The knee problems are exactly the problem. The quality of the player isn't in question...he just can't play anymore despite still being on the books at Benfica.

I only saw Mantorras play for Angola at his best once... then the problems sarted. Basically, he has no carteldge left. That's pretty unreversable.

He's done in a footballing sense. I think the only reason Benfica keep him on is because they reailse they were at fault. Mantorras played a lot of matches when he shouldn't have been and that cost him. The club doctores really screwed him and he'll probably end up having severe trouble just being able to walk in the future.

Benfica burned a great potential...if only he had signed for 'his' Sporting.

He is the best supersub I have ever seen... week in week out he does this for Inter... he has been outscoring our regular starting strikers for a while now, even tho he plays half as much in minutes. It was Pekermans stupid tactics that lost the game to Germany, nothing else.

So if that is the defination, I would pick Julio Cruz as well. Honorable mention to Solskjaer. Cruz is like a "Solskjaer" who ends up outscoring the "RVN" and the "Rooney" of the team.

Look again at that part of the match when he played : he couldn't have done better for the Germans if he were wearing a white and black jersey.

Cruz had a poor game, but surely you have to agree that:

1. Taking Riquelme off was more stupid
2. Not playing Messi at all was more stupid
3. While we are at it, not taking Zanetti in the squad was more stupid
etc etc

btw, Cruz only came on in the 80th minute or something like that!!

I'm not agreeing.

Taking off a player without bringing on another would have been better than bringing Cruz. That's how much damage he did.

Yup, so he played like a normal half a match (45 minutes). That's an awful long time to play 10 against 12....

Yeah, it is too easy to blame Cruz for everything. Besides that was only one match(WC matches are really overrated), he has done well in the all the others he plays.

Solskjaer regularly did similar or at least matched them from when he arrived to his injuries around 2004.

Yeah, so he did. But Cruz seems set to do it for teh 3rd season running at Inter!! Its amazing.

Now Cruz is Inter's 3rd all time top scorer in europe. Not bad for a 4th/5th choice striker.

Solskjaer was also awesome. I could be biased in this one, but IMO Cruz edges it.

Suarez is on par with Figo and Cry Ronaldo.

The current Cruz doesn't get enough playing time to dive that many times, you're right on that account.

The Cruz I remember from Feyenoord (nicknamed the Submarine for obvious reasons) dived even more than Suarez/Figo does now
