, although I can't see us losing at the Carranza. I think we have Castellon next week, should turn things around. I am just worried though. If we are to be repromoted we cant afford to be a one man team.

How does a country have such a strong fan base to support 2 leagues is beyond my reach. In Mexico you basically have the top tier and the 2nd division that basically make good money, the rest are just fill in leagues.

If you are talking about attendaces in lower leagues, England is the best expample of crowds that continue to the second division and beyond, the Championship averaging around 17,000 attendances. The segunda has an average of around 7,000, similar to that of League 1.

Not sure of the pattern in lower league attendances in Spain, I'm guessing an average of 2,000 odd for 2B games and 1,000 odd for 3rd division games.

Whats the avaerage attendance to Mexican league games?

Marca healine over report of yesterdays game -

"El Castellón toma el Carranza y la afición del Cádiz estalla"

It is fair to say that the loyal cadistas are not happy. 18,000 turned out to watch the team yesterday only to see them collapse against an potentially inferior Castellon side. In forums cadistas are blaming mainly the manager and president for the poor results of late. Although some are putting the underachievment at the door of the players.

Employing a former player as manager rarely pays of, and it is fair to say IMO, that Antonio Muñoz made a poor decision when he put Oli in charge back in June. Despite his cult hero status amongst cadistas things clearly aren't working at the moment, and his days could be numbered....watch this space.

    Xerez 17
    Murcia 17
    Sporting 15
    Salamanca 15
    Ciudad Murcia 13
    Albacete 13

Haven't updated the thread in a couple of weeks, not sure weather it is worth it due to the such small amounts that use it! Anyway, to put it into short, like last season it appears that a two horse race is opening up. Xerez and Murcia are the class of the field at the moment. Some tough teams below though. I still fancy Ciudad Murcia to string a suprise, whilst nthe three relegated clubs cannot be ignored.

The sacking of Oli was a little hasty IMO. We are just a five points off third! However, the defence is clearly not up to much. Only Vecindario have conceded more.

It seems that Gonzalez is the main choice at this stage but we will wait and see.....

Still alot to work with whoever comes in. A few wins and we are right back in the promotion picture.

The Murcia derby ended all square earlier. Therefore Xerez have regained their lead at the top on goal difference over Murcia while Ciudad lie in seventh. Salamanca and Valladolid looking threatening in third and fourth. I have seen Valladolid a couple of times this season and they look full of goals. A real bet for promotion IMO.

Yeh they seem to be back in another losing streak. As I said though, Valladolid are a very good side.

Gonzalez seems to have been confirmed then....a bit more experienced than Oli. Did very well to build up the side from which Esparrago took over and got promoted back a few seasons ago.

So, after 9 games who do you think are looking good for a place in next seasons primera? I think Xerez could yet fall away like last season, but Murcia seem a very good bet at this point. Ciudad also look threatening as I predicted. As do Albacete and Valladolid. Could we see a suprise promotion in Salamanca?

I liked Salamanca alot when i watched them play last week, they look like a good candidate along with Xerez & Murcia. Not so sure about Albacete, Valladolid are also an option.
What about Sporting ? You dont think they could be a long shot option ? (im not saying that cos they beat you guys) And Cadiz could come up, depending how well Gonzalez does and if Lobos doesnt get injured again.

I agree that any of the three relegated sides are still in with a shout, especially Cadiz who IMO, have the best squad. Lobos is they key as you say, which is a shame, I don't like us to be a one man team.

I am not sure about Sporting. They never seem to be able to maintain their good form and always seem to go down to lesser sides. If they can get some consistancy, by all means they are in with a shout. About ten years since they were in the primera wasn't it? About time they got promoted I suppose.

Xerez took the lead back from Murcia by two points after defeating Tenerife 2-0 in the Canaries. Murcia lost out at to the current suprise form team, Poli Ejido. They are now up to sixth! The top 2 coming under increasing pressure from the chasing pack. Both Valladolid and Sporting won whilst Salamanca got a good away point at Elche. The three relegated teams are all within a point of each other in midtable, but vastly dropping away from the top 3 where they should be competing. At the bottom Vecindario look already down, Elche have alot of work to do, whilst there are a large amount of teams all around the other two spots, currently occupied by Castellon and Las Palmas.

THE game of the segunda season so far approaching then as Murcia travel south to the Chapin Stadium looking to tip Xerez off the top of the table. I fancy them to do it ok.

Back east in Murcia there is another very important game as Ciudad take on los amarillos in a crucial game for the promotion prospects of both sides. Salamanca also take on Albacete in another rimportant game. A great weekend of segunda football!

The big match ended 1-1, with Xerez maintaining their lead at the top, however Murcia slip to fourth after victories for Valladolid and Salamanca. Yordi had given the Andalucians the lead, only to be equalised by a penalty Samuel, to avoid the Murcians falling away. Fellow promotions challengers Sporting got a win against Hercules whilst Poli Ejido's great run ended at home to Almeria, who now look good in seventh. Goitom scored a last minute goal against Cadiz to keep Ciudad Murcia in touch with the leaders. The away side had taken the lead through De Paula. After a tricky start Real Madrid B are picking up, Vecindario look adrift at the bottom whilst Elche got an important home win in against mid table Malaga.

Latest score in Murcia, 4-1 to Valladolid!

Amazing performance from Pucela, all be it against 10 men!

They are really putting the pressure on Xerez now, whereas Murcia look to have lost all the form of a few weeks ago!

Salamanca take on Malaga later, big gmae, they can go up top third with a win, the top three will all be level on points however! The segunda is hotting up!
