Them Hammers couldn't even tickle Chelsea after that, and you all saw how Chelsea were all over West Ham as soon as Nobby left the game. Good one Curbs!

Chelsea deserved the win in the end, I think Mikel was really poor though, Chelsea are much more effective with SWP on

The goal was legitimate if you ask me. Both forward and defender were in the same line, and it must always go to the forward. Good 3 pts for your team all in all.

I too believe the goal was legitimate, attacker should get advantage, especially in this case where it was sooo close.

Football's a cruel game. Personally thought Chelsea played very poorly, mainly as a result of West Ham's tactics. Alex and Joe Cole were particularly poor (despite Cole's goal).

The only thing West Ham were guilty of was not creating enough good chances.

Nobby had two great chances.

Newcastle are playing football btw, crazy stuff.

Decent enough game but the ref gave every decision in chelsea's favour. It seems their moaning has paid off

Chelsea were far from top quality today but the hammers were like men possessed in first half, no way could they keep that tempo going. Chelsea only really started to play better when they got the goal. SWP did well. Sidwell is not good enough and should only play in CC or FA cup. Mikel is an accident waiting to happen which is a shame as the boy has a lot of talent. His chipped ball towards the end which put Kalou through was magic yet Kalou spacked it and took an air shot. Still a win is a win and it will do. Always difficult after CL to play a team who have had 4 more days rest.

A much improved Newcastle today. The 4-3-3, with Milner and Martins and with full backs, is looking much more balanced. And the usual problem when we have played a 4-3-3 so far this season - the lack of link up play between the midfield and attack - has been rectified a bit in the first half.

Smith, whilst not having the talent of Viduka and being less able to finish off chances, has played well so far. Hes genuinely caused the centre backs problems and his running has helped in terms of the above - in connecting the midfield and the forwards. He also has better positional sense when playing up front as opposed to playing in the midfield, he doesnt drift as much and his running is more effective.

I think Milner and particularly Martins have been very good. Martins has been making some very good runs off the ball and he created our best chance so far with a wonderful little flick up and over the defence, which Smith should have done much better with - he went for a spectacular volley when he should have just controlled the ball and finished. Both Milner and Martins have kept their positions well, moving both inside and outside.

As for the midfield, both Barton and Geremi have had perhaps their best games so far for us. Most importantly, theyre both keeping their positions on the left and right of the midfield respectively, and theyre supporting Smith and maintaining a position further forward than we have been playing. Barton started poorly but has progressed and played some nice balls towards the end of the half, whereas Geremi has been up and down - overall, like I say, his positional sense has been much better so far this game (and usually he looks like he hasnt a clue) though his deliveries have still been poor and there are times when the game dies a death around him, hes just so slow that he kills it. Butt has been our worst player, getting booked early on, misplacing a few passes, resorting to that terrible habit of his whereby, when in the opposition half, he simply flicks the ball on to nowhere as soon as he receives it.

The full backs, Beye then Carr and N'Zogbia on the left, have been fine - though Carr hit one notably bad cross. Faye was solid enough when on the pitch, though he does have his moments of madness where he gets overly hyped up, as in this half when he charged at Given and almost caused a mix up. Rozehnal to me looks like he has the potential to lead the back line, or at least to be part of a talented, communicative defence - hes been talking a lot, and he has a fantastic attacking impulse both in his own game and in encouraging others forward - hes constantly passing the ball and moving up the pitch and creating another option. That said, he and Given almost contrived to mess up at the end of the half - Given, to my mind, came out incorrectly, his pass was a bad one, then Rozehnal should have held the ball but ridiculously tried to turn Bentley whose attempted lob was, fortunately, a poor one.

In sum, a much better half. We look more balanced, the front line looks capable of causing problems, Martins is creating, the midfield are supporting, we are actually passing the ball and maintaining possession.

Bentley equalises from a great free kick, which is unfortunate because we have been comfortably the better team whilst Bentley has been rubbish up until now.
