So we can expect the table to look something like this by November 1st?

    Chelsea--------12
    W.Bremen-----07
    Barcelona------04
    L.Sofia----------00

    Whistle

Then after we 'assist' Bremen to victory on Matchday 5, it will look something like this:

    Chelsea--------12
    W.Bremen-----10
    Barcelona------07
    L.Sofia----------00

And then finally, Barcelona beat Bremen on matchday 6, but lose out on goal difference after their back to back 4-0 defeats against Chelsea, who thrash Levski 7-0 in the final game at the Bridge, with Cech scoring a penalty and 2 free kicks:

    Chelsea-------15 Q
    W.Bremen----10 Q
    Barcelona-----10 UEFA CUP
    L.Sofia---------00

You can do if you like mate, although I'll be at Stamford Bridge, (so will Cule I think), so there'll probably be just 1 or 2 Chelsea (Ballack, Hardrada) and Barcelona (you, oleguer, kas) fans on here, whilst rival fans may well watch their own matches if they're on.

    and excuses.

Although I think if we make a Chelsea-Barcelona thread, it should last for both ties (they're only 13 days apart anyway), rather than having a thread for each game.

    Agree.

A match like this deserves it's own thread, it's quickly becoming one of the European classics.

Interestingly, the aggregate score over the 2 seasons is 7-7 (5-4 and 2-3).

I think it's fair to say the first 3 games were all thrillers in their own manner (sendings off, come backs, manager disputes etc), whilst the last game was a bit of a dull one. I have a funny feeling we'll see 2 cracking games again, with both teams trying everything possible to beat each other.

7-7 is the chelsea's fan way of looking at it.

The barca fan and the real record currently stands at

2-1-1 to Barca, we have taken 7 points from the 4 games while chelsea has only taken 4 Points.

No, I think the average Chelsea fan looks at it this way:

2-0 Sendings off (100 minutes overall)

    Barcelona 0-1 Chelsea
    Chelsea 4-2 Barcelona
    Chelsea 0-0 Barcelona
    Barcelona 1-1 Chelsea

during the time of 11 v 11 Wink

Giving Chelsea 8 points, and Barcelona 2 Whistle Ale

Cule, just type in the URL, it's not hard to remember - just memorise the ephpbb part.

We can start a separate thread for both legs, though I won't be on during the match. But it'll definitely be needed for pre and post game discussion/mud hurling Smile

so sending offs don't count, hey? it's not Barça's fault your players can't control themselves?

Doesn't matter though, you count penalties that weren't as well, so why should we not count red cards that weren't?

I think, as long as we get 3 points from our last 3 games, we should qualify.

Not that I will take any of the games light-heartedly, I want to see if we can get the 18 points (unlikely, but still possible).

Luckily, I think last nights win leaves us all but qualified in the group of death (though I'm taking nothing for granted).

However, even if we lose our next 2 matches, and Barca and Bremen win their next 2 matches, I'll still be confident, as the group will look like this:

    Barca - 10
    Bremen - 10
    Chelsea - 9
    Levski - 0

And we should, with all due respect beat Levski at home on the final day, which would guarantee our qualification.

A Barca win would have been better for us last night. Now I guess we have to win all the remaining matches to reach the next round.

It's tough. I have a sneaky feeling that if we beat Barca in the Camp Nou, and therefore have qualified from the group, we may field a weaker side against you, if anything to help you guys get through the group and knock out Barca in the early stages. I'm sure that you're more than capable of beating us with our best 11 at home (our away record isn't impressive), but I just think Mourinho will do everything possible to try and make sure Barca don't qualify for the next round.

Are you pleased with your performance against Levski?

I just thought about it and it's clear we have to win away in Barcelona whatever happens, which is of course an almost impossible mission for us. But even if Barca would win the next two matches while we on the other side win away in Sofia but lose against you guys at home, we would still only have 3 point less than Barca before the last match. So if we would win in Barcelona then, which is a must anyway, we and Barca both have 10 points and Barca would be out then because we have won the "direct comparison". Or is it the goal difference which counts when two teams have same amount of points in the end?

S4P wrote:What do you think about your chances in Barcelona
re you pleased with your performance against Levski?
As I said above it's very unlikely to win for us away in Barcelona, but I think we have a chance, because with Mertesacker our defence is much better this year. He and Naldo fit together perfectly. Of course we can't allow any injuries...

Our performance against Levski was okay. I think we were the clearly better team for almost the whole match, but we did need a lot of work (and some luck) to win in the end and it was hardly entertaining to watch. If we play like that against you guys or Barcelona we have no chance though...
