Haven't got round to my verdict on last night's game so will do now.
I thought Toulouse were really poor last night, I don't know if they are that poor normally, they are in the top flight and beat Lyon earlier this season (be it with one more man on the pitch) so they aren't mugs really, I thought away from home we found it difficult to break them down at times, maybe it was partly due to the heat in France.
Last night we absolutely steamrolled them from start to finish, I have never seen such a convincing European performance from Liverpool besides maybe when we thrashed Leverkusen over two games a few years back or so.
The new boys certainly did themselves justice I thought, it was a game for a few of the 'back ups' to Impress and they did just that, Leto I thought did ok, he wasn't phenomenal or anything but he must of been a bit nervous, he didn't make any mistakes though and looked fairly comfortable on that left wing, he's quite pacy but perhaps a little too lightweight at this stage in his career, he looks one for the future.
Benayoun really really impressed me, his determination was outstanding, he was quick to every ball, always looked to create chances and generally was a nightmare for the Toulouse defenders to handle, I think his MOTM performace may just have earnt himself a place in the team on Saturday, maybe on the left of midfield.
Babel also impressed me when he came on, it has to be said he's looked a lot better coming on as a sub than starting games so far, I thought he was poor against Sunderland, he went missing almost during the game and didn't do a lot, but last night he looked lively again, similarly to when he came on against Chelsea 2 weeks ago, I like his touch on the ball, he's very confident with the ball at his feet and isn't afraid to shoot either which is always good to see in a young player.
I thought the central midfield pairing of Sissoko and Masch worked a treat last night, I'm not a fan of them normally playing together but I don't think the Toulouse attack had a chance in hell trying to get past those two last night, the problem Rafa now has is which one of them gets the nod in the team? or will he even leave both of them out when Gerrard returns? it's a tough decision.
Arbeloa impressed me again, I'm beginning to really like this lad, he's quite reliable and is very versatile as well, he can play anywhere in the defence which is great to have, particularly at a time when we are short of defensive options with a few injuries, he's certainly a great addition to the squad.
We should have scored more really, Kuyt was frustrating yet again as was Crouch at times but in the end they did score and we got through.
I'm really optimistic this season, everything looks in place.
