    Last season SAF said that if Man Utd can score 90 goals in the league then they will win the Premiership.

    He was right. Man Utd didn't quite get 90 goals but they were close with 83 goals in the league which was enough to make them Premiership Champions 2006/07.

    Breakdown of the 83 goals scored by Man Utd:
    Defenders = 10
    Midfielders = 40
    Strikers = 30
    Owen Goals = 3

    I have worked out that for a team to.....
    Win the Premiership = 72+ goals
    Finish 4th in the league = 60+ goals
    Finish 6th in the league = 50+ goals

    But if you have a $h!t defence then it doesn't matter how many goals you score.

    You can find out here how many goals your team scored last season:
    http://home.skysports.com/leaguetable.aspx?cpid=8&clid=1&s=0607

    What would be a realistic goal target for your team next season?

    Now i would like you to predict how many goals you think your team will score next season.

    Defenders = ?
    Midfielders = ?
    Strikers = ?

    If you want, you can go into more detail by listing individual players.

    We scored 57 last season

    This season I hope

    Defenders: 6 (Scored by Agger and Aurellio probably, can't see Carragher or Finnan getting too many!)

    Midfielders: 30 (Gerrard hopefully will have a better scoring year, Alonso may chip in, and then of course Ryan Babel/Kewell might get a few as well as Pennant or Benayoun)

    Strikers: 43 Hopefully something like: Kuyt - 15, Torres -12, Crouch - 10, Voronin - 6

    total 79 goals

    More goals. With our style of play we should be reaching 70 goals a season. We have lost Henry but Eduardo has the potential to be prolific. Last season we were obviously handicapped by having our two main goalscorers both missing more than half the league season. If we avoid such injury problems we should score more. Last year we were also very wasteful in front of goal which hopefully will be improved upon.

    As a breakdown I would expect our defence and midfield to score roughly the same number and for our strikers to get more between them. Gilberto won't score as many, but I expect the likes of Rosicky and Fabregas to get a couple more to make up for this.

    We scored 63.

    We're not particularly strong at set pieces either.

    So going through here are some rough targets that I hope from our players:

    RVP - 17
    Adebayor - 10
    Eduardo - 10
    Bendtner - 5
    Walcott - 4
    Cesc - 5
    Rosicky - 5
    Hleb - 1
    Gilberto - 6 (penalty taker)
    Diaby/Denilson - 3 between them
    Toure - 2
    Gallas - 2
    Sagna/Eboue/Clichy - 3

    Total: 73

    Defenders: 7
    Midfielders: 20
    Forwards: 46

    Although i think Eduardo may score more than 10 but we shall see how many matches he actually starts.

    I was assuming him and Adebyor to be rotated a bit +its his first season so he'll need to adjust a bit. His target is conservative whereas RVP's may be a bit ambitious.

    I think in total we'll get around 70-75 goals though

    Probably 60 odd. 5 or 6 from the defenders, both Taylor and Sam like set pieces so he should get a few. 15 from the midfielders, Barton and N'Zogbia will get around 5 each and Milner, Emre, and Solano will pick up a couple each. And we could get 35-40 from the strikers. Ale

    You'll get more from the strikers.
    Viduka 15
    Martins 15
    Owen 15

    total, at least 45. I expect Viduka to be round the 18 goal mark with better service than with the smog and Owen will poach a couple as long as he's fit.

    That's far too ambitious.

    I think Viduka will get around 12 goals again.

    Owen's tally depends largely on his fitnees - if he stays fit I think about 17, if not then he could only get 5 or so,

    Martins I think will get 12-15

    I reckon Martins will get about 10, i think he might find himself playing wide left quite a bit to accomodate the other two. Viduka will get about 15 and Owen will get about 12. But then there's Ameobi who will get around 5.

    So you're not disagreeing. Should Owen stay fit for he majority he'll score 15, Viduka 13-16 goals and Martins 12-15.

    I don't even think its a best case scenario. If When Owen gets injured, the oether two (especially Martins) will shift into a more attacking role and score the necessary goals. Viduka is also a deceptively good finisher. People only remember when he's been lazy.

    The strikers will score between 40-53 goals

    I just think Kimbo's 35-40 mark was really conservative.

    Owen WILL get injured DD Wink

    That's why I've raised the totals for Martins and Viduka - they'll be Newcastle's regular strike force next season.

    Barton should get about 5-7.
    Duff/N'zogbia could also get about 5, Milner could also get 5.

    Its tough to say with Newcastle though because no ones really sure what the lineup will be - will they play 4-4-2? will they play 4-5-1/4-3-3 - who knows

    Yes...

    Ashton is back...Bellamy will score a fair amount.

    Mark Noble, Julien Faubert and Luis Boa Morte are always likely to chip in.

    All depends on whether Sheva is firing next season. If he is, we have 2 strikers who can hit the 25-30 mark and another 2 strikers who will hit around 15 hopefully.

    In all comps:

    Defence: 8-10 (About 5 of those will be from Terry, the rest won't get many).
    Central Midfielders: 35-40 (Lampard will get around 20, Essien, Mikel, and Sidwell will get around 3-5 each, Ballack maybe 5-10)
    Wingers: 15-20 (Robben should get about 7, Joe Cole 3-5, SWP a couple and Malouda around 5)
    Strikers: 55-60 (Drogba to hit 25, Sheva, Pizarro and Kalou will get around 10-15 each)

    Total: Between 113-130

    In the Prem: About 70, Drogba top scoring with 20.

    Think it all depends where Rooney plays next season. If he plays as a striker, he'll probably break the 20 goal mark. However, if he plays as a number '10', he'll score fewer but will be much more effective to the team imo.

    Midfielders - 20/30 ( depends on what type of season Nolan has)
    Strikers 20 ( 15 for Anelka, 5 for Diouf and Davies

    Ronaldo could get between 3-5 more if he is taking the pens again.

    I would expect Tevez to get a few goals from freekicks.

    With the signing of Hargreaves, Carrick will get forward more IMO, so Carrick could get around 4/5 goals.

    Nani, if he is given games, could get atleast 4 i think.

    Yeah I didn't give many to Anderson and Nani as I'm not sure what playing time they will get. They may get more goals in the domestic cup games.

    I think the players who will most benifit from the new formation will be Rooney and Scholes. Scholes playing from the hole should get over 10 in all competition (6 - 8 in the league) and guessing that Rooney will lead the line he should score more.

    I'm not sure about this part, i mean Routledge will get fook all, same with Taarbat probably, Lennon will only get a few so really you're relting on Boateng to be a big scorer.
