Torres playing and scoring a hat trick vindicates his selection. People are quick to assume that Birmingham and Portsmouth would have been defeated had Torres started. These sort of assumption are ridiculous. Torres cannot be expected to start 60 or so games this season.

The foundations are being set so that if as expected we are competing at the end of the season, Torres will be fresh enough to have a significant impact.

We're far from crisis.

Yep, he rests Torres for two league games in a row and then plays him in the Carling cup. He then comes out with "He needs to be rested for the end of the season". Now, it's pretty obvious that 3 points at the end of the season is the same as 3 points at the beginning, so why the rest for a 20 odd year old striker in his prime? It's pretty simple - for the cup games, which are the opposite in that they are more important at the end.

If you can't see the wood for the trees it's not my fault. Personally I think it's quite plain.
