Inter now needed four goals to qualify in 25 minutes with a man down. To make matters worse, there was a touchline row in which Luis Figo was asked to come on as a substitute, but refused to get off the bench. After a recent argument with Vieira, this is another sign of dissent within the ranks.

Missed from close range after Cambiasso error by kicking it straight at Cesar and then a diabolical 1st touch at the end of the 1st half when he could have gone clean through.
Still - he sprung into life after the red card.
He was poor in the 1st game and poor in this one until the ref's cameo.
1st Juve and now Inter - you lot just can't win a two-legged game v Eyeties without assistance from the officials.
Cling onto your excuses Pierre because it's all you have got mate
That torres goal must have felt like a dagger you to your heart. You can't even use the 'away' or 'big team' excuses anymore.
Those two refereeing decisions did Inter's players irreparable harm

Liverpool are just not as good as the rest thats the reason for these odds. Inter lost to Valencia last year, Liverpool this year, maybe next year they will lose to PSV

Pool were playing too deep and he was left upfront alone to battle it out with almost the entire inter defence + they hardly played decent balls to him. still i remember him skinning chivu( i think) in the 1st minute and won a corner, combined few times with gerrard( one clever dummy stands out) and nearly scored when cambiasso messed up in his area. Overall a good game from him.

Didn't you watch the game? If you didn't, Rafa put Gerrard just in front of two central midfielders or floating behind the striker whichever way you want to see that. In fact it's been a few matches that Rafa finally removed the garbage from central midfield, using any two central midfielders there from Mascherano, Lucas, and Xabi Alonso.
I'm surprised it took Rafa this long to take the garbage out and sort his central midfield. Had he done that since the beginning of the season, Liverpool would be challenging for the league title.

About time Rafa sorted his team out. It wasn't his rotation system, it wasn't the owners bitching, Rafa bitching with the owners, it wasn't DIC takeover....it was Gerrard playing in central midfield that fucked Liverpool league title challenge. Good to know that Rafa FINALLY figured that one out. NOW, I'm definitely going after my coaching license, Rafa ain't got nothing on me. I can sort Liverpool out way before Rafa.

Oh come on. He had no way of cutting it towards the middle of the box or passing it, so the only chance he had was trying to hit it over Cesar or just smash it at him and get a corner/rebound chance.

Re: Inter vs Liverpool discussion thread!!
Good solid display from Liverpool, Inter had to take that early chance from Cruz to get anything from the tie but once that sailed past the post they were never going to go through. I don't think they would have scored even without the sending off, we should of had a goal maybe even earlier, great finish from Torres and it's job done.
Next round I want to avoid Arsenal or United, would take the rest.

We have two world class players in the team. One is gerrard and the other is torres. Now rafa has found a formation to allow gerrard and torres to link together brilliantly. With gerrard in the middle you are restricting one of your world class players to defensive duties and losing out because of this. This is the reason we were not doing as well. It was not a direct result of gerrard being in the middle but it was a direct result of losing gerrard's skills higher up the pitch

They will rape Inter's reserve defence on the counter, leaving COTR with about 5 years worth of "Torres can score in big games" amunition

Tell me something I don't know COTR! I have said for three years plus (Pierre can vouch for me on this, probably LRD too) that Gerrard's best position was floating behind the forward AWAY from central midfield BECAUSE he doesn't have the BRAINS to dictate midfield play. Gerrard's better reacting to the play rather than THINK about what to do. It's got nothing to do with Torres. You can even put CROUCH up front AND Gerrard will do much better floating behind CROUCH than asking Mr inspirational captain to THINK in central midfield.
YOU used to say Gerrard is at his best playing in central midfield. Some of you don't know the game I'm telling you. You think you know it though.

Inter - excuse is obvious in that he couldn't do anything against 11.
Marseille - excellent strike but they are exactly teh sort of team that you would dismiss out of hand had it been anyone else.
To be fair Marseilles and Porto were in teh group phases and these things are so routine for the big clubs from Spain, Italy and England that they can't fail to qualify.
Chelsea - Ben Haim gave it to him, but hey - its not often you see jews giving things away so I won't get too worked up.

Re: Inter vs Liverpool discussion thread!!
Ok, Inter got a man sent off in both of the legs and it may have been a little harsh...but still, it's another comprehensive and convincing European display from Benitez' Liverpool. We were always comfortable, and we hardly had to step up in quality to beat Inter - they were pretty Cr@p over the two legs.
To all the haters, like cockface Murray, HAH. We're taking Europe by storm again...we're fricking unstoppable. Tactically, Benitez absolutely owns this competition. You can call it luck, blame it on the ref, but even the Inter fans knew we deserved to progress.
You might not like to accept it, but we are awesome and can beat anyone, other than the almighty Barnsley of course.
