    We're not particularly strong at set pieces either.
    This is one aspect of our game that has greatly improved this season. Over the last few years our set pieces were awful. In most games during the 2005/2006 season it was pointless getting a corner as we would never attack it properly.

    Bendtner scored from a corner yesterday and Gallas the week before. I would love to see how many points this has added to our game this season.

    ------------------P--W D L GF GA
    Chelsea 06-07 18 13 3 2 30 11
    Chelsea 07-08 18 11 4 3 25 10

    So despite this 'free flowing fast attacking football' under Grant & Ten Cate, we're actually doing worse off in every department (other than goals conceded) than Jose 'boring' Mourinho. It was around this time last year we lost Terry and the goals started to leak in, so if I do a comparison in 10 matches time, I'm sure the 07-08 team will be worse off on goals against too. Ale

    Desi Jatt wrote:Last season SAF said that if Man Utd can score 90 goals in the league then they will win the Premiership.

    He was right. Man Utd didn't quite get 90 goals but they were close with 83 goals in the league which was enough to make them Premiership Champions 2006/07.

    Breakdown of the 83 goals scored by Man Utd:
    Defenders = 10
    Midfielders = 23
    Ronaldo FC = 17
    Strikers = 30
    Own Goals = 3

    Number of different goal scorers = 17

    So far this season, 64 goals scored:
    Defenders = 4
    Midfielders = 9
    Ronaldo FC = 25
    Strikers = 24
    Own Goals = 2

    Number of different goal scorers = 13

    So far this season:

    This season I hope

    Defenders: 6 (Scored by Agger and Aurellio probably, can't see Carragher or Finnan getting too many!)

    Midfielders: 30 (Gerrard hopefully will have a better scoring year, Alonso may chip in, and then of course Ryan Babel/Kewell might get a few as well as Pennant or Benayoun)

    Strikers: 43 Hopefully something like: Kuyt - 15, Torres -12, Crouch - 10, Voronin - 6

    total 79 goals

    Crouching Tiger wrote:Finnan - 0
    Carragher - 0
    Agger - 2
    Riise - 3
    Arbeloa - 1
    Aurelio - 1

    Gerrard - 10
    Alonso - 3
    Mascherano - 2
    Kewell - 3
    Pennant - 1
    Babel - 3
    Benayoun - 3

    Crouch - 14
    Torres - 13
    Kuyt - 14
    Voronin - 7

    80ish.

    Sorry, but you've scored 57 in each of the past two seasons, and 52 in the season before that. Rafa isn't attacking enough to get 80+ goals. <Ale>

    You're just as guilty. You scored 38 last year and you think you'll score 60 odd this term. It aint gonna happen. Newcastle I reckon to get around the 50 mark.

    Liverpool = 55 goals

    Kimbo wrote:Probably 60 odd. 5 or 6 from the defenders, both Taylor and Sam like set pieces so he should get a few. 15 from the midfielders, Barton and N'Zogbia will get around 5 each and Milner, Emre, and Solano will pick up a couple each. And we could get 35-40 from the strikers. Ale

    Newcastle = 33 goals

    King/Dawson/Kaboul/Huddlestone/Zokora = 8 between them.

    This team can top 70 goals next year ok

    In the league?

    It says LEAGUE ONLY, so id take a punt on it being just the league Very Happy

    It was more of a "no way will they score that amount, you must have got it wrong" thing which went bad Smile

    70 goals + my arse. They ain't that good.

    Edit: Liverpool will not pass 75 goals and I'd put some betting points on it in the predictions thread If anyone wants to take the bet.

    Kimbo wrote:If Berbatov scores 16 league gaols i'll eat my face! Bent will get more than 14 though. ok

    Tottenham = 60 goals
    Berbatov = 13
