Fister is a genuis, no doubt. And he doesn't come across at all like an insane Nazi war criminal, which is always a bonus.

Some of his photography is breathtaking.

his rant about the Cameroon hotel was hilarious. I tried to find it on youtube but couldn't.

He never coached in Germany, just blagged his way in to a bunch of jobs in African football, presumably having beneftted (like so many Germans) from Apartheid
His training methods are interesting, but he's certainly got Cameroon's defence well organised.

He doesn't look like a lunatic.

the only problem otto is that managing an African team means you have reached the bottom of the barrel for career options

See old berti as the perfect example

I Seriously doubt the manager makes even the slightest bit of difference to an African team. The players just seem to run around wherever they want

What a complete load of bollocks? Nigeria had never failed to reach the semi finals since 1988. Only Berti managed to regress them to that. Even his predecessor Augustine Eguavoen managed it in 2006 with less support than Berti got from the Nigerian FA. Cut the bullshit excuses Otto. Berti's limitations were exposed for all to see here. Your buddy in Togo aside the Nigerians here are not impressed with Berti or his excuses. He is the least successful coach in Nigerian history for 20 years. The word is he will be sacked, but has a clause in his contract meaning he gets thirty days notice of the contract being terminated.

Otto is saying that Vogts was suicidal in going PUBLIC with his complaints about the Nigerian FA

Pfister believes this ALWAYS backfires; and frankly, Bertie paid the price for being too frank

he also says that in Africa you HAVE to be tolerant when it comes to incompetence and inefficiency

moaning about it , will get you nowhere

if you don't understand this, you should not sign for the adventure

IMHO Vogts fell flat on his face with his too earnest German manner

he never got the chaotic Africans and in turn did not reach them

Stielike spoke French with Drogba and Co and consequently they quickly called him an "Ivorian"

Vogts should stick to working in Germany

Berti Vogts fell flat on his face because of his arrogance and lack of knowledge of African football and Nigerian football. Pfister travelled to see the Camerounian players he called up play. Vogts didn't. Vogts has set ideas that are totally out of date and compounded his errors by not getting to know Nigerian football. The Nigerian FA are likely to be hammered over his appointment. It was a complete disaster and was obviously going to be that for reasons even Pfister acknowledged. It had nothing to do with German forthrightness and everything to do with Vogts' limitations as a coach and lack of knowledge of African football, let alone Nigerian football. Also the Nigerian FA completely fucked up . The word here isn't that Vogts should be sacked. That's already a given, it is who is responsible for appointing him in the first place and why was he was appointed. Nigerians want heads to roll in the FA.

Pfister learned from a great African coach the legendary Charles (CK) Gyamfi. Look him up. It served Pfister well. Vogts didn't. He came an imposed his flawed philosophy and it was disastrous. Vogts will be sacked because he was a fucking disaster in Nigeria, not because of criticism he made of the Nigerian FA. Stop the bullshit excuses. Berti Vogts' tenure in Nigeria has exposed his limitations once and for all. There are no excuses for the dire performance of Nigeria's team. The buck stops with Berti and the Nigerian FA.

Read a very intersting article that the reason Vogts hasn't already been sacked is his salary is not being paid by the Nigerian FA, but by a phone company who I assume are some kind of sponsors. Vogts' payout, if he's sacked before the 2010 World Cup, is reportedly 1.5 million dollars...hence the decision is being delayed because it's this company that has to decide, not the Nigerian FA.

Decision will be taken out of their hands. Head of Nigerian FA is likely to be sacked, possibly whole board. Vogts will be sacked as there is no way he will be trusted with Nigeria's future.

    EMP

you are partially right and partially totally wrong

Vogts was not a success in Nigeria because he is too GERMAN and demands things to go his way

he has very little flexibility and probably thought imposing his own style and professionalism was more important than adapting to chaotic and unsuccessful African ways of doing business

    ie

    a cultural misunderstanding

however, you are WAY OUT LINE disparaging Berti's ability as a coach or understanding of the game

Alex Ferguson knows his football alright

but outside Britain he would be a total flop

as always Pfister gives the best explanation for Berti's lack of success

    http://www.spiegel.de/sport/fussball/0,1518,533882,00.html

    (in German)

incidentally, Pfister is my new ALL-TIME-HERO

    brutally honest and spot on

he just shakes his head at those GERMANS who were celebrating a 3rd place at their HOME-WORLD-CUP

implying that Klinsi was a total flop

Word here is Adidas made sure that Nigeria had everything that they needed for training - i.e. plenty of balls training facilities etc. Also Nigerian media say Vogts denies saying the criticism of Nigerian organisation. By the way even Stefan Freund criticised Vogts saying he just doesn't listen.

And Vogts does not know football outside of Germany. He chose to work outside of Germany. If he is so great why wasn't he empoloyed in Germany after 1998. Don't forget when he took over as German coach he inherited a World Cup winning team.

Vogts has failed abroad because of his own limitations as a coach. Even Pfister says that you have to understand and know African football. He says it was a crazy appointment. You cannot impose outdated ideas in a new continent with no idea how things work. It is not entirely Vogts' fault as the Nigerians should never have appointed him. And regarding Fergusson we will never know if he would have been great elsewhere. Fact is he is so good at Manchester United that he had no need to leave. That doesn't apply to Berti whose success came from a great squad that he inherited. Remind me again what success did he have in the World Cup as a coach?

As I said before look up your new hero's hero. It is Charles (CK) Gyamfi of Ghana. The most successful coach in ACN history. Pfister says that he was lucky to be able to learn from the best Gyamfi - an African legend! Pfister took time to learn and adapt to African football. Vogts didn't and deserves every bit of criticism he is getting.
