Just got back from our game. Bolton made it tough but were the least ambitious team I've seen for a long time. I honestly don't think they managed a single effort all game. Ref was poor (inevitably) and allowed Bolton to break the game up in the first half, they got away with lots of late tackles and poor challenges and it stopped any flow to the game. We were very lethagic as well. Second half was better. Once Eboue went off we improved a lot. Walcott was electric, he made some terrific runs and was very dangerous. Our finishing was dreadful, so many good chances sent high and wide. Great strike by Kolo to open the scoring. A deserved win but a tough one.

On Liverpool's game, I thought Gerrard's penalty was probably a fair decision. Hibbert did tug at his shirt. Gerrard still went down extremely easily though. It's so hypocritical that Torres came out with a statement a while back saying that Gerrard told him diving is not tolerated in England, but it was so obvious that as soon as he got near the box he was going down. It was the sort of decision that is infuriating when other teams get them, but if Arsenal had a similar appeal I would want to get that decision and I'm sure most people would say it was a foul if it happened on their player. Ref was a disgrace, he was never going to give Everton decisions today and it cost them.

BTW Deco's got nothing on Gerrard.. dive outside the box and then talking to the ref afterwards to get the poor Everton player sent off.. English sportsmanship Evil or Very Mad

does anyone actually really believe he dived or is this just all agenda bullshit ???

He dived in the same way that Deco or Dinho does.. meaning that it is a 50-50 decision. Not really a clear foul but he decided to go down to try to get the ref to give him a freekick..

Just pointed it out, because we are constantly blamed for diving and cheating so it cracks me up when one of these great English sportsmen do exactly the same thing.. If it had been a Barcelona player I wouldn't have minded.. it is all part of the game.

It is totally different though and you know it

there are a guaranteed 5-10 dives in every barca game

here we have a decision which isn't even close to a dive and people say this evens up the criticism spanish teams get

ridiculous but now is not the time to go into detail about it

COTR, you didn't understand Oleguer's point. He was trying to point out the difference between a blatant dive, and a player going down to ensure he gets just reward for the foul the defender committed, which otherwise wouldn't be called out. Samba explains it better later on:

    Juego de la Okkas wrote:
Diving and going down easily are two different things. In Spain if a player is out-muscled off the ball he will go down, whereas in England - due to the physical nature of the game - will try to stay up. The idea that diving or 'piscinazos' aren't condemned is BS.

Anyway, it doesn't matter because I think it was a fair decision, though possibly out of the box. Either way, it evens up the Chelsea decision.

Yet another brilliant win for us today against a well organised Brum side. They made life difficult for us (like they did Liverpool and U*d) and played some good stuff, it wasnt easy but we dug in and played some good stuff.

Elano is simply class i just cant get over how good he has been, he has become the heart beat of the team and if he can keep this form up then we are going ot be hard to beat, especially with our back 5 doing so well.

Played 6 won 6 at home scored 10 conceeded 2....you cant get much better than that. Now we go to Chelsea and the pressure is off, even if we lose then we will still have 22 points from 11 which is an amazing start. Plus our up coming home games are against the likes of Sunderland, Reading, Bolton and Blackburn so hopefully we can keep up this amazing run.

    IN SVEN WE TRUST !

Judging by that post-match interview, it's quite clear Benitez doesn't rate Gerrard as a central midfielder (along 3/4 of the nation). It'll be interesting to see what happens when Alonso comes back.

I thought his reasoning was odd. They needed some intelligence and ball retention at that period of the game and those are just not Gerrard's strengths. However, Sissoko was much, much worse.

Having just watched Football 1st, and then gone through this thread, I have this to say about Liverpool.

Gerrard = total c**t. He seems to have the refs in his pocket - bleedin' disgrace.

    Fans = Giro-collecting, "woe is me" c**ts.

You've had 3 games where you've got lucky from the Ref since the Malouda/Chelsea incident. I think it's time to stop moaning that one Wink

The huge problem with English refs is that they probably know the rules, but they clearly don't know the game. FFS! even the football "experts" are completely clueless about the game..."England have 7 or 8 world class players plus Rooney" FFS! lol!

"Benfica would be relegated if they were to play in the EPL" lol!

About FUCKING time Rafa realized that Gerrard is UTTER SHITE as a central midfielder. I'm sure Rafa knew it all along, but because of his "inspirational captain's" demands to play there, he gave him some games there. NEVER FUCKING THE LESS, Rafa said enough is enough and took him out substituting Mr. Central Midfielder himself with a player making his debut in the EPL.

Lucas not only did very well, he WON IT for Liverpool. The Reds looked 100 times better after Gerrard was removed. Rafa later said "You sometimes have to play these games with the brain and not with the heart" when asked why he took Gerrard out of the game. Rafa wants to win you know. lol! <Ale>

    Fans = Giro-collecting, "woe is me" c**ts.

You've had 3 games where you've got lucky from the Ref since the Malouda/Chelsea incident. I think it's time to stop moaning that one Wink

Here's to another 17 years of failing to knock ANYONE of their "Fuckin' Perch". Goodnight Ale

Most biased refereeing performance of the season. Clattenburg should be asked why he didn't sent Kuyt off. Much worse than Mikel's challenge. As for the penalties I suppose he realised that you get less grief when you give Liverpool decisions than when you give decisions against them. Well done Benitez and the Press your persecution of the ref after the Chelsea game has set the scene for the season. I doubt we'll see Clattenburg apologising to Everton supporters or being dropped to the Championship.

As I said in the Man Utd v Chelsea thread a while back, I thought the Mikel "lunge" was a straight red, but the only thing that pissed me off was the fact that referee's would not be consistent about it over the season (i.e. some players would only get yellow cards for it) as proven yesterday.

Also, JT got fined for trying to pull the referee's card away. Surely that's no worse than influencing the game, as we saw yesterday? Only Chelsea ever get charged with failing to control players though Rolling Eyes

Yes when Liverpool players headed over to the linesman screaming at him and had to be restrained by the referee nothing happened. Nothing will happen about yesterday's refereeing performance either. Mikel's lunge would generally only get a yellow but Kuyt's kung fu style challenge got Cantona 6 months a few years ago! Laugh

I shall be cheering on Finland like a Finnish patriot, when they play you in Portugal.

Anything to see you dirty, diving cheating bastards not in the finals.

A guy that supports England and Italy acusing other nations of cheating and diving.
Shock horror. What is the world comming to?
Should you not be chearing on Scotland then? After all, the cheating bastards may qualify after France, as long as they beat that world power that is Scotland
Are you sure you do not want to cheer as an Armenian patriot? We play them first? Laughing

Armenia are hopeless though...they did hold you to a draw in Armenia though Laughing. Finland will do to you, what they did to Poland.
